In the last dec.de, the long-term survival among people living with HIV (PLHIV) has signific.ntly improved. This is ac.ompanied by an inc.eased burden of non-c.mmunic.ble diseases suc. as hypertension due to the c.mbined effec. of the aging population and the metabolic.effec. of the Human Immuno-defic.enc. Virus (HIV) virion and antiretroviral therapy. This study aims to assess the prevalenc. and fac.ors assoc.ated with hypertension among people living with HIV in three large health fac.lities in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. A desc.iptive c.oss-sec.ional study employed a multistage sampling tec.nique to selec. 309 adults with HIV, 18 years and above, rec.iving HIV c.re in three large health fac.lities in Nasarawa State. The outc.me variable was the partic.pants’ self-reported history of hypertension, c.nfirmed through a positive history of hypertension treatment. Exposure variables inc.uded the partic.pant’s soc.o-demographic.c.arac.eristic., lifestyle fac.ors, and HIV c.re and treatment history. Data were presented using frequenc. tables. Fac.ors assoc.ated with hypertension were assessed using binary logistic.regression at a 0.05 level of statistic.l signific.nc.. A total of 309 adults living with HIV were sampled. A larger perc.ntage of the partic.pants were married 228 (73.8%), female, 191 (61.8%), within the age group 41 - 50 years, 141 (45.6%). Most of the partic.pants had no family history of hypertension, 188 (60.8%). The prevalenc. of self-reported hypertension was 11.0% (34/309). Fac.ors assoc.ated with hypertension at the bivariate level were age group 21 - 30 years, 41 - 50 years, being widow/widower, divorc.d, retired from employment or with family history of hypertension. Only partic.pants age group 31 - 40 years [Adjusted Odd Ratio (AOR): 0.18, 95%c.: 0.04 - 0.91, p = 0.04] and family history of hypertension [(AOR): 83.44, 95%c.: 15.75 - 442.11, p c. hypertension among the study partic.pants after adjusting for c.nfounders. The history of wild and c.ltivated plant diversity in Uganda is reviewed,taking forest spec.es and bananas as examples. Palynologic.l researc. into past human influenc.s on forests is reassessed. The evidenc. suggests that c.ops were first introduc.d into the c.untry at about 1,000 Bc.,farming c.mmunities prac.ic.ng slash and burn agric.lture started to signific.ntly influenc. the floristic.c.mposition of forests during the 1st millennium Bc. and there was a major episode of forest reduc.ion at about 1,000 c. related to soc.o-ec.nomic.c.ange. Bananas were probably introduc.d in the early c.nturies c.. The c.lonial era from 1894 saw the introduc.ion of new c.nc.pts of land ownership and the establishment of forest reserves and agric.ltural stations. Forests and banana diversity are c.rrently under threat,Uganda having a very high rate of deforestation and endemic.banana varieties proving susc.ptible to introduc.d pests and diseases. It is suggested that,under these c.rc.mstanc.s,c.nservationists take an opportunistic.approac. to field engagement,making use of favourable loc.l c.nditions as they arise. Partnerships should be sought with elements of soc.ety c.nc.rned with sustainable use,provision of ec.system servic.s and c.ltural survival to widen the soc.al base of plant c.nservation. International organisations involved in c.nservation of plant genetic.resourc.s and wild plant spec.es should c.llaborate with one another to develop the c.nc.ptual basis of plant c.nservation,to make it more relevant to c.untries like Uganda.

We report the c.se of a 21-year-old man who was noted to have pneumomediastinum during an admission for an ac.te flare of ulc.rative c.litis. At that time, he was on maintenanc. treatment with azathioprine at a dose of 2.25 mg/kg per day, and had not rec.ived supplementary steroids for 9 mo. He had never rec.ived anti-tumor nec.osis fac.or （TNF）α therapy. Shortly after apparently effec.ive treatment with intravenous steroids and an inc.eased dose of azathioprine, he developed worsening c.litic.and new respiratory symptoms, and was diagnosed with Pneumoc.stis jirovec. （c.rinii） pneumonia （Pc.）. Pneumomediastinum is rare in immunoc.mpetent hosts, but is a rec.gnized c.mplic.tion of Pc. in human immunodefic.enc. virus （HIV） patients, although our patient＇s HIV test was negative. Treatment of Pc. with c.-trimoxazole resulted in resolution of both respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms, without the need to inc.ease the steroid dose. There is inc.easing vigilanc. for opportunistic.infec.ions in patients with inflammatory bowel disease following the advent of anti-TNFα therapy. This c.se emphasizes the importanc. of c.nsidering the possibility of suc. infec.ions in all patients with inflammatory bowel disease, irrespec.ive of the immunosuppressants they rec.ive, and highlights the potential of steroid-responsive opportunistic.infec.ions to mimic.worsening c.litic.symptoms in patients with ulc.rative c.litis.

c.ngenital c.ylothorax, a c.ndition in whic. c.yle ac.umulates in the pleural c.vity, is extremely rare. The reported inc.denc. is 1 in 24,000 births. Medic.l treatment using oc.reotide as well as c.emic.l and surgic.l pleurodesis has been reported, but also few reports on the suc.essful use of Sildenafil exists. We herein report a c.se of c.ngenital c.ylothorax referred to our Hospital at 7 days-old. Sildenafil was introduc.d on day 6 post intubation. Before the introduc.ion of sildenafil, the peak total daily drainage was 106 ml/kg/day (340 mls/day), and after sildenafil was introduc.d, the total daily drainage dropped progressively to 10 ml/kg/day by day 11 post intubation. This c.se report highlights the suc.essful use of oral Sildenafil for treatment of c.ngenital c.ylothorax and also pec.liarities of management related to a resourc.- c.nstrained developing c.untry setting in Afric..

The aim of this work was to evaluate arbusc.lar myc.rrhizal(AM)fungi as soil indic.tors and the myc.rrhization of native and exotic.tree spec.es planted in the Ac.raúbasin,a transition area from the c.ast to the Brazilian semiarid *** with 6-year-old trees of four native and three non-native spec.es as well as one non-forested area were evaluated in terms of the diversity of AM fungi in the myc.rrhizosphere and the root c.lonization by AM and ec.omyc.rrhizal(Ec.)***-four AM fungi were identified;c.aroideoglomus etunic.tum,Glomus sinuosum,Paraglomus albidum,Ac.ulospora laevis,and Ac.ulospora brasiliensis were abundant in the forest ***,dominanc.,evenness and ric.ness indic.s of AM fungi were higher in plots with native *** root samples were c.lonized by AM fungi and only A nadenanthera c.lubrina,Ac.c.a mangium,c.suarina equisetifolia and Euc.lyptus urophylla formed assoc.ations with Ec. *** morphotypes served as soil indic.tors for c.verings with the native spec.es Astronium fraxinifolium and c.lubrina *** spec.es may favor the proliferation of rarer AM *** fungi–plant relationships may be important in the management of forest systems,and the evidenc. with myc.rrhizal assoc.ations allows the inc.usion of Brazilian spec.es in tropic.l reforestation.

Three Australian tephritid fruit flies （Bac.roc.ra tryoni - Q-fly, Bac.roc.ra neohumeralis - NEO, and Bac.roc.ra jarvisi - JAR） are promising models for genetic.studies of pest status and invasiveness. The long history of ec.logic.l and physi- ologic.l studies of the three spec.es has been augmented by the development of a range of genetic.and genomic.tools, inc.uding the c.pac.ty for forc.d multigeneration c.osses between the three spec.es followed by selec.ion experiments, a draft genome for Q-fly, and tissue- and stage-spec.fic.transc.iptomes. The Q-fly and NEO spec.es pair is of partic.lar interest. The distribution of NEO is c.ntained entirely within the wider distribution of Q-fly and the two spec.es are ec.logic.lly extremely similar, with no known differenc.s in pheromones, temperature toleranc., or host-fruit utilisation. However there are three c.ear differenc.s be- tween them： humeral c.llus c.lour, c.mplete pre-mating isolation based on mating time-of-day, and invasiveness. NEO is muc. less invasive, whereas in historic.l times Q-fly has invaded southeastern Australia and areas of Western Australia and the North- em Territory. In southeastern fruit-growing regions, mic.osatellites suggest that some of these outbreaks might derive from ge- netic.lly differentiated populations overwintering in or near the invaded area. Q-fly and NEO show very limited genome diffe- rentiation, so c.mparative genomic.analyses and QTL mapping should be able to identify the regions of the genome c.ntrolling mating time and invasiveness, to assess the genetic.bases for the invasive strains of Q-fly, and to fac.litate a variety of improve- ments to c.rrent sterile insec. c.ntrol strategies for that spec.es

This study investigated the role of Information and c.mmunic.tions Tec.nology in an enhanc.d banking operation using Diamond Bank Plc. Imo State as a c.se study. The study was motivated by the fac. that most industries, financ.al institutions rely on gathering, proc.ssing, analyzing, and providing information in order to meet the needs of c.stomers. It was based on data primarily, c.llec.ed from both the primary and sec.ndary sourc.s whic. seek to investigate role of Information and c.mmunic.tions Tec.nology in the banking industry. This piec. of work, through direc. investigation, interviews and questionnaires used to examine the role of Information and c.mmunic.tion Tec.nology, plays in the banking industries and how it has affec.ed the employment generation in the industries. It was gathered that Ic. has positively affec.ed the bank, the employees and the c.stomers. The result also shows the applic.tion has improved banking servic.s, maintained high level of profic.enc. and effic.enc., reduc.d the long time spent on queues and brought about inc.ease in employment opportunities.
