Autophagy is a lysosomal degradation pathway of cellular components such as organelles and long-lived *** a protective role for autophagy has been established in various patho-physiologic conditions such as cancer,neurodegeneration,aging and heart failure,a growing body of evidence now reveals a protective role for autophagy in atherosclerosis,mainly by removing oxidatively damaged organelles and proteins and also by promoting cholesterol egress from the lipid-laden *** studies by Razani et al and Liao et al unravel novel pathways that might be involved in autophagic protection and in this commentary we highlight the importance of autophagy in atherosclerosis in the light of these two recent papers.

AIM: To investigate the role of [breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility 1（BRCA1）-associated RING domain 1（BARD1）]/BRCA1 E3-ubiquitin ligase complex in governing the stability of mutant liver X receptor-（LXR-α） protein in coronary heart disease（CHD） ***: The expression analysis of various genes was carried out by quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting within blood mononuclear cells of human CHD subjects at various stages of coronary occlusion and their corresponding normal healthy *** experiments were performed to establish protein interactions between LXR-αand *** blood mononuclear cells were cultured and exposed to Vitamin D3 and Cisplatin to validate the degradation of mutant LXR-αprotein in CHD subjects by BARD1/BRCA1 ***: The expression of mutant LXR-αprotein in CHD subjects was found to decrease gradually with the severity of coronary occlusion exhibiting a strong negative correlation,r =-0.975 at P < ***,the expression of BARD1 and BRCA1 also increased with the disease severity,r = 0.895 and 0.873 respectively（P < 0.001）.Immunoprecipitation studies established that BARD1/BRCA1 complex degrades mutant LXR-αvia *** absence of functional LXR-αprotein resulted in increased expression of inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin（IL）-6,IL-8 and interferon-and decreased expression of ABCA1（ATP-binding cassette A1）（r = 0.932,0.949,0.918 and-0.902 with respect to Gensini score;P < 0.001）.Additionally,cell culture experiments proved that Vitamin D3 could prevent the degradation of mutant LXR-αand restore its functional activity to some ***: Mutant LXR-αprotein in CHD subjects is degraded by BARD1/BRCA1 complex and Vitamin D3 can rescue and restore its function.

Objective:To analyze the phytochemical compounds and to investigate the bio-toxic efficacy of various solvent extracts of Plectranthus amboinicus against mosquito larvae activity and lethality on non-targeting ***:The methanol,ethyl acetate,hexane,and aqueous extracts of Plectranthus amboinicus were subjected to analyze the mosquitocidal activity against the dengue vector,Aedes aegypti and toxicity assays on zebra fish and brine *** replications were performed,and negative control was also ***,ethyl acetate extract of Plectranthus amboinicus was chosen for the determination of bio-active ***:The mosquitocidal assays of methanol and ethyl acetate extracts of Plectranthus amboinicus showed the maximal activity with minimal concentration against the 4 th instar mosquito-larvae of Aedes aegypti through the following lethal concentration(LC50 and LC90)values:53.36&92.51μg/m L and 13.64&86.09μg/mL,*** addition,the plant extracts showed no toxicity on zebra fish embryo and brine shrimp *** gas-chromatography analysis of the ethyl acetate extract of Plectranthus amboinicus revealed the presence of seven different *** them,PAEA-fraction 60 contained a major active bioactive compound,hexadecanoic acid,methyl ester(270.0).Conclusions:Plectranthus amboinicus possesses mosquitocidal properties and could be used as a potential alternative source for preparing the mosquitocidal agents.
