Insight into Genetic Diversity of Cultivated Lima Bean (Phaseolus lunatus L.) in Benin

Lima bean is a tropical and subtropical legume from the genus Phaseolus which is cultivated for its importance in food and in medicine, but which remains a neglected and Underutilized Crop in Benin. Understanding the genetic diversity of a species’ genetic resources is useful for the establishment of appropriate conservation strategies and breeding programs and for sustainable use. We use 6 out of ten SSR markers to analyze the diversity and population structure of 28 Lima bean landraces collected in Benin. A total of 28 alleles with an average of 4.16 alleles per SSR were amplified. The Polymorphic Information Content value ranged from 0.079 to 0.680 with an average of 0.408. The analysis of population structure revealed three subpopulations. PCoA revealed three well-separated clusters among the analyzed accessions in accordance with the population structure results and the clustering based on the neighbor-Joining tree. AMoVA showed highly significant (p = 0.001) diversity among and within populations. Hence, 32% of the genetic variation was distributed among the population and 68% was distributed within populations. A high PhiP value (0.321) was found between the three sub-subpopulations indicating a high genetic differentiation between these sub-subpopulations. By exhibiting the highest average number of alleles, Shannon-Weaver information and Shannon-Weaver diversity indices, and the highest mean number of private alleles, subpopulation 1 is the main gene pool of the analyzed collection. The present study is an important starting point for the establishment of appropriate conservation strategies and breeding programs for Lima bean genetic resources.

Diagnosis of pancreatic tumors by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration

AIM: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fi ne-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) for pancreatic solid tumors larger or smaller than 3 cm, and cystic lesions. METHoDS: From January/1997 to december/2006, 611 patients with pancreatic tumors were subjected to EUS-FNA. The fi nal diagnosis was obtained either by surgery (356 cases) or after a mean clinical follow-up of 11.8 mo in the remaining patients. RESULTS: There were 405 solid tumors, 189 cystic lesions and 17 mixed. Pancreatic specimens for cytological assessment were successfully obtained by EUS-FNA in 595 (97.4/) cases. There were 352 (57.6/) malignancies and 259 (42.4/) benign tumors. Among the malignancies, pancreatic adenocarcinomas accounted for 67/ of the lesions. overall, the sensitivity, specifi city, positive and negative predictive values, and accuracy of EUS-FNA were, respectively, 78.4/, 99.2/, 99.3/, 77.2/ and 87.2/. Specif ically for solid tumors, the same parameters for neoplasms larger and smaller than 3 cm were, respectively, 78.8/ vs 82.4/, 100/ vs 98.4/, 100/ vs 99/, 54.8/ vs 74.1/ and 83.1/ vs 87.8/. For cystic lesions, the values were, respectively, 72.2/, 99.3/, 97.5/, 91/ and 92.2/. CoNCLUSIoN: EUS-FNA can be used to sample pancreatic tumors in most patients. Even though the negative predictive value is inadequate for large solid tumors, the results are rather good for small solid tumors, especially concerning the sensitivity, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy. Among all pancreatic lesions, EUS-FNA for cystic lesions canreveal the best negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy, both higher than 90/.

AIM:To develop and validate a transient micro-elastography device to measure liver stiffness(LS) in ***:A novel transient micro-elastography(TME) device,dedicated to LS measurements in mice with a range of measurement from 1-170 kPa,was developed using an optimized vibration frequency of 300 Hz and a 2 mm *** novel probe was validated in a classical fibrosis model(CCl4) and in a transgenic murine model of systemic ***:TME could be successfully performed in control mice below the xiphoid cartilage,with a mean LS of 4.4 ± 1.3 kPa,a mean success rate of 88%,and an excellent intra-observer agreement(0.98).Treatment with CCl4 over seven weeks drastically increased LS as compared to controls(18.2 ± 3.7 kPa vs 3.6 ± 1.2 kPa).Moreover,fibrosis stage was highly correlated with LS(Spearman coefficient = 0.88,P oidosis model,much higher LS values were obtained,reaching maximum values of > 150 *** significantly correlated with the amyloidosis index(0.93,P oncentration of mutant hapoA-□(0.62,P oNCLUSIoN:Here,we have established the first non-invasive approach to measure LS in mice,and have successfully validated it in two murine models of high LS.

Lannea kerstingii is known for its multiple therapeutic and biological activities. despite of many traditional uses of this plant, scientific research on the content of its chemical compounds is still limited. This study aims to isolate the chemical compounds contained in the n-butanol fraction of Lannea kerstingii leaves. The chemical investigation of the leaves of Lannea kerstingii led to isolation of three undescribed C-13 norisoprenoids, lankerstinol A-C (1-3), together with six (4-9) known flavonoid glycosides. The structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic analyses.

MINoCA Resulting from Coronary Spasm Confirmed Angiographically without Ergonovine Stimulation: A Case Report

Introduction: Myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries disease (MINoCA) encompasses a heterogeneous group of disorders. Multimodality imaging is crucial to figure out the underlying mechanism. Coronary artery spasm is a common cause of MINoCA and might be difficult to identify. Case Presentation: A 43-year-old male with no cardiovascular risk factor presented with prolonged acute chest pain at 5 am that resolved spontaneously. on admission, he was asymptomatic and clinical findings were unremarkable. The electrocardiogram showed an anterolateral negative T wave. The troponin was positive. Coronary angiography (CA) revealed a moderate lesion of the proximal left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery. He was treated with dual antiplatelet therapy, statin, and beta-blocker with a favourable hospital course. one week later, he presented chest pain recurrences with anterior ST-segment elevation. CA, without intra-radial nitrate, owing to a vasospasm suspicion, showed a sub-occlusion of the proximal LAD which resolved after intracoronary nitrates. Chest pain and ST-segment elevation then disappeared. He remained asymptomatic and was discharged on CCB (calcium channel blocker), long-acting nitrates dual antiplatelet and statin. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) demonstrated an ejection fraction (EF) of 45% with anterior ischemia. Conclusion: our case is about a common cause of MINoCA, namely coronary spasm, diagnosed by coronary angiogram without provocative test.

objective: The use of animal models of aortic stenosis(AS) remains essential to further elucidate its pathophysiology and to evaluate new therapeutic strategies. The waved-2 mouse AS model has been proposed;data have indicated that while aortic regurgitation(AR) is effectively induced, development of AS is *** aimed to evaluate the effect of high-fat diet(HFD) and vitamin D_3 supplementation in this ***: HFD and subcutaneous vitamin D_3 injections were initiated at the age of 6 weeks until the age of 6(n = 16, 6-month treatment group) and 9(n = 11, 9-month treatment group) months. Twelve waved-2 mice without supplementation were used as control. Echocardiography was performed at 3, 6 and 9 months. Blood serum analysis(calcium, 1,25(oH)_2D_3 and cholesterol), histology and immunohistochemistry(CD-31, CD-68 and osteopontin) were evaluated at the end of the experiment(6 or 9 months).Results: Total cholesterol and 1,25(oH)_2D_3 were significantly increased relative to the control group. HFD and vitamin D_3 supplementation did result in improvements to the model, since AS was only detected in 6(15.3%) mice(2 in the 3 groups) and AR was developed in the remaining animals. Echocardiographic parameters, fibrosis, thickness, inflammation and valvular calcification, were not significantly different between the 6-month treatment and control groups. Similar results were also observed in the 9-month treatment ***: These results suggest that HFD and vitamin D_3 supplementation have no effect in the waved-2 mouse model. This model essentially mimics AR and rarely AS. Further studies are needed to find a reliable animal model of AS.
