A new approach to pedestal differentiation for soil loss estimation-a case study from a burnt area in north-central Portugal

soil pedestals have long been used as qualitative indicators of soil splash *** rangelands,plant-capped pedestals,generally grass tussocks,have also been used to quantitatively estimate soil loss since the first half of the twentieth *** agricultural lands,forests,and bad-lands,stone-capped pedestals have been used as qualitative and semi-quantitative indicators of active,'extreme'*** work has been reported on using capstone pedestal data for quantifying soil *** postulate that three distinct capstone pedestal types may be present in any given location and that a detailed analysis of a pedestal height histogram may be used to recognize their *** analysis can subsequently inform if soil loss can be reliably estimated and if so,which of the existing methods using pedestal height data will provide more accurate *** three proposed capstone pedestal types are:(1)neo-pedestals formed underneath surface stones exposed by(partial)removal of the soil surface cover;(2)endo-pedestals formed underneath stones that were buried in the soil but have been exposed by erosion;and(3)phoenix-pedestals formed underneath stones from collapsed *** the pedestal height histogram of any given location,a skew to smaller heights may indicate the existence of endo-and/or phoenix-pedestals,which may be revealed as a bi-(or tri)modal distribution when using a smaller bin *** concept was applied to a case study where soil loss had been monitored for control plots and mulched plots during a 5-year period following wildfire in a eucalypt *** measured pedestal heights and used methods to quantitatively assess soil loss from soil pedestal data in the available *** pedestal data at the end of the 5-year period under or overestimated soil loss in the control treatment,with results ranging from 60 to 115%of measured soil loss,depending on the *** is postulated that phoenix-and endo-pedestals may be a driving fact

The Late Pleistocene littoral ridges of southern south America,especially those of the north of Argentinean Patagonia,contain remains of mollusk shells with bioerosion *** sites from marine isotope stages(2 from MIs 7,4 from MIs 5 e)and five sites from modern beaches from northern río Negro Province,with 40 taxa(17 bivalves and 23 gastropods)were analyzed,in the area between west of Baliza san Matías and Las Grutas(41°s).Three ichnogenera were identified in deposits of MIs 7:Entobia,Gastrochaenolites(Domichnia)and Oichnus(Praedichnia)with one ichnospecies(***).six ichnogenera were identified in deposits of MIs 5 e:Entobia,Meandropolydora,Pinaceocladichnus,Iramena,Caulostrepsis and Oichnus with one ichnospecies(***).seven ichnogenera were identified from modern beaches:Entobia,Meandropolydora,Iramena,Caulostrepsis,Pinaceocladichnus,Gastrochaenolites(Domichnia)and Oichnus(Praedicnia),with two ichnospecies(*** and ***).On this basis,it is inferred that Pleistocene benthic communities were constituted from cheilostome bryzoans and polychaete annelids,together with drilling bivalves,predatory gastropods and overall warm-water species of *** these,Chama iudicai was found on Plicatula gibbosa from MIs 7 and MIs 5 *** record of warm temperature species suggests a higher sea surface temperature(ssT)than the present one and/or the influence of the warm southward Brazilian Current affecting the waters of Golfo san Matí*** the modern beaches surveyed,there is an increase in polychaete annelids,cheilostome bryzoans,temperate-cold species and drilling bivalves,as well as sandy substrate species,which together with an increase of Gastrochaenolites and Caulostrepsis,suggest a colder climate due to the greater influence of the Malvinas Current during the Holocene.

As the causative agent of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(sArs-CoV-2)is one of the seven coronaviruses pathogenic to human and one of the four human coronaviruses that cause acute respiratory disease *** it affects people of all age groups,the risk of mortality is *** in many other diseases,elderly patients have a higher risk of infection,mortality,and morbidity[1].While it is a common belief that children fare better than adult and elderly,recent evidence merged that neonates and infants are associated with a higher risk of mortality and morbidity,compared to children and adolescents[2,3].For instance,a cross-country study found that the infection–fatality ratio of those agedrs was found to be 0.003,higher than those aged between 5 and 14 years of 0.001 despite lower than those aged between 20 and 59 that vary between 0.006 and 0.323[4].However,whether this holds true in the risk of infection is not yet *** this background,the present work aimed to verify whether neonates are more susceptible to COVID-19 using publicly available data of all polymerase chain reaction(PCr)tests performed in the state of são Paulo of Brazil.

Bone–cartilage crosstalk:a conversation for understanding osteoarthritis

Although cartilage degradation is the characteristic feature of osteoarthritis （OA）, it is now recognized that the whole joint is involved in the progression of OA. In particular, the interaction （crosstalk） between cartilage and subchondral bone is thought to be a central feature of this process. The interface between articular cartilage and bone of articulating long bones is a unique zone, which comprises articular cartilage, below which is the calcified cartilage sitting on and intercalated into the subchondral bone plate. Below the subchondral plate is the trabecular bone at the end of the respective long bones. In OA, there are well- char described *** destructive tges in the ~cular cartilage, which parallel characteristic changes in the underlying hone, This review examines the evidence that biochemical and biomechanical signaling between these tissue compartments is important in OA disease progression and asks whether such signaling might provide possibilities for therapeutic intervention to halt or slow disease development.

This article B is almost autonomous because it can be read independently from the first published article A [1] using only a few parts of the article A. Be-low are given instructions so to need the reader study only on few places of the article A. Also, in the part A of Introduction, here, you will find simple and useful definitions and the strategy we are going to follow as well useful new theorems (also and in section 5, which have been produced in this solution). so the published solution of twin’s problem can now be easily understood. The inequalities (4.17), (4.18) of Article A are proved here in section 4 by a new clear method, without the possible ambiguity of the text between the relations (4.14), (4.16) of the Article A. Also we complete the proof for the twin’s distri-bution which we use. At the end here are presented the Conclusions, the No-menclatures and the numerical control of the proof, which is probably useful as well in coding methods. For a general and convincing picture is sufficient, a study from the beginning of this article B until the end of the part A of the In-troduction here as well a general glance on the section 5 and on the Conclu-sions below.

riemann Hypothesis, Catholic Information and Potential of Events with New Techniques for Financial and Other Applications

In this research we are going to define two new concepts: a) “The Potential of Events” (EP) and b) “The Catholic Information” (CI). The term CI derives from the ancient Greek language and declares all the Catholic (general) Logical Propositions (src="Edit_***" width="33" height="21" alt="" />) which will true for every element of a set A. We will study the riemann Hypothesis in two stages: a) By using the EP we will prove that the distribution of events e (even) and o (odd) of square Free Numbers (sFN) on the axis Ax(N) of naturals is Heads-Tails (H-T) type. b) By using the CI we will explain the way that the distribution of prime numbers can be correlated with the non-trivial zeros of the function ζ(s) of riemann. The Introduction and the Chapter 2 are necessary for understanding the solution. In the Chapter 3 we will present a simple method of forecasting in many very useful applications (e.g. financial, technological, medical, social, etc) developing a generalization of this new, proven here, theory which we finally apply to the solution of rH. The following Introduction as well the results with the Discussion at the end shed light about the possibility of the proof of all the above. The article consists of 9 chapters that are numbered by 1, 2, …, 9.

Potential role of strike-slip faults in opening up the south China sea

radiometric dates of key rock units indicate that a remnant Late Mesozoic ocean of the Huatung Basin is still preserved today east of the south China sea(sCs).We integrate regional geology with a Cretaceous oceanic basement in the vicinity of the Huatung Basin to reconstruct the Huatung Plate east of the Eurasian *** of geophysical investigations, four expeditions of deep-sea drilling and a renaissance of regional geology allow us to propose a hypothesis that the mechanism responsible for the sCs opening was raised from strike-slip fault on the *** hypothesis suggests that the sCs opening could highly relate to the strike-slip faults inherited from Late Mesozoic structures onshore–offshore the sE Cathaysia Block to develop rhombic-shaped extensional basins en echelon on the thinned Eurasian continental crust in the Early *** was followed by sinistral strike-slip movements along the boundary between the Eurasian Plate and the Huatung Plate driven by oblique subduction of the Huatung Plate to the northwest coupled with slab-pull force by southward subduction of the Proto-sCs to open up the triangle-shaped oceanic East sub-basin in the Early Oligocene(33/34 Ma).The spreading ridge then propagated southwestward in the step-over segment between the Zhongnan-Lile and the red river strike-slip fault systems to open the triangle-shaped oceanic southwest sub-basin by 23 *** plate boundary fault was subsequently converted into the Manila Trench when the Eocene sierra Madre arc of the Huatung Plate had moved from the south to its present latitude by the Middle Miocene.

A solution to the Famous “Twin’s Problem”

In the following pages I will try to give a solution to this very known unsolved problem of theory of numbers. The solution is given here with an important analysis of the proof of formula (4.18), with the introduction of special intervals between square of prime numbers that I call silver intervals . And I make introduction of another also new mathematic phenomenon of logical proposition “In mathematics nothing happens without reason” for which I use the ancient Greek term “catholic information”. From the theorem of prime numbers we know that the expected multitude of prime numbers in an interval is given by formula ?considering that interval as a continuous distribution of real numbers that represents an elementary natural numbers interval. From that we find that in the elementary interval around of a natural number ν we easily get by dx=1 the probability that has the ν to be a prime number. From the last formula one can see that the second part of formula (4.18) is absolutely in agreement with the above theorem of prime numbers. But the benefit of the (4.18) is that this formula enables correct calculations in set N on finding the multitude of twin prime numbers, in contrary of the above logarithmic relation which is an approximation and must tend to be correct as ν tends to infinity. Using the relationship (4.18) we calculate here the multitude of twins in N, concluding that this multitude tends to infinite. But for the validity of the computation, the distribution of the primes in a random silver interval is examined, proving on the basis of catholic information that the density of primes in the same random silver interval is statistically constant. Below, in introduction, we will define this concept of “catholic information” stems of “information theory” [1] and it is defined to use only general forms in set N, because these represent the set N and not finite parts of it. This concept must be correlated to riemann Hypothesis.

Quasi-type II heterostructured nanocrystals(NCs)have been of particular interest due to their great potential for controlling the interplay of charge ***,the lack of material choices for quasi-type II NCs restricts the accessible emission wavelength from red to near-infrared(NIr),which hinders their use in light-emitting applications that demand a wide range of visible ***,we demonstrate a new class of quasi-type II nanoemitters formulated in Znse/Znse_(1-X)Te_(X)/Znse seed/spherical quantum well/shell heterostructures(sQWs)whose emission wavelength ranges from blue to *** a given geometry,Znse_(1-X)Te_(X) emissive layers grown between the Znse seed and the shell layer are strained to fit into the surrounding media,and thus,the lattice mismatch between Znse_(1-X)Te_(X) and Znse is effectively *** addition,composition of the Znse_(1-X)Te_(X) emissive layer and the dimension of the Znse shell layer are engineered to tailor the distribution and energy of electron and hole wave *** from the capabilities to tune the charge carriers on demand and to form defectfree heterojunctions,Znse/Znse_(1-X)Te_(X)/Znse/Zns NCs show near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY>90%)in a broad range of emission wavelengths(peak PL from 450nm to 600 nm).Finally,we exemplify dichromatic white NC-based light-emitting diodes(NC-LEDs)employing the mixed layer of blue-and yellow-emitting Znse/Znse_(1-X)TeX/Znse/Zns sQW NCs.
