Preliminary control of the air entrainment in bow wave based on the Liutex force method

Trails induced by air entrainment of bow wave breaking can be observed clearly around an advancing ship,making it prong to be detected and causing reduction in hydrodynamic performance.In breaking bow wave region,different scale of coherent vortex structures related closely to the air entrainment are generated.The formation and evolution of bubble clouds can be accounted partly by the swirling vortex flow of the jet plunging.In this work,high-fidelity simulation of the bow wave breaking around a rectangular thin plate is performed with the in-house code BAMR-SJTU.A Liutex force model is constructed to investigate the interaction between the free surface and vortices,and to explore the possibility of alleviating or controlling the air entrainment.This study is the first attempt to manipulate vortices corresponding to the air entrainment of the bow wave breaking.Some typical vortex structures based on the Liutex vortex identification method and the distribution of the vortex force are presented.Comparison of the vortex structures and the entrapped bubbles is conducted to illustrate the efficiency of Liutex force model in air entrainment control.

As a versatile star product,poly(viny chloride)(PVC)has kept active in our dily lif all through since it was invented.However,the severe fire hazard andheavy smoke produced during combustion,particularly the extensively used flexible PC product,have been putzig manufacturers and researchers forages.Over the last decade,multifarious ftame retardants and smoke suppressants were developed for PVC materias.n this review combined literaturewith the results based on the research from our group,recent emerged fame retardants and smoke suppressants for PVC are introduced.Meanwhile,theflame retardant mechanisms and experimental analysis resuts are described to understand the relationship between characters of fame retardants (in-cluding chemical compositions,structures or morphologies)and fire performance of the composites.The potential substitutes for traditional harmfulflame retardant antimony trioxide are discussed aiming to the emphasis on increasing prominent environmental concerns.ln partcular,one section isdedicated to new approaches for the preparation of novel environmentally friendly and high-effciency fame retardants.is hoped that ths review wilnot only summarine the new emerged fame retardants and smoke suppressants for PVC,but also provide the new trend to prompt sequent explorationin both academic research and industrial application.

Few single-molecule experiments have enabled the direct imaging of functional biomacromolecules in real-time in their native liquid environments,resolving their conformational adaptations,transient interactions,and intermediate states.Liquid phase electron microscopy(LP-EM),due to its unique combination of spatial and temporal resolution,has shown to be a promising tool.Recent experiments have enabled successful imaging of intact structures of organic molecules and biological systems with an ordinary electron microscope.Adapting image processing methods and quantitative data analysis from single particle experiments based on the optical microscope,quantifying motion and relaxation of these interacting molecules allows the experimental observations of pathways,to test theoretical predictions,and discovery of new mechanisms.Combining LP-EM with tomography,fluorescence,and mass spectroscopy allows for probing multi-dimensional structural and dynamic information.Challenges remain in obtaining high-quality data in large quantities,which can be improved by developing new liquid cell platforms and machine learning-based data analysis.

In this paper,numerical simulation is conducted via our in-house solver,vim-FOAM-SJTU,developed on open-source software,OpenFOAM.Flow around static rigid cylinders and elastically mounted rigid cylinder constrained to free stream with free end are numerically investigated.Some significant conclusions are made by analyzing the different results between cases with and without free end.The turbulence model is implemented with a shear stress transport-based(SST-based)improved delayed detached eddy simulation(IDdeS)approach in the vim-FOAM-SJTU.Firstly,The paper starts with the application of the vim-FOAM-SJTU solver to flow past fixed cylinder with free end at Reynolds number 43000.The numerical results are compared with experimental data.Comparison are satisfactory which implies the validity and accuracy of the current computational fluid dynamics(CFD)solver.The flow visualization in the vicinity of free-end is discussed.Subsequently,the solver is utilized to simulate the free end effect associated with the VIM of a cylinder submerged in current.The motion responses under different inflow velocities are studied.The relationship between transverse motion frequency,in-line motion frequency is discussed.Lastly,the effect of the free end on the vortex of the wake field is analyzed by comparing the 3-D vorticity diagrams of the free end cylinder.The responses of circular cylinder with or without free end are compared.

Hepatobiliary malignancies are highly heterogeneous with poor prognosis and drug response [1]. It is difficult to diagnose at an early stage. Hence, precise molecular targets are urgently needed to improve the diagnose efficacy and individual treatment response. However, reliable biomarkers that can predict the individual treatment response are still lacking. With the broad application of high-throughput sequencing technology and bioinformatics analysis in scientific research, increasing numbers of diagnosing molecular targets will be found and tested. Such bioinformatics will provide a more rational way to diagnose, prevent, and treat hepatobiliary cancers [2].

Considered as the building blocks,vortex structures with variety of sizes and intensity are widely recognized in the viscous flow field around ship.In this paper,the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)solver,naoe-FOAM-SJTU,coupled with delayed detached-eddy simulation(DdeS)is adopted to analyze the vortex structures around the benchmark model Yupeng Ship in dynamic pure yaw tests,which are captured by third generation of vortex identification method.The good agreement of the predicted force/moment by DdeS method with the experimental data indicates that the present numerical schemes are reliable and robust.Three vortex identification methods,Q-criteria,Ω_(R) and Liutex,are used to capture the vortex structures around the hull.The large separated flow is able to be investigated by these three methods,in which more vortex structures are captured byΩ_(R) approach and Liutex method with scalar,vector and tensor form seems to be more suitable for analyzing the flow mechanism around the hull in dynamic pure yaw test.In general,each vortex structure corresponds to a dominant positive/negative axial Liutex and a bound vortex pair.The streamlines are spiral in the large separated flow,indicating that the flow in corresponding region is rotational.But the rotation of the flow is not directly related to the intensity of Liutex.

High flammability of polymers has become a major issue which has restricted its applications.Recently,highly crystalline materials and metal–organic frameworks(MOFs),which consisted of metal ions and organic linkers,have been intensively employed as novel fire retardants(FRs)for a variety of polymers(MOF/polymer).The MOFs possessed abundant transition metal species,fire-retardant elements and potential carbon source accompanied with the facile tuning of the structure and property,making MOF,its derivatives and MOF hybrids promising for fire retardancy research.The recent progress and strategies to prepare MOF-based FRs are emphasized and summarized.The fire retardancy mechanisms of MOF/polymer composites are explained,which may guide the future design for efficient MOF-based FRs.Finally,the challenges and prospects related to different MOFbased FRs are also discussed and aim to provide a fast and holistic overview,which is beneficial for researchers to quickly get up to speed with the latest development in this field.

Evaluation of the osseointegration of dental implants coated with calcium carbonate:an animal study

In an attempt to overcome the limitations of titanium in dental and orthopaedic clinical applications, a new method has been developed to prepare calcium carbonate coatings on sandblasted and acid-etched （SA） titanium implants. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of calcium carbonate-SA （CC-SA） implants on osseointegration in vivo. The surfaces of SA and CC-SA implants were characterised for surface morphology and surface chemistry. Subsequently, these two kinds of implants were implanted in the femoral condyles of rabbits. The implants were retrieved and prepared for histological and histomorphometric evaluation 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after implantation. Significantly higher values of bone-to-implant contact of the entire implant except the gap area （BIC_ALL） and the bone-to-implant contact of the gap area （BIC_GAP） were found in animals with the CC-SA implants than in those with the SA implants at 4 weeks. Higher values of total gap bone were found in those with the CC-SA implants than in those with the SA implants at 1, 2 and 4 weeks. In conclusion, the current findings demonstrate that the calcium carbonate coating can improve and accelerate the early ingrowth of bone and osseointegration at the early healine phase. This may reduce clinical healinE times and thus improve implant success rates.

Effect of Organo-Modified Nanosepiolite on Fire Behaviors and Mechanical Performance of Polypropylene Composites

The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of the organo-modified nanosepiolite(ONSep)on improving the fire safety of polypropylene(PP).The composites based on PP,flame retardant master batch(MB-FR,25 wt%PP+50 wt%decabromodiphenyl ether(DBDPE)+25%antimony trioxide(ATO))and ONSep were prepared via melt blending.The results of the limiting oxygen index(LOI)and vertical burning rating(UL-94)test indicated that PP/40 wt%MB composites had no rating with seriously dripping phenomenon,while the LOI value was only 22.5.However,as 4 wt%ONSep was added in PP/40 wt%MB composites,the composites achieved UL94 V-0 rating and the LOI value was 24.3.In comparison,PP/50 wt%MB composites could not reach the V-0 rating either.The TGA results revealed that the addition of ONSep enhanced the thermal stability of the PP/MB-FR composites.The cone calorimeter results indicated that the heat release rate,average mass loss rate,smoke production rate and smoke temperature of the PP/40 wt%MB-FR/4 wt%ONSep composites decreased in comparison with those of PP/40 wt%MB-FR composites.Simultaneously,the Young modulus and impact strength were also much better improved with the increase of ONSep loading.Therefore,the synergistic flame retardancy of ONSep in PP/MB-FR matrix significantly containing a halogen based flame retardant(DBDPE)significantly improved the fire safety and mechanical properties of the composites,and allowed to decrease the total amount of brominated fire retardants.
