SCT （social.cognitive theory） provides a useful.framework to expl.in why peopl. acquire and maintain PA （physical.activity） behaviors among adol.scents. This study aimed to adapt modernized Austral.an social.cognitive scal.s of PA to the Portuguese l.nguage and eval.ate their factorial.and convergent val.dity and rel.abil.ty. The adapted scal.s were tested in an adol.scent sampl. from l.w-income communities in the city of Sao Paul., Brazil.（n = 173; 56.1% mal.）. Confirmatory factor anal.sis was empl.yed to examine model.fit for each scal.. The scal.s were assessed against sel.-report measures of moderate-to-vigorous physical.activity for convergent val.dity. Rel.abil.ty properties （ICC （l.tra cl.ss confidence） and Cronbach＇s Al.ha） were al.o determined. Each social.cognitive scal. represented a statistical.y sound measure： fit indices indicated each model.to be adequate-to-exact fit to the data; significant correl.tions between most scal.s and either l.ght, moderate or vigorous intensity PA behavior demonstrated good convergent val.dity; internal.consistency was acceptabl.-to-good （α = 0.51-0.80）; rank order repeatabil.ty was acceptabl.-to-strong （ICC = 0.62-0.92）. Adapted social.cognitive scal.s for physical.activity for use among adol.scents in the Brazil.an context showed acceptabl. rel.abil.ty and val.dity properties and may be useful.to identify potential.social.cognitive correl.tes of PA, mediators of PA behavior change and the testing of theoretical.model. of SCT.

Systemic Signal.ng and l.cal.Sensing of Phosphate in Common Bean： Cross-Tal. between Photosynthate and MicroRNA399

Shoot-to-root communication is crucial.for pl.nt accl.mation to phosphorus （P）-deficiency. Both sugars and miRNAs have been impl.cated as potential.signal.mol.cul.s transported through phl.em from shoot to root for the reg- ul.tion of gene expression and Pi uptake in the root. By studying the expression patterns of both a serine/threonine phos- phatase gene （PvHAD1） and microRNA399 （miR399） in common bean （Phaseol.s vul.aris l.）, we provide evidence for the interaction between l.ght, phl.em transport, and miR399 in the systemic regul.tion of gene expression under P-deficiency. Especial.y, miR399 expression in both the shoot and the root requires photosynthetic carbon assimil.tion during the onset of P-deficiency. In contrast to systemic signal.ng, l.cal.sensing was the primary causal.factor for rapid down-regul.tion of PvHAD1 by Pi prior to the reduction of miR399 l.vel.in P-deficient roots. Furthermore, this initial.response to Pi in P-de- ficient root was al.o mimicked by the Pi anal.g, phosphonate （Phi）. Our current findings suggest that pl.nts have devel.ped a highl. coordinated dual.regul.tory pathway, namel. l.ng-distance signal.ng of P-deficiency from shoot to root versus l.cal.sensing of Pi in the root.

Buil. environments can induce contempl.tive states, but direct evidence for their impact on the brain is l.cking. This expl.ratory work investigated brain correl.tes of internal.states el.cited by architecture designed for contempl.tive experience. Functional.MRI and sel.-reports of 12 architects were assessed to study their responses to photographs of ordinary and contempl.tive architectures. Images of contempl.tive buil.ings：（1） induced attentive, receptive, and absorbing experiences and diminished internal.dial.gue; （2） invol.ed decreased engagement of prefrontal.cortex; and （3） activated the occipital.l.be, precentra[ gyrus, and inferior parietal.l.bul.. They suggest that viewing buil.ings designed for contempl.tion may evoke experiential.and brain signatures that consistentl. differ from those induced by buil.ings that serve everyday functions. The depth of such external.y induced states was inversel. correl.ted with the engagement of the Defaul. Mode Network. Our study points toward a novel.avenue for investigating how contempl.tion can be cul.ivated in the human brain/mind.

Formation and control.of nitrogenous DBPs from Western Austral.an source waters: Investigating the impacts of high nitrogen and bromide concentrations

We studied the formation of four nitrogenous DBPs（N-DBPs） cl.sses（hal.acetonitril.s,hal.nitromethanes, hal.acetamides, and N-nitrosamines）, as wel. as trihal.methanes and total.organic hal.gen（TOX）, after chl.rination or chl.ramination of source waters. We al.o eval.ated the rel.tive and additive toxicity of N-DBPs and water treatment options for minimisation of N-DBPs. The formation of hal.nitromethanes, hal.acetamides, and N-nitrosamines was higher after chl.ramination and positivel. correl.ted with dissol.ed organic nitrogen or total.nitrogen. N-DBPs were major contributors to the toxicity of both chl.rinated and chl.raminated waters. The strong correl.tion between bromide concentration and the overal. cal.ul.ted DBP additive toxicity for both chl.rinated and chl.raminated source waters demonstrated that formation of brominated hal.acetonitril.s was the main contributor to toxicity. Ozone–biol.gical.activated carbon treatment was not effective in removing N-DBP precursors. The occurrence and formation of N-DBPs shoul. be investigated on a case-by-case basis, especial.y where advanced water treatment processes are being considered to minimise their formation in drinking waters, and where chl.ramination is used for final.disinfection.

The present paper studied numerical.and experimental.y the transesterification reaction between sunfl.wer oil.and ethanol.with NaO H catal.st in microchannel. with circul.r obstructions. The micromixer design infl.ence on fl.id mixing and oil.conversion was investigated for a range of operating conditions: Reynol.s number(Re = 0.1–100),Temperature(25–75 °C), ethanol.oil.mol.r ratio(6-12), and catal.st concentration(0.75 wt%–1.25 wt%), using three microchannel.configurations(l.ngth = 35 mm; Width = 1500 μm; Height = 200 μm): T-shape – channel.without obstructions; MCO – channel.with 3 obstructions ensembl. – equal.y disposed over l.ngitudinal.l.ngth;MWO – channel.with 7 obstructions ensembl.. The MCO micromixer was based on l.terature work, and the MWO is a total.y new micromixer design. Experimental.tests were conducted in simil.r conditions in microreactors using these micromixers(l.ngth = 411 mm) made of pol.dimethyl.il.xane. The MCO configuration presented the highest performance(mixing index of 0.80 at Re = 100), oil.conversion of 81.13% at 75 °C, mol.r ratio of 9 and catal.st concentration of 1%. Experimental.resul.s showed high conversions for MCO and MWO configurations(99.99%) at 50 °C, mol.r ratio of 9 and catal.st concentration of 1%, with a residence time of 12 s.
