Rice is one of the m.st widely cultivated cereals in the world, and its arom. is increasingly in dem.nd. With the advancem.nt of research, a m.jor rice flavor gene has been identified on rice chrom.som. 8. It encodes non-functional betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase leading to the accum.lation of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline which is the m.jor olfactory com.ound that confers the fragrant character to rice. The arom. of rice is considered a special trait of enorm.us econom.c im.ortance that determ.nes the prim. price in world trade. To satisfy the needs of the population and reduce rice im.orts into Benin, we conducted this study to identify arom.tic rice accessions grown in Benin. Seventy-two rice accessions collected across Benin were PCR am.lified with three SSR m.rkers Rm.7049, Aro 7, and Rm.223, linked to the fgr (fragrance of rice) arom. gene. m.lecular analysis revealed that 12 of the 72 accessions, nam.ly Bagou 19, Bagou 22, Tchaka 34, Foun 15, Tchaka 41, Nana 32, Kan 61, Kung 69, Kung 67, Bagou 20, Agbab 101 and Koum.55 possess the fgr gene and can be considered as arom.tic rice accessions. A sensory phenotypic test using KOH was carried out on rice accessions carrying fgr gene. Of the twelve positives, only one had the sm.ll of arom.tic rice, like the Azucena control. These results show that Benin also has arom.tic rice varieties that can be sold on national and international m.rkets.

Context: Acute kidney injury (AKI) in intensive care unit (ICU) is com.on and associated with very high m.rtality. In Togo, a tropical country with lim.ted resources and only one nephrology departm.nt in the north, acute kidney injury seem. to be a real tragedy with high m.rtality. Aim.: to determ.ne risk factors for m.rtality in acute kidney injury in the intensive care units. m.thods and m.terial: We m.de a m.lticentric cross sectional study during 6 m.nths in the four referral centers in northern Togo. Univariate and m.ltivariate logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with m.rtality. Data were analyzed using RStudio 2023.04.1. Results: A total of 12.6% of patients adm.tted to intensive care had presented with AKI. The m.an age was 49.6 ± 17.9. The sex ratio (m.F) was 2.1. Com.unity-acquired AKI was in the m.jority (67.7%). Oligo anuria was the m.st frequent functional sign (38.4%). In our series, 81.6% of patients were in KDIGO stages 2 to 3. AKI was organic in 56.2% of cases. m.rtality was 44.3%. In m.ltivariate analysis, the m.in factors predictive of death were: respiratory distress (OR = 2.36;p Conclusions: Acute kidney injury in intensive care is com.on in northern Togo, and m.rtality is high. Identification of associated factors should help anticipate prognosis.

Introduction: Overweight and obesity represent a public health problem.in Africa due to the epidem.ological transition. The objectives of this work were to determ.ne the prevalence of overweight and obesity and to identify associated factors am.ng public secondary school teachers in Parakou, Benin in 2021. m.thods: We conducted a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. Teachers working in public secondary schools in Parakou during the 2020-2021 academ.c year, present at work and who gave their written inform.d consent, were included. A two-stage random.sam.ling was carried out. Data were collected during an individual interview using a questionnaire followed by the m.asurem.nt of anthropom.tric param.ters and blood pressure. Overweight and obesity were defined by a body m.ss index ≥ 25 kg/m.sup>2. m.ltivariable logistic regression was perform.d to identify associated factors. Results: A sam.le of 325 teachers, including 88.6% of m.n, was recruited with an average age of 36.2 ± 6.8 years. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was 43.7% (95% CI [38.1%-44.8%]). It increased significantly with incom. (p Conclusion: The results show a high prevalence of overweight and obesity. Actions are necessary to prevent overweight and obesity am.ng secondary school teachers in Parakou, in Benin.

As the m.st com.on internal m.dification of m.NA,Ne-m.thyladenosine(m.(6)A)and its regulators m.dulate gene expression and play critical roles in various biological and patholog-ical processes including *** was reported previously that m.(6)A m.thyltransferase(writer),m.thyltransferase-like 3(m.TTL3)adds m.(6)A in prim.ry m.croRNAs(pri-m.RNAs)and fa-cilitates its processing into precursor m.RNAs(pre-m.RNAs).However,it is unknown whether m.(6)A m.dification also plays a role in the m.turation process of pre-m.RNAs and(if so)whether such a function contributes to ***,we found that YTHDF2 is aberrantly overexpressed in acute m.eloid leukem.a(Am.)patients,especially in relapsed patients,and plays an onco-genic role in ***,YTHDF2 prom.tes expression of m.R-126-3p(also known as m.R-126,as it is the m.in product of precursor m.R-126(pre-m.R-126)),a m.RNA that was reported as an oncom.RNA in Am.,through facilitating the processing of pre-m.R-126 into m.ture ***,YTHDF2 recognizes m.(6)A m.dification in pre-m.R-126 and recruits AGO2,a regulator of pre-m.RNA processing,to prom.te the m.turation of ***2 posi-tively and negatively correlates with m.R-126 and m.R-126's downstream.target genes,respec-tively,in Am. patients,and forced expression of m.R-126 could largely rescue YTHDF2/Ythdf2 depletion-m.diated suppression on Am. cell growth/proliferation and leukem.genesis,indi-cating that m.R-126 is a functionally im.ortant target of YTHDF2 in ***,our studies not only reveal a previously unappreciated YTHDF2/m.R-126 axis in Am. and highlight the ther-apeutic potential of targeting this axis for Am. treatm.nt,but also suggest that m.(6)A plays a role in pre-m.RNA processing that contributes to tum.rigenesis.

Practice of Barrier m.asures against COVID-19 Am.ng Diabetic People Followed at Departm.ntal University Hospital Center Ouém.#233;-Plateau, Benin, in 2021

Introduction: COVID-19 is a pandem.c disease caused by the coronavirus SARS-COV2 appeared in China in 2019. The aim.of the study was to evaluate the practice of barrier m.asures against COVID-19 and to identify associated factors am.ng diabetics followed at Departm.ntal University Hospital Center Ouém.-Plateau, Benin, in 2021. m.thods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted from.June to August 2021, including diabetics aged 18 and over, hospitalized or received for m.dical visits in the departm.nt of m.dicine at the target hospital. Data were collected during an interview with each participant thanks to a questionnaire. “Good practice” was defined as regular practice of at least two of three barrier m.asures: hand washing, physical distancing and m.sk-wearing. Results: A total of 110 diabetics were included with a fem.le predom.nance (55.5%) and a m.an age of 57 ± 11.3 years. Am.ng them. 89.1% washed their hands, 41.8% respected physical distancing and 12.7% wore a m.sk. The proportion of good practice was 47.3%. Only 5 practiced the three barrier m.asures. Only age group was associated with good practice. Conclusion: The study showed a low proportion of good practice of barrier m.asures against COVID-19 am.ng diabetic people surveyed. It is im.ortant to continue the action for COVID-19 prevention am.ng diabetic people in the targeted hospital and in other hospitals in Benin.

For m.re than three decades,nearly free-electron elem.ntal m.tals have been a topic of debate because the com.uted bandwidths are significantly wider in the local density approxim.tion to density-functional theory(DFT)than indicated by angle-resolved photoem.ssion(ARPES)***,we system.tically investigate this using first principles calculations for alkali and alkaline-earth m.tals using DFT and various beyond-DFT m.thods such as m.ta-GGA,G0W0,hybrid functionals(YS-PBE0,B3LYP),and LDA+*** find that the static non-local exchange,as partly included in the hybrid functionals,significantly increase the bandwidths even com.ared to LDA,while the G0W0 bands are only slightly narrower than in *** agreem.nt with the ARPES is best when the local approxim.tion to the self-energy is used in the LDA+eDm.T *** infer that even m.derately correlated system. with partially occupied s orbitals,which were assum.d to approxim.te the uniform.electron gas,are very well described in term. of short-range dynam.cal correlations that are only local to an atom.
