Combined analysis of imaging tumor capsule with imaging tumor size guides the width of resection margin for solitary hepatocellular carcinoma

Background:The optimal width of resection margin(RM)for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)remains controversial.This study aimed to investigate the value of imaging tumor capsule(ITC)and imaging tu-mor size(ITS)in guiding RM width for patients with HCC.Methods:Patients who underwent hepatectomy for HCC in our center were retrospectively reviewed.ITC(complete/incomplete)and ITS(≤3 cm/>3 cm)were assessed by preoperative magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Using subgroup analyses based on ITC and ITS,the impact of RM width[narrow RM(de RM(≥5 mm)]on recurrence-free survival(RFS),overall survival(OS),and RM recurrence was analyzed.Results:A total of 247 patients with solitary HCC were included.ITC and ITS were independent predictors for RFS and OS in the entire cohort.In patients with ITS≤3 cm,neither ITC nor RM width showed a significant impact on prognosis,and the incidence of RM recurrence was comparable between the narrow RM and wide RM groups(15.6%vs.4.3%,P=0.337).In patients with ITS>3 cm and complete ITC,the narrow RM group exhibited comparable RFS,OS,and incidence of RM recurrence with the wide RM group(P=0.606,0.916,and 0.649,respectively).However,in patients with ITS>3 cm and incomplete ITC,the wide RM group showed better RFS and OS and a lower incidence of RM recurrence compared with the narrow RM group(P=0.037,0.018,and 0.046,respectively).Conclusions:As MRI-based preoperative markers,conjoint analysis of ITC with ITS aids in determining RM width for solitary HCC patients.Narrow RM is applicable in patients with ITS≤3 cm regardless of ITC status and in those with ITS>3 cm and complete ITC.Wide RM is preferred in those with ITS>3 cm and incomplete ITC.

Recovery of titanium and vanadium from titanium–vanadium slag obtained by direct reduction of titanomagnetite concentrates

A process of NaOH molten salt roasting-water leaching to treat titanium-vanadium slag obtained by direct reduction of titanomagnetite concentrates was investigated.X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS), and thermogravimetry-differential scanning calorimetry(TG-DSC) techniques were used to characterize the samples. The results show that anosovite(Mg_(x)Ti_(3-x)O_(5))and clinopyroxene [Ca(Ti,MgAl)(SiAl)_(2)O_(6)] are the major phases of titanium-vanadium slag. In the NaOH molten salt roasting process, titanium is converted to intermediate product Na_(2)TiO_(3) and vanadium is converted to water-soluble vanadate. The response surface methodology(RSM) was used to optimize the roasting process conditions. NaOH to slag mass ratio(N/S) and roasting temperature are the main influential factors. Under the optimal roasting conditions,i.e., roasting temperature of 550℃, N/S of 1.20, and roasting time of 80 min, the conversions of titanium and vanadium are 96.5 % and 93.0 %, respectively. In the water leaching process, Na_(2)TiO_(3) is converted to amorphous structure of H_(2)TiO_(3) since Na^(+)is exchanged with H^(+). Up to 93.0 % vanadium is leached out under the optimal leaching conditions. Titanium and vanadium in the titanium-vanadium slag can be separated and then recovered.

A method for recovery of iron,titanium,and vanadium from vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite

An innovative method for recovering valuable elements from vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite is proposed. This method involves two procedures： low-temperature roasting of vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite and water leaching of roasting slag. During the roasting process, the reduction of iron oxides to metallic iron, the sodium oxidation of vanadium oxides to water-soluble sodium vanadate, and the smelting separation of metallic iron and slag were accomplished simultaneously. Optimal roasting conditions for iron/slag separation were achieved with a mixture thickness of 42.5 mm, a roasting temperature of 1200°C, a residence time of 2 h, a molar ratio of C/O of 1.7, and a sodium carbonate addition of 70 wt%, as well as with the use of anthracite as a reductant. Under the optimal conditions, 93.67% iron from the raw ore was recovered in the form of iron nugget with 95.44% iron grade. After a water leaching process, 85.61% of the vanadium from the roasting slag was leached, confirming the sodium oxidation of most of the vanadium oxides to water-soluble sodium vanadate during the roasting process. The total recoveries of iron, vanadium, and titanium were 93.67%, 72.68%, and 99.72%, respectively.

A novel process for the recovery of iron,titanium,and vanadium from vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite:sodium modification–direct reduction coupled process

A sodium modification–direct reduction coupled process was proposed for the simultaneous extraction of V and Fe from vanadium- bearing titanomagnetite. The sodium oxidation of vanadium oxides to water-soluble sodium vanadate and the transformation of iron oxides to metallic iron were accomplished in a single-step high-temperature process. The increase in roasting temperature favors the reduction of iron oxides but disfavors the oxidation of vanadium oxides. The recoveries of vanadium, iron, and titanium reached 84.52%, 89.37%, and 95.59%, respectively. Moreover, the acid decomposition efficiency of titanium slag reached 96.45%. Compared with traditional processes, the novel process provides several advantages, including a shorter flow, a lower energy consumption, and a higher utilization efficiency of vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite resources. ? 2017, University of Science and Technology Beijing and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Genetic diversity and phylogenetic analysis of EG95 sequences of Echinococcus granulosus:Implications for EG95 vaccine application

Objective:To analyse the genetic variability of EG95 sequences and provide guidance for EG95 vaccine application against Echinococcus granulosus(E. granulosus). Methods:We analysed EG95 polymorphism by collecting total 97 different E. granulosus isolates from 12 different host species that originated from 10 different countries. Multiple sequence alignments and the homology were performed by Lasergene 1(DNASTAR Inc.,Madison,WI),and the phylogenetic analysis was performed by using MEGA5.1(CEMI,Tempe,AZ,USA). In addition,linear and conformational epitopes were analysed,including secondary structure,NXT/S glycosylation,fibronectin type ecoⅢ(Fnndary Ⅲ) domain and glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor signal(GPIanchor). The s structure was predicted by PSIPRED method. Results:Our results indicated that most isolates overall shared 72.6-100% identity in EG95 gene sequence with the published standard EG95 sequence,X90928. However,EG95 gene indeed has polymorphism in different isolates. Phylogenetic analysis showed that different isolates could be divided into three subgroups. Subgroup 1 contained 87 isolates while Subgroup 2 and Subgroup 3 consisted of 3 and 7 isolates,respectively. Four sequences cloned from oncosphere shared a high identity with the parental sequence of the current vaccine,X90928,and they belonged to Subgroup 1. However,in comparison to X90928,several amino acid mutations occurred in most isolates besides oncosphere,which potentially altered the immunodominant linear epitopes,glycosylation sites and secondary structures in EG95 genes. All these variations might change their previous antigenicity and thereby affecting the efficacy of current EG95 vaccine. Conclusions:This study reveals the genetic variability of EG95 sequences in different E. granulosus isolates,and proposed that more vaccination trials would be needed to test the effectiveness of current EG95 vaccine against distinct isolates in different countries.

Response characteristics of PWR primary circuit under SBLOCAs considering steam bypass discharging

Small-break superposed station blackout(SBO)accidents are the basic design accidents of nuclear power plants.Under the condition of a small break in the cold leg,SBO further increases the severity of the accident,and the steam bypass discharg-ing system(GCT)in the second circuit can play an important role in guaranteeing core safety.To explore the influence of the GCT on the thermal-hydraulic characteristics of the primary circuit,RELAP5 software was used to establish a numerical model based on a typical pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant.Five different small breaks in the cold-leg super-posed SBO were selected,and the impact of the GCT operation on the transient response characteristics of the primary and secondary circuit systems was analyzed.The results show that the GCT plays an indispensable role in core heat removal during an accident;otherwise,core safety cannot be guaranteed.The GCT was used in conjunction with the primary safety injection system during the placement process.When the break diameter was greater than a certain critical value,the core cooling rate could not be guaranteed to be less than 100 K/h;however,the core remained in a safe state.

BACKGROUND The TGF-β/SMAD3 and VEGFR-1 signaling pathways play important roles in gastric cancer metastasis.SMAD3 phosphorylation is a crucial prognostic marker in gastric cancer.AIM To determine the prognostic value and relationship of SMAD3 phospho-isoforms and VEGFR-1 in gastric cancer.METHODS This was a single-center observational study which enrolled 98 gastric cancer patients and 82 adjacent normal gastric tissues from patients aged 32-84 years(median age 65)between July 2006 and April 2007.Patients were followed up until death or the study ended(median follow-up duration of 28.5 mo).The samples were used to generate tissue microarrays(TMAs)for immunohistochemical(IHC)staining.The expressions of TGF-β1,pSMAD3C(S423/425),pSMAD3L(S204),and VEGFR-1 in gastric cancer(GC)tumor tissue and normal tissue were measured by IHC staining using TMAs obtained from 98 GC patients.Prognosis and survival information of the patients was recorded by Outdo Biotech from May 2007 to July 2015.The relationship between TGF-β1,pSMAD3C(S423/425),pSMAD3L(S204),and VEGFR-1 protein expression levels was analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient.The relationship between protein expression levels and clinicopathological parameters was analyzed using the Chi-squared test.A survival curve was generated using the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis.RESULTS TGFβ-1 and VEGFR-1 expression was significantly upregulated in gastric cancer tissue compared to adjacent noncancerous tissue.The positive expression of phosphorylated isoforms of Smad3 varied depending on the phosphorylation site[pSMAD3C(S423/425):51.0%and pSMAD3L(S204):31.6%].High expression of pSMAD-3L(S204)was significantly correlated with larger tumors(P=0.038)and later N stages(P=0.035).Additionally,high expression of VEGFR-1 was closely correlated with tumor size(P=0.015)and pathological grading(P=0.013).High expression of both pSMAD3L(S204)and VEGFR-1 was associated with unfavorable outcomes in terms of overall survival(OS).Multivariate analysis indicated that high expression of

Volume of fluid simulation of single argon bubble dynamics in liquid steel under RH vacuum conditions

Single argon bubble dynamics in liquid steel under Ruhrstahl-Heraeus(RH)vacuum conditions were simulated using the volume of fluid method,and the ideal gas law was used to consider bubble growth due to heat transfer and pressure drop.Additional simulation with a constant bubble density was also performed to validate the numerical method,and the predicted terminal bubble shape and velocity were found to agree with those presented in the Grace diagram and calculated by drag correlation,respectively.The simulation results under RH conditions indicate that the terminal bubble shape and velocity cannot be reached.The primary bubble growth occurs within a rising distance of 0.3 m owing to heating by the high-temperature liquid steel;subsequently,the bubble continues to grow under equilibrium with the hydrostatic pressure.When the initial diameter is 8-32 mm,the bubble diameter and rising velocity near the liquid surface are 80-200 mm and 0.5-0.8 m/s,respectively.The bubble rises rectilinearly with an axisymmetric shape,and the shape evolution history includes an initial sphere,(dimpled)ellipsoid,and spherical cap with satellite bubbles.

Green manufacturing for achieving carbon neutrality goal requires innovative technologies:A bibliometric analysis from 1991 to 2022

Recent years have seen a significant increase in interest in green manufacturing as a key driver of global carbon-neutral efforts and sustainable development.To find the research hotspots of green manufacturing and reveal future research trends,this study reviewed and analyzed research articles from the Web of Science database on green manufacturing from1991 to 2022 using a bibliometric method.The findings indicate a significant rise in the number of articles related to green manufacturing since the 2010s.Moreover,there has been an increase in the involvement of scholars from developing countries such as China and India in this field.Based on the literature review and bibliometric cluster analysis on green manufacturing,we believed that future research may continue following the lines of intelligent technology integration,adoption of frontier engineering techniques,and industry development in line with carbon reduction targets.A framework for future green manufacturing development is proposed,with a focus on Chinese policies.The framework could provide policy implications for developing countries looking to pursue opportunities for development in green manufacturing.
