Mature male sea lampreys(Petromyzon marinus)release a sex pheromone,3-keto-petromyzonol sulfate(3kPZS),that induces sexually dimorphic behavioral responses in ***,the neural mechanism of such responses is mostly *** examined the neurotransmitter serotonin(5-hydroxytryptamine,5-HT)and the expression of 5-HT1A receptors in the forebrain and brainstem of sea lamprey exposed to the vehicle(0.91 ppm methanol)or 10−10 M 3kPZS for 2 h using high performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry,immunohistochemistry and real-time quantitative polymerase chain *** to 3kPZS for 2 h increased 5-HT concentration in the forebrain of adult females,whereas 5-HT was not detected in the forebrain of adult *** the contrary,3kPZS exposure decreased 5-HT concentration in the brainstem of adult females and had no effect in adult *** exposure evoked context-dependent sexual dimorphism in brain 5-HT1A receptor immunoreactivity,but had no effect on 5-HT1A mRNA concentrations in the brain with 2 h exposure *** appears that in sea lamprey pheromone 3kPZS affects the 5-HT system in the brain in a context-dependent,sexually dimorphic manner.

The occurrence of distortion and over voltage at the Point of Common Coupling(PCC)of Renewable Distributed Generation(RDG)limits its penetration levels to the power system and the RDG integration is expected to play a crucial role in power system *** its penetrations to be sustained without disconnection from the system,there must be a solution to the voltage rise,distortion,unbalanced current and grid reactive power control strategy at *** is an IEEE-1547 requirement that RDG integration to the power system should be regulated at PCC to avoid disconnection from the network due to power quality *** integration must meet up with this specification to uphold power quality and avoid damage to the sensitive equipment connected at *** this paper,voltage rise,unbalanced current,reactive power and distortion are being managed at PCC while Distribution Network(DN)accepts more RDG penetration levels without violation of the IEEE and South Africa grid code *** Power Filter and Full Bridge Multi-Level Converter(FBMC)are considered to safeguard power quality to the grid,they are modelled in MATLAB/SIMULINK and the results obtained shown that the proposed strategy can successfully regulate voltage rise,distortion,unbalanced current and continuously improve power quality with RDG integration at *** proposed method’s key innovation is the strategic generation and absorption of reactive power to curtain an overvoltage,reverse power flow,and distortion at the PCC,allowing more RDG penetration levels to the grid without disconnection while maintaining the standard requirement for power quality at the *** simulation outcomes validate the superiority of the FBMC over the active power filter with respect of reactive power generation/absorption,dynamic response,and damping capability.

Lead adsorption of zinc oxide-coated ACOR montmorillonite was investigated in batches and under reducing conditions at ambient temperature. The presence of zinc oxide coating significantly enhanced the adsorption of Pb^(2+) ions by ACOR montmorillonite. Characterization of adsorbents involved the use of X-ray diffraction, sodium saturation techniques, coulter laser analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and electron dispersive *** involved the trimetric process, activation of the ACOR montmorillonite and reacting of the same with zinc nitrate to produce a zinc oxide composite solid at 450 °*** reaction mechanism indicated less than one proton coefficient, and higher mass transfer rates, when compared with bare montmorillonite. Intraparticle diffusion was higher than the value recorded for the bare montmorillonite. Reactions based on initial Pb^(2+) concentration indicated that coated montmorillonite gradually became saturated as the concentration was increased. Reactions based on solid concentration demonstrated a complex change in the capacity of adsorption over different Pb^(2+) concentrations(10–40 mg L^(-1)) and solid concentrations(2–10 g L^(-1)). The specific surface area reduction, particle size increase, mineral aggregation, and concentration gradient effect controlled the complex changes in adsorption.

Premature birth,defined as birth before 37 weeks completed gestation,represents 11.1%of all live births worldwide and the rate has increased in almost all countries over the past few decades(Dhillon et al.,2018).Although mortality after preterm birth has fallen steadily over time,preterm infants continue to have very high rates of neurodevelopmental disability,including severe motor disorders such as cerebral palsy(Dhillon et al.,2018;Yates et al.,2021).

ZnO nanoparticles are widely used for the electron transport layers(ETLs)of quantum dots light emitting devices(QLEDs).In this work we show that incorporating fluorine(F)into the ZnO ETL results in significant enhancement in device electroluminescence stability,leading to LT50 at 100 cd m^(−2) of 2,370,000 h in red QLED,47X longer than the control devices.X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy,time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy,photoluminescence and electrical measurements show that the F passivates oxygen vacancies and reduces electron traps in *** photoluminescence versus bias measurements and capacitance-voltage-luminance measurements reveal that the CF4 plasma-treated ETLs lead to increased electron concentration in the QD and the QD/hole transport layer interface,subsequently decreasing hole accumulation,and hence the higher *** findings provide new insights into the critical roles that optimizing charge distribution across the layers play in influencing stability and present a novel and simple approach for extending QLED lifetimes.

Currently,ischemic stroke remains one of the most costly and devastating clinical syndromes,accounting for 9%of all deaths and being the second leading cause of death in the world(davidson et al.,2018).Approximately 20%of strokes are caused by intracerebral hemorrhage,while the other^80%are classified as *** the discovery of thrombolysis,reperfusion therapy became an option for the treatment of ischemic *** recently,endovascular recanalization with mechanical thrombectomy has brought about a paradigm shift in the optimal management of patients with large vessel ***,early reperfusion is the only therapy that is proven to limit infarct size in patients with acute ischemic ***,despite a successful recanalization being achieved in more than 70% of patients treated with mechanical thrombectomy+/–intravenous tissue recombinant plasminogen activator,functional independence(modified Rankin score 0–2 at 3 months after ischemic stroke)is obtained only in^45% of *** reveals the further need to develop new adjunctive neuroprotective treatment strategies alongside reperfusion therapy.

There is increasing evidence that infants with mild neonatal encephalopathy(NE) have significant risks of mortality, brain injury and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. In the era of therapeutic hypothermia, infants need to be diagnosed within 6 hours of birth, corresponding with the window of opportunity for treatment of moderate to severe NE, compared to the retrospective grading over 2 to 3 days, typically with imaging and formal electroencephalographic assessment in the pre-hypothermia era. This shift in diagnosis may have increased the apparent prevalence of brain damage and poor neurological outcomes seen in infants with mild NE in the era of hypothermia. Abnormal short term outcomes observed in infants with mild NE include seizures, abnormal neurologic examination at discharge, abnormal brain magnetic resonance imaging and difficulty feeding. At 2 to 3 years of age, mild NE has been associated with an increased risk of autism, language and cognitive deficits. There are no approved treatment strategies for these infants as they were not included in the initial randomized controlled trials for therapeutic hypothermia. However, there is already therapeutic creep, with many centers treating infants with mild NE despite the limited evidence for its safety and efficacy. The optimal duration of treatment and therapeutic window of opportunity for effective treatment need to be specifically established for mild NE as the evolution of injury is likely to be slower, based on preclinical data. Randomized controlled trials of therapeutic hypothermia for infants with mild NE are urgently required to establish the safety and efficacy of treatment. This review will examine the evidence for adverse outcomes after mild NE and dissect some of the challenges in developing therapeutic strategies for mild NE, before analyzing the evidence for therapeutic hypothermia and other strategies for treatment of these infants.
