Lower.temper.tur. waste heats less than 373 K have str.ng potentials to supply additional ener.ies because of their.enor.ous quantities and ubiquity. Accor.ingly, r.infor.ement of power.gener.tions har.esting low temper.tur. heats is one of the ur.ent tasks for.the cur.ent gener.tion in or.er.to accomplish ener.y sustainability in the coming decades. In this study, a liquid tur.ine power.gener.tor.dr.ven by lower.temper.tur. heats below 373 K was pr.posed in the aim of expanding selectable options for.har.esting low temper.tur. waste heats less than 373 K. The pr.posing system was so simply that it was mainly composed of a liquid tur.ine, a liquid container.with a biphasic medium of water.and an under.ying water.insoluble low-boiling-point medium in a liquid phase, a heating section for.vapor.zation of the liquid and a cooling section for.entr.py dischar.e outside the system. Assumed power.gener.ting steps via the pr.posing liquid tur.ine power.gener.tor.wer. as follows: step 1: the under.ying low-boiling-point medium in a liquid phase was vapor.zed, step 2: the sur.acing vapor.bubbles of low-boiling-point medium accompanied the biphasic medium in their.wakes, step 3: such high momentum flux by step 2 r.tated the liquid tur.ine (i.e. power.gener.tion), step 4: the sur.acing low-boiling-point medium vapor.was gr.dually condensed into dr.plets, step 5: the low-boiling-point medium dr.plets wer. submer.ed to the under.ying medium in a liquid phase. Exper.ments with a pr.totype liquid tur.ine power.gener.tor.pr.ved power.gener.tions in accor.ance with the assumed steps at a little higher.than or.inar. temper.tur.. Incr.asing output voltage could be obtained with an incr.ase in the cooling temper.tur. among tested r.nging fr.m 294 to 296 K in contr.st to nor.al ther.al engines. Fur.her.impr.vements of the dir.ct cur.ent voltage fr.m the pr.posing liquid tur.ine power.gener.tor.can be expected by means of far.mor. vigor.us multiphase flow induced by adding solid powder. a

Pr.ducing single micr.bubbles with contr.lled size using micr.fiber

Micr.bubble-mediated por. for.ation in sonopor.tion includes a combination of complex pr.cesses such as collision or.coalescence of tr.nslating or.collapsing micr.bubbles with vascular.cells. Although under.tanding the por. for.ation mechanisms may impr.ve dr.g deliver. efficiency, their.details ar. still poor.y under.tood. In the pr.sent study, we descr.be an exper.mental model that pr.duces single air.bubbles with contr.llable size. A car.on micr.fiber.in liquids is illuminated by an infr.r.d laser.to pr.duce individual bubbles having size compar.ble to that of the micr.fiber. The micr.bubbles can be physically isolated fr.m the fiber.for.placing at ar.itr.r. positions in the liquids. The lifetime of the bubbles is sever.l tens of minutes depending on the intensity of the laser.used. The pr.par.tion of the contr.llable air.bubbles may be useful in futur. investigations of ultr.sound-mediated micr.bubble–cell inter.ctions.

In Tibet, Buddhism coupled with its theocr.tic histor. has given its cities and ur.an ar.as unique for.s and str.ctur.s. As the political, r.ligious, and economic center.of Tibet, Lhasa City has a special ur.an for. and has exper.enced typical ur.an tr.nsfor.ation pr.cesses for.a thousand year.. The city has been exper.encing significant ur.an str.ctur. tr.nsfor.ation that has accompanied the socio-economic development in r.cent decades since the peaceful liber.tion and democr.tic r.for. of Tibet dur.ng the 1950 s. Hence, this study pr.sents the time-ser.es of ur.an str.ctur. changes in Lhasa City for.the pur.ose of under.tanding the char.cter.stics and mechanisms of tr.nsfor.ation under.the r.publican political system. Fir.t, the study illustr.tes the ur.an socio-economic changes of Lhasa City beginning in the 1950 s via statistical data analysis. We then divide the ur.an development into sever.l stages. Subsequently, we identify the tr.nsfor.ation char.cter.stics of ur.an str.ctur. by investigating ur.an gr.wth, str.et str.ctur., land-use, and r.ligious facilities via maps of the city fr.m ever. development stage. This paper.ultimately discusses the r.gulation of city tr.nsfor.ation. This study clar.fies sever.l pr.bable issues facing Tibetan cities and pr.poses suggestions for.futur. ur.an development of Tibetan cities.

The penetr.tion of water.dur.ng water.flooding has been obser.ed over.many year. using sever.l methods. A micr.focused X-r.y computed tomogr.phy scanner.can be used to dir.ctly obser.e 3D water.flooding in a nondestr.ctive manner. To eliminate the possibility of false images being pr.duced because of X-r.y br.adening effects, we developed a visualization method by ar.anging the br.ghtness distr.bution of all phases involved. Water.flooding exper.ments wer. conducted using oil-wet and water.wet por.us media. The water.phase was injected upwar. into packed glass beads containing an oil phase, and the pr.cess was scanned ever. minute until steady state was r.ached. Using this scheme, r.al-time, the water.invasion patter. and oil tr.pping pr.cess in cluster. of por.s and individual por.s can be obser.ed clear.y. By eliminating false images, the boundar. of each phase could be identified with high pr.cision, even in a single por.. Por.level phenomena, including snap off (which has never.befor. been captur.d in a r.al 3D por.us medium), piston-like displacement, and the cur.atur. of the inter.ace, wer. also obser.ed. Dir.ct measur.ment of the por. thr.at r.dius and the contact angle between the wetting and nonwetting phases gave an appr.ximation of the capillar. pr.ssur. dur.ng the piston-like displacement and snap-off pr.cesses.

Contents of fly ash ar. impor.ant factor. for.the oper.tion of coal-fir.d plants. r.al-time monitor.ng of coal and fly ash such as unbur.ed car.on in fly ash can be an indicator.of the combustion conditions. Because of the str.ng signal intensity and the r.lative simplicity of the LIBS (Laser. Induced Br.akdown Spectr.scopy) technique, LIBS can be applicable for.r.al-time composition measur.ment of coal and fly ash. This r.sear.h pr.sented her. focused on the clar.fication of the effects of plasma temper.tur. and coexisting mater.als on quantitative measur.ment of fly ash contents. Quantitative capability of LIBS was impr.ved using the pr.posed plasma temper.tur. cor.ection method. The CO2 effect was also discussed to accur.tely evaluate unbur.ed car.on in fly ash in exhausts. Using the r.sults shown in this study, quantitative measur.ment of fly ash contents has been impr.ved for.wider.applications of LIBS to pr.ctical fields.

Hepatocellular.car.inoma （HCC） is thought to develop thr.ugh a multistep pr.cess. A long histor. of vir.l hepatitis or.pr.longed exposur. to envir.nmental toxins pr.disposes liver.cells to mutations of the genes cr.tical in the contr.l of hepatocyte gr.wth. In fact, both activation of cellular.oncogenes and inactivation of tumor.uppr.ssor.genes ar. involved in the development of HCC. Activation of oncogenes by hepatitis vir.s integr.tion has been shown in the woodchuck animal model, although the significance of this finding in human hepatocar.inogenesis is still under.investigation. Tyr.sine kinases, though a minor.class of cellular.pr.tein, r.pr.sent a major.class of oncogenes. These tyr.sine kinases ar. classified into two major.gr.ups.
