The embedded cantilever retaining walls are often required for excavation to construct the undergroundfacilities. Significant numbers of numerical and experimental studies have been performed to understand the behavior ofembedded cantilever retaining walls under static condition. However, very limited studies have been conducted on thebehavior of embedded retaining walls under seismic condition. In this paper, the behavior of a small scale modelembedded cantilever retaining wall in dry and saturated sand under seismic loading condition is investigated by shaketable tests in the laboratory and numerically using software FLAC2D. The embedded cantilever walls are subjected tosinusoidal dynamic motions. The behaviors of the cantilever walls in terms of lateral displacement and bending momentare studied with the variation of the two important design parameters, peak amplitude of the base motions and excavationdepth. The variation of the pore water pressures within the sand is also observed in the cases of saturated sand. Themaximum lateral displacement of a cantilever wall due to seismic loading is below 1% of the total height of the wall in drysand, but in case of saturated sand, it can go up to 12.75% of the total height of the wall.

The behavior of braced excavation in dry sand under a seismic condition is investigated in this paper.A series of shake table tests on a reduced scale model of a retaining wall with one level of bracing were conducted to study the effect of different design parameters such as excavation depth,acceleration amplitude and wall *** analyses using FLAC 2D were also performed considering one level of *** strut forces,lateral displacements and bending moments in the wall at the end of earthquake motion were compared with experimental *** study showed that in a post-seismic condition,when other factors were constant,lateral displacement,bending moment,strut forces and maximum ground surface displacement increased with excavation depth and the amplitude of base *** study also showed that as wall stiffness decreased,the lateral displacement of the wall and ground surface displacement increased,but the bending moment of the wall and strut forces *** net earth pressure behind the walls was influenced by excavation depth and the peak acceleration amplitude,but did not change significantly with wall *** force was the least affected parameter when compared with others under a seismic condition.

Fluidized beds with multiple jets have widespread industrial applications. The objective of this paper is to investigate the jet interactions and hydrodynamics of a fluidized bed with multiple jets. Discrete element modeling coupled with in-house CFD code GenlDLEST has been used to simulate a bed with nine jets. The results are compared with published experiments. Mono dispersed particles of size 550 ~m are used with 1.4 times the minimum fluidization velocity of the particles. Both two and three dimensional computations have been performed. To the best of our knowledge, the results presented in this paper are the first full 3D simulations of a fluidized bed performed with multiple jets. Discrepancies between the experiment and simulations are discussed in the context of the dimensionality of the simulations. The 2D solid fraction profile compares well with the experiment close to the distributor plate. At higher heights, the 2D simulation over-predicts the solid fraction profiles near the walls. The 3D simulation on the other hand is better able to capture the solid fraction profile higher up in the bed compared to that near the distributor plate. Similarly, the normalized particle velocities and the particle fluxes compare well with the experiment closer to the distributor plate for the 2D simulation and the freeboard for the 3D simulation, respectively. A lower expanded bed height is predicted in the 2D simulation compared to the 3D simulation and the experiment. The results obtained from DEM computations show that a 2D simulation can be used to capture essential jetting trends near the distributor plate regions, whereas a full scale 3D simulation is needed to capture the bubbles near the freeboard regions. These serve as validations for the experiment and help us understand the complex jet interaction and solid circulation patterns in a multiple jet fluidized bed system.

This study explores the influence of infill patterns on machine acceleration prediction in the realm of three-dimensional(3D)printing,particularly focusing on extrusion *** primary objective was to develop a long short-term memory(LSTM)network capable of assessing this *** conducted an extensive analysis involving 12 distinct infill patterns,collecting time-series data to examine their effects on the acceleration of the printer’s *** LSTM network was trained using acceleration data from the adaptive cubic infill pattern,while the Archimedean chords infill pattern provided data for evaluating the network’s prediction *** involved utilizing offline time-series acceleration data as the training and testing datasets for the LSTM ***,the LSTM model was devised to predict the acceleration of a fused deposition modeling(FDM)printer using data from the adaptive cubic infill *** testing yielded a root mean square error(RMSE)of 0.007144,reflecting the model’s *** refinement and testing of the LSTM model were conducted using acceleration data from the Archimedean chords infill pattern,resulting in an RMSE of ***,the developed LSTM model demonstrated superior performance compared to an optimized recurrent neural network(RNN)in predicting machine acceleration *** empirical findings highlight that the adaptive cubic infill pattern considerably influences the dimensional accuracy of parts printed using FDM technology.

Evolving provenance in the Proterozoic Pranhita-Godavari Basin,India

The Pranhita-Godavari Basin in central eastern India is one of the Proterozoic ＂Purana＂ basins of cratonic India. New geochronology demonstrates that it has a vast depositional history of repeated basin reactivation from the Palaeoproterozoic to the Mesozoic. U-Pb laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry dating of detrital zircons from two samples of the Somanpalli Group--a member of the oldest sedimentary cycle in the valley--constrains its depositional age to - 1620 Ma and demonstrates a tripartite age provenance with peaks at - 3500 Ma, - 2480 Ma and - 1620 Ma, with minor age peaks in the Eoarchaean （ - 3.8 Ga） and at - 2750 Ma. These ages are consistent with palaeocurrent data suggesting a southerly source from the Krishna Province and Enderby Land in East Antarctica. The similarity in the maximum depositional age with previously published autbigenic glauconite ages suggest that the origin of the Pranhita-Godvari Graben originated as a rift that formed at a high angle to the coeval evolving late Meosproterozoic Krishna Province as Enderby Land collided with the Dharwar craton of India. In contrast, detrital zircons from the Cycle III Sullavai Group red sandstones yielded a maximum depositional age of 970 - 20 Ma and had age peaks of -2550 Ma, -1600 Ma and then a number of Mesoproterozoic detrital zircons terminating in three analyses at - 970 Ma. The provenance of these is again consistent with a southerly source from the Eastern Ghats Orogen and Antarctica. Later cycles of deposition include the overlying Albaka/Usur Formations and finally the late Palaeozoic to Mesozoic Gondwana Supergroup.

Minerals are now being extracted from deep mines due to drying up of resource in shallow ground. The need for suitable supports and ground control mechanisms for safe mining necessitates proper pillar design with filling technology. In addition, high horizontal stress may cause collapse of hanging wall and footwall rocks, hence designing of suitable crown pillars is absolutely necessary for imposing overall safety of the stopes. This paper provides a methodology for the evaluation of the required thickness of crown pillars for safe operation at depth ranging from 600 m to 1000 m. Analyses are conducted with the results of 108 non-linear numerical models considering Drucker-Prager material model in plane strain condition. Material properties of ore body rock and thickness of crown pillars are varied and safety factors of pillars estimated. Then, a generalized statistical relationship between the safety factors of crown pillars with the various input parameters is developed. The developed multivariate regression model is utilized for generating design/stability charts of pillars for different geo-mining *** design charts can be used for the design of crown pillar thickness with the depth of the working,taking into account the changes of the rock mass conditions in underground metal mine.
