Excitons,bound electron–hole pairs,in two-dimensional hybrid organic inorganic perovskites(2D HOIPs)are capable of forming hybrid light-matter states known as exciton-polaritons(E–Ps)when the excitonic medium is confined in an optical *** the case of 2D HOIPs,they can self-hybridize into E–Ps at specific thicknesses of the HOIP crystals that form a resonant optical cavity with the ***,the fundamental properties of these self-hybridized E–Ps in 2D HOIPs,including their role in ultrafast energy and/or charge transfer at interfaces,remain ***,we demonstrate that>0.5µm thick 2D HOIP crystals on Au substrates are capable of supporting multiple-orders of self-hybridized E–P *** E–Ps have high Q factors(>100)and modulate the optical dispersion for the crystal to enhance sub-gap absorption and *** varying excitation energy and ultrafast measurements,we also confirm energy transfer from higher energy E–Ps to lower energy E–***,we also demonstrate that E–Ps are capable of charge transport and transfer at *** findings provide new insights into charge and energy transfer in E–Ps opening new opportunities towards their manipulation for polaritonic devices.

Analysis of Pollutant Load Carrying Capacity of the River Tapi Using QUAL2Kw for Surat City

River Tapi is the prime water body for Surat city, Gujarat, India. On a long stretch of 22.39 km in Surat city (Kamrej to Causeway) of the Tapi river, there are many identified and non-identified discharge points available. Excessive discharge from these points restricts the efficiency of the self-purification process which ultimately degrades the river water quality. In this paper, an attempt has been made to estimate the pollutant load-carrying capacity at different segments of the river Tapi using the QUAL2Kw tool. The study has been undertaken with different scenarios: First, the QUAL2Kw model was trained with available river water quality and hydraulic data of the Tapi river in which the complete river segment was divided into 21 reaches. The model was calibrated and validated with the actual concentrations of the pollutants entering. In the second phase, all the point source, non-point source, and headwater characteristics were considered and the pollutant load-carrying capacity of the river in terms of BOD, ISS, and N-nitrate was found. In the third phase, all the sources of pollutants entering the river have been removed and only headwater characteristics were considered for the study. The results indicate that reach no. 21 (21.23ºN, 72.82ºE) has the maximum load-carrying capacity of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) up to 2057.7 kg/day, Inorganic Suspended Solids (ISS) up to 85633.8 kg/day, and Nitrate (NO3) up to 31688.8 kg/day. However, reach no. 4 has the minimum load carrying capacity of BOD up to 1088.1 kg/day, reach 8 carries a minimum of ISS 205341.6 kg/day and NO3 10215.57 kg/day.

Pollution Potential Ranking of Industries Using Classical TODIM Method

Pollution of air and water is increasing day by day, as the number of industry is in-creasing and sometimes emission of pollutants in air and water exceeds the norms. So the pollution potential of industries based on the emission of pollutants needs to be assessed. In proposed method, based on the weights and emission of the pollutants, the final score of industries has been calculated which indicates the polluting potential of the industry. In this paper, attempt has been made to evaluate the score and the rank of industries using TODIM decision making process, in which higher score of particular industry is an indicator of higher pollution load imparted by particular industry and vice versa.

Geochemical Evaluation of Groundwater in the Mandvi Taluka of Surat, India

The quality of water is a vital concern for mankind since it is directly linked to human health. The present work is carried out with an objective to assess and map the spatial variability in the groundwater quality parameters in Mandvi Taluka, Surat district Gujarat, India. A total fifty-seven representative ground-water samples from different bore wells and hand pumps from Mandvi Taluka has been collected and analyzed for major cation and anions with fluoride concentration for the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. Ground water in the region is found alkaline, with presence of bicarbonates in nature and very hard. Weathering and leaching of F- bearing minerals under the alkaline conditions favors the high F-?concentration. Presence of low total hardness, low calcium hardness, high chlorides, high bicarbonates and some anthropogenic factors such as intensive and long-term irrigation, heavy use of fertilizers are the supplementary factors to further enhance the F- concentrations in the groundwater. Moreover, GIS spatial distribution maps give better visual image to understand the spatial distribution pattern to overlook better conclusion.

Direct detection and identification of active pharmaceutical ingredients in intact tablets by helium plasma ionization(HePI) mass spectrometry

A simple modification converts an electrospray ion source to an ambient-pressure helium plasma ionization source without the need of additional expensive hardware. Peaks for active ingredients were observed in the spectra recorded from intact pharmaceutical tablets placed in this source. A flow of heated nitrogen was used to thermally desorb analytes to gas phase. The desorption temperatures were sometimes as low as 50 ℃. For example, negative-ion spectra recorded from an aspirin tablet showed peaks at m/z 137 （salicylate anion） and 179 （acetylsalicylate anion） which were absent in the background spectra. The overall ion intensity increased as the desorption gas temperature was elevated. Within the same acquisition experiment, both positive- and negative-ion signals for acetaminophen were recorded from volatiles emanating from Tylenol tablets by switching the polarity of the capillary back and forth. Moreover, different preparations of acetaminophen tablets could be distinguished by their ion-intensity thermograms.

Investigating Approaches of Data Integrity Preservation for Secure Data Aggregation in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) typically use in-network processing to reduce the communication overhead. Due to the fusion of data items sourced at different nodes into a single one during in-network processing, the sanctity of the aggregated data needs to be ensured. Especially, the data integrity of the aggregated result is critical as any malicious update to it can jeopardize not one, but many sensor readings. In this paper, we analyse three different approaches to providing integrity support for SDA in WSNs. The first one is traditional MAC, in which each leaf node and intermediate node share a key with parent (symmetric key). The second is aggregate MAC (AMAC), in which a base station shares a unique key with all the other sensor nodes. The third is homomorphic MAC (Homo MAC) that is purely symmetric key-based approach. These approaches exhibit diverse trade-off in resource consumption and security assumptions. Adding together to that, we also propose a probabilistic and improved variant of homomorphic MAC that improves the security strength for secure data aggregation in WSNs. We carry out simulations in TinyOS environment to experimentally evaluate the impact of each of these on the resource consumption in WSNs.

Detection and Adaptation in Parasitic Angiosperm Host Selection

Developmental transitions in some parasitic angiosperms are tied directly to host-derived chemical cues (xenognosins). The obligate hemi-parasite Striga asiatica, initiates the root apical meristem population (germination), development of the host attachment organ (the haustorium), and shoot apical meristem initiation (seed coat shedding) in response to specific xengonosins. These checkpoints synchronize spatial and temporal tissue development. We have now exploited the external control over these developmental transitions to trace functional expression in haustorial organogenesis. Genes associated with phytohormone regulation, metabolism, vascular tissue development, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production identified in this study suggest an elaborate and global response closely tied to plant defense and redox chemistry that may also be components of a more general quorum sensing-type mechanism in plants.

创造力、发明和创新被视为工程学教育的中心支柱。然而,很多大学却缺少培育开放式设计-建造项目的环境。大学里的制造空间和原型空间是典型的"加工车间",这些场所的使用者多数是专业人员或一些受过高级培训的学生,而非普通学生。为了使设计和原型更加贴合工程经验,佐治亚理工学院建立了发明工作室。这是一个配备最先进的综合性设备、可以免费使用、与学习工厂作用相似的创客空间,采用"自下而上"的管理方法,主要由一个本科生管理团队在学校行政管理部门和相关章程指导下集中运营和管理,支持各种项目类型的研究。尽管其最初只是专门为进行课程的顶层设计而创立,发明工作室现在已展现出强大的生命力,拥有了自己的特色文化,其意义已远超过一个顶层原型设计实验室。发明工作室的组织管理、设施建设、安全保证、资金筹备等方式,值得其他创造类似环境的学校借鉴,其设备、基础设施以及文化转型的经验表明,实践与设计-建造教育的价值在于可以持续有效地促进工科学生创新、创造和创业。
