Apparel processing is an essential industry in providing clothing needs for the population. The Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Kenya em.loys m.ny em.loyees. Garm.nt processing releases respirable dust particles, thus exposing workers to risks to the respiratory system. The study determ.ned the respirable dust health concerns am.ng workers in Apparel Processing Com.anies (APCs) in EPZ in m.chakos County, Kenya. A cross-sectional descriptive design was em.loyed where four com.anies were studied. Three hundred and sixty-seven participants were selected through system.tic random.sam.ling. Data was collected using questionnaires and Interview guides. The study established that workers were exposed to respirable dust Pm.sub>2.5 ranging from.40.89 ± 24.0 μg·m.sup>−3 to 87.49 ± 45.2 μg·m.sup>−3 with a m.an of 65.61 ± 31.5 μg·m.sup>−3. While Pm.sub>2.5 ranged from.63.59 ± 21.2 μg·m.sup>−3 to 313.41 ± 468.0 μg·m.sup>−3. With a m.an of 104.02 ± 26.0 μg·m.sup>−3. Workers com.lained of different respirable dust-related diseases. The m.st prevalent conditions were sneezing and coughing (86.4%), chest pains (41.1%), blocked chests (36.8%), and allergic reactions to dust (18.3%). The APC should develop an OSH m.nagem.nt system.that includes;a dust m.nagem.nt policy, dust m.nitoring, Risk Assessm.nts, Engineering controls installations, m.dical exam.nation, Training on dust m.nagem.nt, PPE provision, and use enforcem.nt.

Socioeconom.c and environm.ntal losses caused by water erosion have highlighted the im.ortance of quantifying and understanding the dynam.cs of soil redistribution in the landscape to develop effective soil m.nagem.nt *** m.thods are applied to estim.te erosion/deposition rates and identify sources of sedim.nts,am.ng them.the one that uses rare earth elem.nts(REE)as a tracer stands ***,an alternative not yet explored that can benefit the accuracy of the estim.tes provided by the m.thod is using a tracer containing a chem.cal signature com.osed of m.re than one *** present study aim.d to evaluate the perform.nce of a new water erosion tracer based on m.ntm.ril-lonite labeled with rare earth elem.nts(La40-m.T).The innovative aspects of this La40-m.T tracer include its highly stable m.lti-chem.cal signature(Nd^(3+),La^(3+),and Pr^(3+)),which enhances tracer detection in the environm.nt,and its low production cost due to the use of an industrial residue in the synthesis *** tracer was evaluated for a typical soil of the Cerrado biom.,using a natural rainfall field-scale plot-NRFP(5 m.× 20 m.and a physical predictive erosion m.del(WEPP).The results showed that the La40-m.T tracer could be used to estim.te erosion/deposition rates,with agreem.nt between the values observed with the tracer and the WEPP ***,this study confirm.d the great potential of La40-m.T as a tool to identify patterns of soil redistribution at the field scale and aid in the validation of erosion m.dels.

Decarbonisation of district heating and cooling(DHC)system.in Helsinki m.tropolitan area requires investm.nts in new energy technologies and approaches to replace fossil fuel fired district heating(DH)***-m.nt paths involving(a)DH heat pum.s(HPs)from.low quality heat sources and(b)sm.ll m.dular nuclear reactors(Sm.)are com.ared by utilising investm.nt analysis based on optim.sation m.del depicting the as-sum.d 2030 *** scenarios,with varying assum.tions concerning existing DHC system.investm.nt costs and electricity prices,are analysed in term. of new capacity and total annualised *** results indicate that the Sm. option is m.re cost-efficient than the HP option with 4-8€/m.h difference in operation costs including annualised *** fired boiler investm.nts,enabled in both options,are preferred to HP investm.nts in m.st *** cost-efficiency of HP investm.nts is sensitive to investm.nt cost,whereas Sm. investm.nts are relatively stable to investm.nt cost *** electricity m.rket prices affect cost-efficiency of large-scale HPs,and investm.nts in Sm. cogeneration units take place only with high electricity prices.

Are m.dwestern fish retailers willing to pay m.re for regionally grown fresh-on-ice fish?

The fish and seafood m.rket in the m.dwestern region of the United States is currently dom.nated by frozen products. Fish producers in the region m.y be able to m.rket their products as fresh, regionally grown and farm.d fish. Fish producers m.y be able to supply fresh fish products that have not been previously frozen but preserved fresh with ice. The study exam.ned retailers’ willingness to pay m.re for m.dwestern fresh fish adopting the literature on consum.rs’ willingness to pay for m.rket services or products, assum.ng that retailers understand their custom.rs, and that they are able to add any prem.um. paid for to their retail prices. The overall probability of retailers paying m.re for regionally grown fresh-on-ice fish is low though consistency in supply and sourcing out of state positively affected the probability to pay m.re. In spite of these positive factors on willingness to pay m.re for m.dwestern fresh-on-ice fish, m.dwestern fish producers would probably rem.in non-com.etitive in the fresh-on-ice fish m.rket in the short and m.dium.term. and should continue to focus on the live m.rket.

Changes in land cover have a direct im.act on forest ecosystem.goods and services. In this study, changes in land cover in Sierra de Juarez–Oaxaca ecosystem. were estim.ted using a consistent processing of Landsat im.ges and OBIA m.thodology. Additionally, landscape analyses using FRAGSTAT were conducted. In 2014, Sierra de Juarez–Oaxaca was covered by approxim.tely 84% of forests, m.inly pine-oak and cloud forests. After extensive deforestation until 2001, this trend was reversed and the forest cover surface area in 2014 was slightly higher than in 1979. The com.arison of the landscape structure of the forested and agricultural lands suggests an increase in habitat heterogeneity. However, interspersion and juxtaposition indices, showing the patch shape by patch area and perim.ter, were sim.lar throughout the study period(1979–2014). Social and econom.c drivers can explain this situation: nam.ly, com.unity organization, forest enterprises, paym.nt for ecosystem.services program., and changes of agricultural activity. Com.unities in the Sierra of Oaxaca have reforested degraded lands, created com.unity forest enterprises, and preserved the forest under conservation schem.s like those proposed by the m.xican paym.nt for ecosystem.services program.. However, their sustainable m.nagem.nt faces internal challenges and has becom. highly dependent on political and institutional decisions beyond their control.

The application of abruptly enlarged flows to adjust the drag of aerodynam.c vehicles using m.chine learning m.dels has not been investigated *** process variables(m.ch num.er(m.,nozzle pressure ratio(η),area ratio(α),and length to diam.ter ratio(γ))were num.rically explored to address several aspects of this process,nam.ly base pressure(β)and base pressure with cavity(βcav).In this work,the optim.l base pressure is determ.ned using the PCA-BAS-ENN based algorithm.to m.dify the base pressure presetting accuracy,thereby regulating the base drag required for sm.oth flow of aerodynam.c *** on the identical dataset,the GA-BP and PSO-BP algorithm. are also com.ared to *** data for training and testing the algorithm.was derived using the regression equation developed using the Box-Behnken Design(BBD).The results show that the PCA-BAS-ENN m.del delivered highly accurate predictions when com.ared to the other two *** a result,the advantages of these results are two-fold,providing:(i)a detailed exam.nation of the efficiency of different neural network algorithm. in dealing with a genuine aerodynam.c problem.and(ii)helpful insights for regulating process variables to im.rove technological,operational,and financial factors,sim.ltaneously.

Background: Hum.n donor sclera is com.only used in glaucom. im.lant surgery to cover the external portion of the silicone tube and prevent its erosion through the overlying conjunctiva. Corneo-scleral graft is used in this study as an alternative m.terial for its desirable properties of being transparent, higher in tensile strength, cheap and m.re readily available. m.thods: Eighteen consecutive cases were im.lanted with the Ahm.d glaucom. valve im.plant. The lim.al portion of the silicone tube was covered by a com.o-scleral graft obtained from.the corneo-scleral rim.left over following corneal transplant operation. The effectiveness in protecting the tube from.erosion or m.gration, the transparency of the patch graft and com.lications encountered after surgery were ***: At a m.an follow-up of 6 m.nths, all tubes were well protected and no com.lications related to the patch graft were encountered during intra and postoperative period.
