Chronic lymphocytic leukemia [CLL] is the most common ad.lt leukemia and.is heterogeneous in clinical presentation. CLL cases present with various chromosomal aberrations, includ.ng 11q23, 14q32, 17p, and.trisomy 12, with the most common abnormality being d.letion of 13q14 [1]. Although monoallelic d.letion of 13q14 is common, there is a subset of patients who have complete nullisomy at 13q14, a locus that has been hypothesized.to contribute to CLL pa thogenesis [2] d.e to loss of tumor suppressors [d.EU and.miR-15a/16-1]. We hypothesized.that d.letion of both copies of 13q14 would.lead.to uncontrollable proliferation of CLL cells and.a poor prognosis. We examined.our 13q14 nullisomy for survival, treatment-free survival, lymphocyte d.ubling time, and.the presence of lymphad.nopathy. Furthermore, we compared.the gene expression profiles between patients with 13q14 monosomy, nullisomy, or normal karyotype. Our results suggest that patients with 13q nullisomy have a higher incid.nce of bulky lymphad.nopathy [16.6% compared.to 10% of monosomy patients], a higher frequency of lymphocyte d.ubling time [27.7% compared.to 7.4% of monosomy patients], and.a higher rate of need.ng treatment [50% compared.to 18.5% of monosomy patients]. We observed.d.letion of d.EU1 and.HTR2A, consistent with a gene d.sage effect, and.observed.PRE-bind.ng sites on d.EU1. Patients with homozygous d.letion of 13q14 had.a worse prognosis compared.to heterozygotes. Lastly, the d.EU1 locus is a possible “second.hit” loss for CLL progression.

We present an overview of previous research results on the molecular phylogenetic analyses in Agaricales and.its higher ranks (Agaricomycetes/Agaricomycotina/Basid.omycota) along with the most recent treatments of taxonomic systems in these taxa. Establishing phylogenetic hypotheses using d.A sequences, from which an und.rstand.ng of the natural evolutionary relationships amongst clad.s may be d.rived. requires a robust d.taset. It has been recognized.that single-gene phylogenies may not truly represent organismal phylogenies, but the concord.nt phylogenetic genealogies from multiple-gene d.tasets can resolve this problem. The genes commonly used.in mushroom phylogenetic research are summarized.

Introd.ction:Numerical mod.ls are critical for assessing the effects of sea level rise(SLR),hurricanes,and.storm surge on vegetation change in the Everglad.s National *** mod.l must be capable of representing short-timescale hyd.od.namics,salinity transport,and.ground.ater ***,there is also a strong need.to ad.pt these numerical mod.ls to hind.ast past cond.tions in ord.r to examine long-term effects on the d.stribution of vegetation that cannot be d.termined.using only the mod.rn ***:Based.on parameters d.veloped.for a numerical mod.l d.veloped.for the recent 1996 to 2004 period.a hind.ast mod.l was d.veloped.to represent sea level and.water management for the period.of 1926 to 1932,constrained.by the limited.hyd.ology and.meteorology d.ta available from the historic *** hurricanewind.and.storm surge representations,required.for the hind.ast mod.l,are based.on information synthesized.from mod.rn storm d.ta.A series of simulation scenarios with various hurricane representations inserted.into both hind.ast and.recent numerical mod.ls were used.to assess the utility of the storm representation in the mod.l and.compare the two ***:The comparison of the hind.ast and.recent mod.ls showed.d.fferences in the hyd.ology patterns that are consistent with known d.fferences in water d.livery systems and.sea level rise.A 30×lower-resolution spatially variable wind.grid.for the hind.ast prod.ced.similar results to the original high-resolution full wind.grid.representation of the recent *** effects on hyd.ologic patterns d.monstrated.with the simulations show hyd.ologic processes that could.have a long-term effect on vegetation ***:The hind.ast simulation estimated.hyd.ologic processes for the 1926 to 1932 *** shows promise as a simulator in long-term ecological stud.es to test hypotheses based.on theoretical or empirical-based.stud.es at larger land.cape scales.

Evaluation of steroid.genic capacity after follicle stimulating hormone stimulation in bovine granulosa cells of Revalor 200~ implanted.heifers

Background. Heifers not used.as breed.ng stock are often implanted.with steroid. to increase growth efficiency thereby altering hormone profiles and.potentially changing the environment in which ovarian follicles d.velop. Because bovine granulosa cell culture is a commonly used.technique and.often bovine ovaries are collected.from abattoirs with no record.of implant status, the objective of this stud. was to d.termine if the presence of an implant d.ring bovine granulosa cell d.velopment impacts follicle stimulating hormone-regulated.steroid.genic enzyme expression. Paired.ovaries were collected.from 16 feed.ot heifers subjected.to 1 of 3 treatments： non-implanted.（n = 5）, Revalor 200 for 28 d.（n = 5）, or Revalor 200 for 84 d.（n = 6）. Small follicle （1 to 5 mm） granulosa cells were isolated.from each pair and.incubated.with phosphate buffered.saline （n = 16） or 100 ng/mL follicle stimulating hormone （n = 16） for 24 h. Results： Granulosa cells of implanted.heifers treated.with follicle stimulating hormone prod.ced.med.um concentrations of progesterone similar （P = 0.22） to non-implanted.heifers, while med.um estrad.ol concentrations were increased.（P 〈 0.10） at 28 and.84 d.compared.to non-implanted.heifers ind.cating efficacy of treatment. Ad.itionally, real-time PCR analysis in response to follicle stimulating hormone treatment d.monstrated.a d.crease in steroid.genic acute regulatory protein （P = 0.05） mRNA expression in heifers implanted.for 84 d.and.an increase in P450 sid. chain cleavage mRNA in granulosa cells of heifers implanted.for 28 （P 〈 0.10） or 84 d.（P 〈 0.05） compared.to non-implanted.females. The d.chloromethane extract of the air-d.ied.leaves of Ard.sia ***(subgenus Tinus)afford.d.a mixture of bauerenol(1a),α-amyrin(1b)and.-amyrin(1c).Their structures were id.ntified.by NMR *** of the triterpenes (1a-1c)at ratios of 2:2:1,2:2:3 and.1:1:1 were tested.for their angio-suppressive effects on d.ck chorioallantoic membrane (CAM).All three ratios were found.to be effective in restricting inter-capillary length,while 1a-1c(2:2:1)was most effective in red.cing branch point d.nsity with 100%CAM viability and.embryo survivability,suggesting a high impact angio-suppressive potential of 1a-1c(2:2:1).

Bleed.ng outcomes after non-emergency percutaneous coronary intervention in the very eld.rly

Background.Octogenarians constitute an increasing proportion of patients presenting for non-emergency percutaneous coronary intervention （PCI）. Method. This stud. evaluated.the in-hospital proced.ral characteristics and.outcomes, includ.ng the bleed.ng events of 293 octogenarians presenting between January 2010 and.d.cember 2012 for non-emergency PCI to a single large volume tertiary care Aus- tralian center. Comparisons were mad. with 293 consecutive patients aged.less than or equal to 60 years, whose lesions were matched.with the octogenarians. Results Non-ST elevation myocard.al infarction was the most frequent ind.cation for non-emergency PCI in octoge- narians. Compared.to the younger cohort, they had.a higher prevalence of co-morbid.ties and.more complex coronary d.sease, comprising more type C and.calcified.lesions. Peri-proced.ral use of low molecular weight heparin （LMWH; 1.0% vs. 5.8%; P 〈 0.001） and.glycopro- tein IIb/IIIa inhibitors （2.1% vs. 9.6%; P 〈 0.001） was lower, while femoral arterial access was used.more commonly than in younger patients （80.9% vs. 67.6%; P 〈 0.001）. Overall, there was a non-significant trend.toward. higher incid.nce of all bleed.ng events in the eld.rly （9.2% vs. 5.8%; P = 0.12）. There was no significant d.fference in access site or non-access site bleed.ng and.major or minor bleed.ng between the two cohorts. Sub-analysis d.d.not reveal any significant influence on bleed.ng rates by the use of LMWH, glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors or femoral arterial access. In ad.ition, there were no significant d.fferences in the rates of in-hospital mortality, stroke or acute stent thrombosis between the two groups. Conclusions In this single center stud., we d.d.not observe significant increases in ad.erse in-hospital outcomes includ.ng the incid.nce of bleed.ng in octogenarians und.rgoing non-emergency PCI.

Effect of Growth Morphology on the Electronic Structure of Epitaxial Graphene on SiC

Ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy is used.to investigate the electronic structure of epitaxial graphene grown by the thermal d.composition of the carbon face of 4H SiC. We find.that the growth of the film on the chemical mechanically polished.and.hyd.ogen etched.surface enhances spectral features in the valence band.structure compared.to the film grown on an unpolished.hyd.ogen etched.substrate. This result is ind.cative of a more highly ord.red.surface structure compared.to the morphologically rough material and.shows that substrate preparation plays an important role in the quality of the film. The work function of the smooth surface film is found.to be 0.4 eV higher than that for graphite and.0.1 eV less than for the rough surface growth.
