Psychosocial assessments can help mental health professionals establish good therapeutic relationships while simultaneously conducting holistic assessments of their young clients. Using technology to conduct assessments may increase disclosure by young people;however, the uptake of new technologies into current face-to-face practice has been slow. In the current study, we were interested in exploring the attitudes of mental health workers to using an electronic psychosocial assessment tool (e-tool) within face-to-face service delivery with adolescents and young adults. An exploratory design was used to identify and qualitatively describe the views of 46 mental health workers from services across the ACT and Victoria, Australia. Data were coded using an inductive thematic approach. Comments indicated that mental health workers held both positive and negative views about the e-tool. Some participants believed that it would allow disclosure to occur in a stepped process, normalize questions, give youth greater input, and be time efficient. However, the majority believed that the e-tool would infringe on their work because they needed to respond to their clients immediately, it would not provide an accurate representation of the client, young people did not have the necessary capabilities to engage in the process, they would miss non-verbal cues from the young person, and they were more likely to gain information from organic conversations. The results suggest that many mental health professionals may be fearful of incorporating new technologies in current practice. Specific training and supportive implementation guidelines must be developed to support use of these new technologies and change practice.

Introduction: The estimation of blood loss rate during surgery for prediction of transfusion of blood or blood products requirement is important for surgeon and anesthesiologist. In regard to various results and lack of definite index for start of transfusion in operating rooms, the assessment of blood loss reduction is necessary. The aim of study was evaluation of hemoglobin (Hb) value and hemorrhage estimation rate. Methods and materials: 48 cases underwent major orthopedic surgery with high probability of intraoperative blood loss rate was included in study. Hb, hematocrit (Hct) and basic vital signs were measured preoperatively and blood loss rate was estimated by using of blood volume in suction, bloody gases and blood loss in operation field and recorded. The blood sample per 100 mL blood loss was sent to laboratory. For transfusion deciding based on Hb, we did not any intervention. Results: 26 males and 22 females were included in study. Our results showed that Hb value of males was higher significantly of females in preoperative period. After beginning of blood loss, Hb and Hct values declined with fixed slope and there was high negative correlation between them. First, intraoperative systolic and diastolic pressures declined with high slope and then reduced with mild slope. Hb value reduced significantly per 100 mL blood loss. During survey, no alteration in urine output did not be observed. Conclusion: Present study showed that much more intraoperative blood loss could reduce Hb with high correlation coefficient and measurement of it is efficient on transfusion.

Purpose: Impaired postural control has been reported in females with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). This study aimed to investigate a) differences in central sensory reception and integration abilities for postural control between older females with and without FMS, and b) the influence of a secondary cognitive task on postural control in altered sensory environments. Methods: The performances of 10 older females with FMS were compared to eight age-matched healthy females across single and dual task conditions using the Sensory Organization Test®. Results: No significant group differences were evident for Composite Equilibrium Score (CES) in the single task condition (p = 0.06) but a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.96) was obtained, suggesting a clinically relevant difference existed between groups with respect to general sensory reception and integration abilities. Single trial Equilibrium Scores (ESs) for both groups declined significantly in the more complex sensory conditions across both task conditions (p < 0.01) with a greater decline evident for the FMS group in sensory condition 4 in the dual-task condition (p = 0.04). The FMS group also experienced multiple falls in sensory conditions 5 and 6 across both task conditions with a significantly higher percentage of falls evident for the FMS group in condition 6 across both task conditions (p = 0.04). Conclusions: Overall postural stability was significantly lower in the FMS group when compared to an age-matched control group. Postural stability declined further in the FMS group when attempting to perform a secondary cognitive task in both sensory conditions that primarily relied on vestibular inputs for postural control. A greater focus on multisensory and dual-task training in a balance environment may benefit older females with FMS.
