At least 10%of the elderly population above the age of 70 carry a condition termed clonal hematopoiesis indeterminate potential(CHIP)due to oligoclonal expansion of mutated hematopoietic stem *** CHIP is known to predispose patients to a higher risk of malignant blood disorders,the recent revelation of its association with higher morbidity and mortality of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and ischemic stroke is rather *** independent research groups published studies indicating that Tet2 mutated monocytes from mice modeling CHIP had a causal role in accelerating the growth of atherosclerotic lesions due to their pro-inflammation *** important discovery points to CHIP as a risk factor and raises the prospect of novel treatment to minimize the adverse cardio/cerebro-vascular events.

Infinite coordination polymers are recognized as excellent platform for *** motifs,which are one of the most attractive functional moieties,were incorporated into an infinite coordination polymer,to deliver a‘‘smart’’porous material that can response to external *** obtained dithienylethene-based infinite coordination polymers（named Cu-DTEDBA）share the advantages of both infinite coordination polymers（porosity and stability）and dithienylethene motifs（photochromism）.The physical and chemical properties of Cu-DTEDBA were characterized by FTIR,TEM,SEM,XRD,TgA,UV–vis,EDX and ***,the combination of dithienylethene and infinite coordination polymers gives rise to a synergistic effect,which induces functional behaviors of ammonia sensor *** open and closed forms of Cu-DTEDBA exhibit distinct colorimetric change upon exposure to gaseous ammonia,which is not observed in dithienylethene free molecules.

Robotic surgery for rectal cancer: A systematic review of current practice

AIM: To give a comprehensive review of current litera-ture on robotic rectal cancer ***: A systematic review of current literature via PubMed and Embase search engines was per-formed to identify relevant articles from january 2007 to november 2013. The keywords used were: "robotic surgery", "surgical robotics", "laparoscopic computer-assisted surgery", "colectomy" and "rectal resection". RESULTS: After the initial screen of 380 articles, 20 pa-pers were selected for review. A total of 1062 patients(male 64.0%) with a mean age of 61.1 years and body mass index of 24.9 kg/m2 were included in the *** of 1062 robotic-assisted operations, 831(78.2%) anterior and low anterior resections, 132(12.4%) in-tersphincteric resection with coloanal anastomosis, 98(9.3%) abdominoperineal resections and 1(0.1%) Hart-mann's operation were included in the review. Robotic rectal surgery was associated with longer operative time but with comparable oncological results and anastomotic leak rate when compared with laparoscopic rectal surgery. CONCLUSION: Robotic colorectal surgery has con-tinued to evolve to its current state with promising re-sults; feasible surgical option with low conversion rate and comparable short-term oncological results. The challenges faced with robotic surgery are for more high quality studies to justify its cost.

AIM: To compare quality of life (QoL) outcomes in Chinese patients after curative laparoscopic vs open surgery for rectal cancer. METHODS: Eligible Chinese patients with rectal cancer undergoing curative laparoscopic or open sphincterpreserving resection between July 2006 and July 2008 were enrolled in this prospective study. The QoL outcomes were assessed longitudinally using the validated Chinese versions of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C30 and QLQCR38 questionnaires before surgery and at 4, 8, and 12 mo after surgery. The QoL scores at the different time points were compared between the laparoscopic and open groups. A higher score on a functional scale indicated better functioning, whereas a higher score on a symptom scale indicated a higher degree of ***: Seventy-four patients (49 laparoscopic and 25 open) were enrolled. The two groups of patients were comparable in terms of sociodemographic data, types of surgery, tumor staging, and baseline mean QoL scores. There was no significant decrease from baseline in global QoL for the laparoscopic group at different time points, whereas the global QoL was worse compared to baseline beginning at 4 mo but returned to baseline by 12 mo for the open group (P = 0.019, Friedman test). Compared to the open group, the laparoscopic group had significantly better physical (89.9±1.4 vs 79.2±3.7, P = 0.016), role (85.0±3.4 vs 63.3±6.9, P = 0.005), and cognitive (73.5±3.4 vs 50.7±6.2, P = 0.002) functioning at 8 mo, fewer micturition problems at 4-8 mo (4 mo: 32.3±4.7 vs 54.7±7.1, P = 0.011; 8 mo: 22.8±4.0 vs 40.7±6.9, P = 0.020), and fewer male sexual problems from 8 mo onward (20.0±8.5 vs 76.7±14.5, P = 0.013). At 12 mo after surgery, no significant differences were observed in any functional or symptom scale between the two groups, with the exception of male sexual problems, which remained worse in the open group (29.2±11.3 vs 80.0±9.7, P = 0.026). Magnetic resonance studies of jets in a gas-solid fluidised bed

Magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） has been used to study the behaviour Of jets at the distributor of a 50 mm diameter fluidised bed of 0.5 mm diameter poppy seeds. Two perforated-plate distributors were examined, containing either 10 or 14 holes, each 1 mm diameter. Ultra-fast MR imaging was able to show the transient nature of the upper parts of the jets, where discrete bubbles are formed. Imaging in 3D showed that the central jets were the longest for flow rates below minimum fluidisation. Above minimum fluidisation, the outer jets, nearest the wall of the fluidised bed, arched inward towards the central axis. In this latter case, interpretation of the time-averaged 3D image required the use of ultra-fast MR imaging to identify the approximate height above the distributor at which discrete bubbles were formed. The apparently continuous void extending along the central axis above this height in the time-averaged 3D image was thus identified, using ultra-fast MR imaging, as representing the averaged paths of released bubbles. Time-averaged MR velocity mapping was also used to identify dead zones of stationary particles resting on the distributor between the jets. The dead zones could be observed when the superficial velocity of the gas approached minimum fluidisation, but they were smaller than those observed at lower gas superficial velocity. Comparable images of a single jet through 1.2 mm diameter poppy seeds from MRI and electrical capacitance volume tomography （ECVT） are also demonstrated.

AIM: To investigate the association between interleukin (IL)-10-1082 (g/A) promoter polymorphism and acute rejection (AR) in liver transplant (LT) recipients. METHODS: Two investigators independently searched the Medline, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Chinese Biomedicine Databases. Summary odds ratios (ORs) and 95% CIs for IL-10-1082 g/A polymorphism and AR were calculated in a fixed and a random-effects model as appropriate. RESULTS: This meta-analysis included seven casecontrol studies, which comprised 652 cases of LT recipients in which 241 cases developed AR and 411 cases did not develop AR. Overall, the variant A allele was not associated with AR risk when compared with the wild-type g allele (OR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.64-1.39). Moreover, similar results were observed when the AA genotype was compared with the Ag/gg genotype (OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 0.55-2.02). When stratifying for eth-nicity, no significant association was observed among either Caucasians or Asians. Because only one study was performed in Asian patients, the result of subgroup analysis by ethnicity would not be reliable for Asians. Limiting the analysis to the studies with controls in the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, the results were persistent and robust. No publication bias was found in the present study. CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggests that IL-10-1082 g/A polymorphism may be not associated with AR risk in LT recipients among Caucasians.

A copper matrix composite reinforced by β-lialSiO4 with negative thermal expansion coefficient was fabricated using vacuum hot-pressed sintering technique. The thermal expansion behavior of the composite was investigated, and the average residual stress in the matrix was analyzed by a simple model. The results indicate that the residual stress in the matrix affects the thermal expansion properties. After heat treatment, the coefficient of thermal expansion （CTE） of the composite decreases greatly. The CTE of the composite after thermal cycling between 50-350°C is the lowest.
