The improvement of microbial characterization has increased the comprehension of microbial population and their ability in the microbiological metal dissolution. Bioleaching processes have been expanded to use microorganisms for the recovery of metals from ores and wastes. This study introduces Palca mine tailings pond in Peru which turned into acid mine drainage (AMD). AMD is a source of microbial communities whose microorganisms may support the aqueous extractive metallurgy for metal recovery. Four samples of AMD were collected from different locations and the elemental characterization showed concentrations of metals, such as cu, Zn, Al, Mn, and Fe. The pH of the samples showed variation between 1.9 - 6.8. Twenty-one microorganisms were isolated and selected according the cell morphology. 16s rRNA gene sequences identified five species of which three belong to the bacterial kingdom and two to the Fungi kingdom. Two of the bacterial species were ferrous ion oxidizing bacteria, identified as Acidithiobacillus ferriphilus and Acidithiobacillus ferridurans;and the other one a ferric ion reducing bacteria identified as Acidiphilium acidophilum. The fungi species identified were Rhodotorula sinensis and Exophiala xenobiotica, a filamentous fungus isolated for the first time from an AMD.

Bevel Tip Deformation in New and Used Dental Needles

Objectives: To evaluate quantitatively deformation of the angle of the horizontal plane of the bevel tip in new dental needles and in dental needles used in clinical procedures. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed with 360 dental needles from four different manufacturers. The needles were divided into four groups (90 per group): Group 1, Monoject;Group 2, DLP;Group 3, Badiject, and Group 4, Zeyco. The new and used needles were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy to evaluate quantitatively the deformation on the bevel. Results: All groups showed a significantly statistical difference between new needles and needles used for one or two injections

RESPONSE OF WHEAT cOMPOSITE cROSS POPULATIONS TO DISEASE AND cLIMATE VARIATION OVER 13 GENERATIONS

Since the F_(5)(2005),three winter wheat composite cross populations(ccPs)based on germplasm specifically suitable for low-input conditions were subjected to natural selection under organic and conventional *** the F_(6),each ccP was divided into two parallel populations(12 ccPs in total)and maintained continuously until *** used modern cultivars with different disease susceptibilities were grown alongside to assess the agronomic performance of the *** organically managed ccPs were comparable in yield and foliar disease resistance to two continuously used reference cultivars,Achat and *** contrast,under conventional management the *** outyielded the ccPs(Achat was not tested),highlighting the importance of parental cultivar choice for specific management *** ccPs were found to be moderately resistant to brown rust and even to the newly emerged stripe rust races prevalent in Europe since *** between the ccPs were mainly due to parental genetic background and were significant in the first five generations,but were no longer so in the last five *** addition,these differences tended to vary depending on the experimental year and the environmental stresses *** conclusion,the ccPs despite being derived from older cultivars are able to compete with more recently released reference cultivars under organic farming practices and represent a dynamic germplasm resource.

Effect of mini-cutting size on adventitious rooting and morphophysiological quality of Ilex paraguariensis plantlets

As the energizing and therapeutic effects of infusions of mate(Ilex paraguariensis ***.-Hil)leaves are increasingly recognized,rising global consumption is also increasing the demand for plantlets with high genetic and morphological ***-cuttings are an alternative for clonal plantlets;however,more details are needed on factors that affect the success of this ***,toward maximizing production,we evaluated adventitious rooting competence of mini-cuttings of different sizes and the morphophysiological quality of the resultant ***(one bud;length up to 2.5 cm),medium(multiple buds;length 2.6–5.0 cm),and large(multiple buds;length 5.1–10.0 cm)mini-cuttings were planted in a mixture of commercial substrate,vermiculite,and coarse sand(1:1:1 v:v:v),grown in a humidity chamber,then evaluated after 45,60,75,and 90 days for survival,percentage of callus and shoot formation,number and length of shoots,percentage of rooted cuttings,and number and length of *** rooted mini-cuttings were then cultivated in commercial substrate and subsurface soil(2:1 v:v)and evaluated after 30,60,90 and 120 days of cultivation for morphophysiology of the plantlets,percentage of survival,number of leaves,shoot height,stem diameter,and ratio of shoot height to stem *** 120 days,the plantlets were evaluated for the ratio of shoot and root dry mass,total length,surface area,total volume,and mean diameter of roots and Dickson quality *** rooting of the mini-cuttings and the morphophysiological quality of the plantlets were not influenced by the size of the vegetative ***,single-bud mini-cuttings have similar adventitious rooting competence,and result in plantlets with adequate morphophysiological quality,based upon leaf development,shoot height,stem diameter and length,and surface area,volume and diameter of ***-bud mini-cuttings up to 2.5 cm long can thus be used to maximize production of mate plantlets by mini-c

Actigraphy: A new diagnostic tool for hepatic encephaiopathy

AIM： To assess the actigraphy, an ambulatory and continuous monitoring of wrist motor activity fitted to study sleep/wake patterns in hepatic encephalopathy （HE）. METHODS： Twenty-five cirrhotic patients （17 M, 8 F, mean age 56± 11 years, 24/25 alcoholic, child-Pugh A, B, c： 2, 6, 17） were included. The patients were classified into 3 groups： stage 0 group （n = 12）, stage 1-2 group （n = 6）, and stage 3-4 group （n = 7） of encephalopathy. Over three consecutive days, patients had clinical evaluation 3 times a day with psychometric test, venous ammoniemia, flash visually evoked potentials （VEP）, electroencephalogram and continuous actigraphic monitoring for 3 d, providing 5 parameters： mesor, amplitude, acrophase, mean duration of activity （MDAI） and inactivity （MDII） intervals. RESULTS： Serum ammonia and VEP did not differ among the 3 groups. Electroencephalography mean dominant frequency （MDF） correlated significantly with clinical stages of HE （r=0.65, P=0.003）. The best correlation with HE stage was provided by actigraphy especially with MDAI （r= 0.7, P〈10^-4） and mesor （r= 0.65, P〈 10^-4）. MDAI correlated significantly with MDF （r= 0.62, 0.004） and was significantly shorter in case of HE compared to patients without HE （stage 0： 5.33± 1.6 min; stage 1-2：3.28±1.4 min; stage 3-4：2.52±1.1 min; P〈0.05）. Using a threshold of MDAI of less than 4.9 min, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value for HE diagnosis were 85%, 67%, 73% and 80%, respectively. cONcLUSION： Actigraphy may be an objective method to identify HE, especially for early HE detection. Motor activity at the wrist correlates well with clinical stages of HE. MDAI and mesor are the most relevant parameters.

Two-day enema antibiotic therapy for parasite eradication and resolution of symptoms

Organizational commitment and turnover intention among rural nurses in the Philippines: Implications for nursing management

Objectives:The unrelenting migration trend of Filipino nurses to other countries has threatened the quality of patient care services in the *** study explored the extent of nurses'organizational commitment and turnover intention in the ***,predictors of nurses'organizational commitment and turnover intention were ***:A cross-sectional research design was adopted for this *** hundred nurses from nine rural hospitals in the central Philippines were asked to participate in the study and 166 nurses responded(an 83%response rate).Two standardized instruments were used:the Organizational commitment Questionnaire and the Six-item Turnover Intention Inventory ***:Findings revealed that Philippine nurses were moderately committed(3.13±0.24)to and were undecided(2.42±0.67)whether or not to leave their ***'age(P=0.006),gender,(t=-2.25,P=0.026),education(t=2.38,Pce(t=2.18,P=0.031)correlated significantly with organizational commitment,while nurses'age(P=0.028)and education(t=1.99,P=0.048)correlated significantly with turnover *** inverse relationship was identified between the organizational commitment and turnover intention(r=-0.22,P=0.005).conclusion:The findings of this study highlight the need for formulation and implementation of interventions to promote life-long commitment in nurses and to reduce turnover rates.
