Wolbachia are maternally inherited endosymbiotic bacteria infecting a wide range of arthropods and filarial nematodes. They can induce various reproduction alterations in their hosts, including thelytokous parthenogenesis, cytoplasmic incompatibility （Ci）, feminization of genetic males and male killing. Here we investigated diversity and prevalence patterns of Wolbachia infection in 43 geographical populations of the Asian corn borer, Ostriniafurnacalis, in China and one population in North Korea. Based on Wolbachia surface protein gene （wsp） sequences, nine strains of Wolbachia （wFurl-wFur9）, belonging to supergroups A and B, were identified in populations of O. furnacalis with an average infection rate of 10.5%. Superinfection commonly appeared in individuals of O. furnacalis and coinfection patterns were very complex. There was no specific pattern for the prevalence and distribution of the nine Wolbachia strains suggesting an intricate evolutionary history of Wolbachia infection in this species. The genetic similarity of the wFurl-wFur9 strains with those detected in two parasitoids of O. furnacalis, Macrocentrus cingulum and Lydella grisescens, strongly suggests host-parasitoid horizontal transmission.

The present article tests the following general assumption:plant taxa with different specializations towards mycorrhizal interactions should have different root *** of 61 species common in boreal zone were studied:16 species of Poaceae,24 species of Cyperaceae,14 species of Orchidaceae,and 7 species of *** a fixed material of 5 individuals of each species,the following was determined:number of orders of branching roots;transverse dimensions of root,stele and cortex;number of primary xylem vessels and exodermis layers;length of root hairs;abundance of *** of each family had well-defined *** of Orchidaceae and iridaceae were thick with a large stele and developed *** had no branching roots and had long root *** iridaceae,roots were branched,and root hairs were *** of Poaceae and Cyperaceae were thin with a relatively thin *** hairs were short in Poaceae and long in *** finding that root syndromes of four families of monocots differed is a new and unexpected *** high specificity of root syndromes in Cyperaceae,iridaceae,Poaceae,and Orchidaceae indicates that species of these families use different strategies to obtain water and soil nutrients.

Miombo woodlands near human settlements are under significant pressures from human activities,with negative consequences on their structure and *** studies are limited,we assessed the structure and species composition of a portion of miombo woodland along an increasing disturbance gradient from a national park,through a buffer zone to communal lands in northeast *** concentric plots of 2 and 11 m radii were established in each area to record woody species composition,diameter,height,basal area,density and volume as well as evidence of *** of site,growth stage and their interaction on vegetation diversity and structural parameters were tested using a general linear model(GLM).Principal component analysis(PCA) tested the association between species and site and ANOVA the differences in the level of disturbance across *** diversity did not differ between sites except for evenness,which increased with *** and richness were greater in seedlings and saplings than mature trees across sites,*** and mature tree diameters differed significantly between *** and density of mature trees declined with increasing disturbance while seedling densities peaked at intermediate disturbance levels(buffer zone).Tree harvesting,was more evident in the buffer zone and in the communal area relative to the national *** contrast,fire frequency was greater in the national park and in the buffer zone relative to the communal *** results of this study identify a true miombo woodland dominated by Brachystegia boehmii with a stable population,as illustrated by an inverse-J shape in diameter class distribution on all sites,and that these woodlands are generally resilient to disturbances,maintaining similar species composition and structure at various levels of ***,continued monitoring of disturbance levels and miombo woodland response is recommended to ensure sustainable utilisation of

This study presents the results of a research into the developing a methodology for assessing the adequacy of advanced electric power systems characterized by the integration of various innovative technologies,which complicates their *** methodology development is aimed at solving two main problems:(1)increase the adequacy of modeling the processes that occur in the electric power system and (2)enhance the computational efficiency of the adequacy assessment *** study proposes a new mathematical model to minimize the power shortage and enhance the adequacy of modeling the *** model considers quadratic power transmission losses and network *** computational efficiency of the adequacy assessment methodology is enhanced using efficient random-number generators to form the calculated states of electric power systems and machine learning methods to assess power shortages and other reliability characteristics in the calculated states.

in recent years,the penetration of renewable resources into AC power systems has increased tremendously,creating a significantly impact on the latter’s operations and *** this respect,it is also important to gain a basic analytical understanding of such impact on the steady-state stability of power systems with electrically weak AC/DC interconnections,but such works are not very evident in the ***,a classical analytic model of the single and multi-infeed HVDC system which now incorporates renewable resources is *** the well-established concept of voltage sensitivity of the AC/DC interconnection is applied to analyze the impact of the renewable resources on the steady-state stability of these composite system models,as well as on the influence of system conditions and *** impact is also compared with that arising from other types of shunt devices alternatively connected at the same AC/DC interconnection,therefore their relative beneficial or negative impacts will also be benchmarked.

Driven by many applications in a wide span of scientifc fields,a myriad of advanced ultrafast imaging techniques have emerged in the last decade,featuring record-high imaging speeds above a trllion-frame-per-second with long sequence *** bringing remarkable insights into various ultrafast phenomena,their application out of a laboratory environment is however limited in most cases,either by the cost,complexity of the operation or by heavy data *** then report a versatile single-shot imaging technique combining sequentially timed lloptical mapping photography(STAMP)with acousto-optics programmable dispersive fhitering(AOPDF)and digital in-line holography(DiH).On the one hand,a high degree of simplicity is reached through the AOPDF,which enables full control over the acquisition parameters via an electrically driven phase and amplitude spectro-temporal tailoring of the imaging ***,contrary to most single-shot techniques,the frame rate,exposure time,and frame intensities can be independently adjusted in a wide range of pulse durations and chirp values without resorting to complex shaping stages,making the system remarkably agile and *** the other hand,the use of DiH,which does not require any reference beam,allows to achieve an even higher technical simplicity by allowing its lensless operation but also for reconstructing the object on a wide depth of field,contrary to classical techniques that only provide images in a single *** imaging speed of the system as well as its flexibility are demonstrated by visualizing ultrashort events on both the picosecond and nanosecond *** virtues and limitations as welll as the potential improvements of this on-demand ultrafast imaging method are critically discussed.

Zr4+and F~– co-doped TiO2with the formula of Ti0.97Zr0.03O1.98F0.02was facilely synthesized by a sol-gel template *** crystal structure,morphology,composition,surface area,and conductivity were characterized by Raman spectroscopy,energy-dispersive X-ray analysis,scanning electron microscopy,Brunauer-Emmett-Teller measurements,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and electrochemical impedance *** results demonstrate that Zr4+and F~–homogeneously incorporated into TiO2,forming solid solution with an anatase ***0.97Zr0.03O1.98F0.02shows outstanding electrochemical properties as Li-ion battery anode in comparison with *** particular,upon 35-fold cycling at 1C-rate Zr4+/F~–co-doped TiO2delivers a reversible capacity of 163 mAh g–1,whereas Zr4+-doped TiO2gives only 34 mA h g–***,Zr4+/F~–co-doped TiO2retains a capacity of 138 mA h g–1during cycling even at 10 *** enhance performance originates from improved conductivity of Zr4+/F~–co-doped TiO2material through generation of Ti3+(serving as electron donors)into the crystal lattice and,possibly,due to F-doping blocked the anode surface from attack of HF formed as electrolyte decomposition product.
