Goal: To describe the clinical and immunological characteristics in the HIV-infected patients at the antiretroviral treatment initiation. Methods: This was a descriptive and retrospective study on the cohort of the patients living with HIV followed at Parakou teaching hospital from the 1st January 2004 to the 31st December 2012. Persons under the age of 15 and the pregnant women have been excluded from the study. Results: The active file was composed of 988 patients under antiretroviral treatment. They were 339 men and 649 women. The sex ratio was 0.52. The average age of the patients was 35.49 ± 9.72 years. The immunodeficiency was profound with 57.65% of patients at the stage 3 of WHO and 42.35% at the stage 4. Opportunistic infections at the antiretroviral treatment initiation were dominated by oral candidiasis (30.16%), the diarrhea (20.45%) and zona (11.03%). Conclusion: HIV infection touched young adults who consult at an advanced stage of immunodeficiency.

We stress a basic criterion that shows in a simple way how a sequence of real-valued functions can converge uniformly when it is more or less evident that the sequence converges uniformly away from a finite number of points of the closure of its domain. For functions of a real variable, unlike in most classical textbooks our criterion avoids the search of extrema (by differential calculus) of their general term.

We generalize a result on bifurcation from infinity of high order ordinary differential equations with multi-point boundary conditions. Our abstract setting represents a variant of Nonlinear Krein-Ruthman theorems. Furthermore, an analysis of this abstract setting raises an open question motivated by some misunderstanding and inconclusive proofs about the simplicity of principal eigenvalues in some articles in the literature.

Let (M, g) be a Riemannian manifold and G be a Kaluza-Klein metric on its tangent bundle TM. A metric H on TM is said to be symmetrically harmonic to G if the metrics G and H are harmonic w.r.t. each other;that is the identity maps id: (TM,G) → (TM,H) and id: (TM,H) → (TM,G) are both harmonic maps. In this work we study Kaluza-Klein metrics H on TM which are symmetrically harmonic to G. In particular, we characterize and determine horizontally and vertically conformal Kaluza-Klein metrics H on TM, which are symmetrically harmonic to G.

In this paper, a new Ricci flow is canonically introduced in Finsler Geometry and, under the variance of Finsler-Ehresmann form, conformal changes of Finsler metrics are studied. Some existence conditions of this Finslerian Ricci flow on a compact manifold which preserves the conformal class of the initial metric are obtained as an application.

Prevalence and Factors Associated with Anxiety and Depression in Expectant Mothers at Parakou in 2018

Background: Anxiety and depressive disorders can disturb the development of pregnancies. The goal was to study the prevalence and factors associated with anxiety and depression in expectant mothers followed in public maternity wards of Parakou in 2018. Population and methods: It was a cross- sectional study which consisted in an exhaustive census and a consecutive recruitment of 835 expectant mothers from June 14th to September 14th, 2018. Data collection was realized through interview between the investigator and the respondent basing on a questionnaire in which were integrated Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale-3 (EPDS-3), EPDS and modular Integrated Household Living Conditions Survey (IHLCS-2015) to assess respectively anxiety, depression and expectant mothers’ socio-economic level. Results: The prevalences of anxiety and depression were respectively 44.91% and 35.33%. Many factors were associated with anxiety and depression. Low socio-economic level increased 6.7 times the risk of developing anxiety (OR = 6.70;IC95% [2.83 - 13.00];p = 0.000) and 8.64 times the risk for the onset of depression (OR = 8.64;IC95% [3.09 - 17.18];p = 0.000). Celibacy increased 2.67 times the risk of developing anxiety (OR = 2.67;IC95% [1.19 - 5.98];p = 0.000) and 2.18 times the one of depression (OR = 2.18;IC95% [1.07 - 4.40];p = 0.000). Low economic level and celibacy were the main psychosocial determinants of anxiety and depression in expectant mothers. Conclusion: The implementation of multidisciplinary action program centred on improving purchasing power would reduce the risk of anxiety and depression in expectant mothers.

Epidemiology of Anemia at the Internal Medicine Department in Borgou Departmental Hospital Center(DHC)in Parakou(Benin)

Objective: To describe clinical and biological characteristics of anemia in the Internal Medicine department of Borgou Departmental Hospital Center (DHC). Methods: This was a transversal and descriptive study for an analytic purpose. All patients hospitalized in the Internal Medicine department of Borgou DHC who had a hemogram for their care were included in the study. Anemia was defined as a hemoglobin level lower than 12 g/dL for men and lower than 11.5 g/dL for women. Results: Frequency of anemia was 61.8% (76 of 123 patients). Anemia was moderate in 47.4% of the cases and severe in 27.6% of the cases. Basing on the mean corpuscular volume, microcytic anemia accounted for 36.8%, anemia was normocytic in 46.1% and macrocytic in 17.1% of cases. According to the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, normochromic anemia accounted for 81.6% of the series and hypochromic in 18.4%. The most common pathologies found in anemic patients came from digestive origin (17%), the renal causes were also found in 17% of the cases. Cardiac pathologies were responsible for anemia in 13% of cases. Malaria and pulmonary pathologies were responsible for anemia in respectively 12% and 9%. The main factors associated with anemia were young age (young adult) and neurological pathologies. Conclusion: Anemia hospital prevalence is very high in the Internal Medicine Department of Borgou DHC. Awareness of populations and practitioners for the early management of various pathologies which provide anemia could improve this presentation.

Goals: The study has been initiated in order to describe the epidemiological, clinical and etiological aspect of the ascites. Patients and methods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study on the patients with an ascite and followed at the medicine department of Borgou departmental teaching hospital. Results: A total of 190 patients have presented an ascite or a hospital prevalence at 3.93%. A male predominance has been observed with a sex-ratio at 1.7. The average age was 39.7 ± 13.9 years. The reason for consultation is dominated by the increase of the abdominal volume (69.5%). The ascite fluid is macroscopically yellow citrine. The cirrhosis (28.5%) and the heart diseases (18.6%) were the most encountered causes of the ascites. Conclusion: The etiologies of ascites are various and dominated by the hepatic cirrhosis and the heart diseases.
