Effects of Adrenalectomy and Corticosterone on Hippocampal Lesions Induced by Trimethyltin

The effects of adrenalectomy and corticosterone supplementation on the neurotoxicity of trimethyltin (TMT) were tested. CD-1 mice with or without adrenalectomy were injected with TMT at a dose of 3.0mg/kg body wt. At 48h post-TMT administration, the animals were killed for pathological examination. It was found that the adrenalectomized animals developed even more severe lesions in the hippocampal formation (fascia dentata granule cells) than the intact animals. when animals were given a supplement of corticosterone pellets at doses of 0.15, 1.5, and 7.5mg, there was a reduction of lesion development. Total alleviation of pathology was seen at the two higher doses of supplementation. Our present investigation strongly indicates that there may be a close and important interrelationship between TMT-induced neurotoxicity and adrenal function. 1989 Academic Press, Inc.

we report the first description of the biology of non-bioluminescent Keroplatidae from China. The life cycle of Chetoneura shennonggongensis is documented from laboratory culture and from field observations. The larval stage usually lasts 8-10 months. Large amounts of pupae are observed in late June, where they remain suspended horizontally or vertically from silk threads. The pupal suspending postures differ from other Keroplatidae species. Sexual differentiation is evident from the pupal stage. July is the peak time of adult emergence. Mating usually takes place immediately upon female emergence if adult males are available. The adult life span is short. Females live a maximum of 5 days and males 7 days. Egg development time varies from 20 30 days depending on environmental temperature. Larvae hang long sticky silk threads with a series of mucous droplets to capture prey. Some behaviors associated with snare construction and prey capture are also described.

The optimal method for monitoring quiescent disease in patients with Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis is yet to be determined. Endoscopic evaluation with ileocolonoscopy is the gold standard but is invasive,costly,and time-consuming. There are many commercially available biomarkers that may be used in clinical practice to evaluate disease status in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),but the most widely adopted biomarkers are C-reactive protein(CRP) and fecal calprotectin(FC). This review summarizes the evidence for utilizing CRP and FC for monitoring IBD during clinical remission and after surgical resection. Endoscopic correlation with CRP and FC is evaluated in each disease state. Advantages and drawbacks of each biomarker are discussed with special consideration of isolated ileal CD. Fecal immunochemical testing,traditionally used for colorectal cancer screening,is mentioned as a potential new alternative assay in the evaluation of IBD. Based on a mixture of information gleaned from biomarkers,clinical status,and endoscopic evaluation,the best treatment decisions can be made for the patient with IBD.

A Gabor wavelets based technique was investigated as a potential tool for scene classification(into one of bare patch,plant,or weed)for its ultimate utility in site-specific application of agrochemicals inwild blueberry *** were gathered from five sites located in central Nova Scotia,*** wavelet features extracted from these images were used to classify scenes according to visually determined classes using step-wise linear discriminant *** individual fields,classification accuracy attained ranged between 87.9%and 98.3%;selected Gabor features ranged between 27 and 72;contextual accuracy for herbicide ranged between 67.5%and 96.7%,and contextual accuracy for fertilizer ranged between 63.6%and 97.1%.The pooled scenes yielded a classification accuracy of 81.4%,and contextual accuracy figures of 61.1%and 73.1%for herbicide and fertilizer,respectively,with selected Gabor features of *** based on LDA coefficients from the pooled scenes could help avoid the need to re-calibrate for each field,whereas those based on individual field LDA coefficients could improve accuracy,hence enable saving on expensive agrochemicals.

Early screening for colorectal cancer(CRC) holds the key to combat and control the increasing global burden of CRC morbidity and mortality. However, the current available screening modalities are severely inadequate because of their high cost and cumbersome preparatory procedures that ultimately lead to a low participation rate. People simply do not like to have colonoscopies. It would be ideal, therefore, to develop an alternative modality based on blood biomarkers as the first line screening test. This will allow for the differentiation of the general population from high risk individuals. Colonoscopy would then become the secondary test, to further screen the high risk segment of the population. This will encourage participation and therefore help to reach the goal of early detection and thereby reduce the anticipated increasing global CRC incidence rate. A blood-based screening test is anappealing alternative as it is non-invasive and poses minimal risk to patients. It is easy to perform, can be repeated at shorter intervals, and therefore would likely lead to a much higher participation rate. This review surveys various blood-based test strategies currently under investigation, discusses the potency of what is available, and assesses how new technology may contribute to future test design.

In recent years, significant attention has been paid to perovskite materials. In particular, lead triiodide-based perovskites have exhibited superb optoelectronic properties. Enhancing the stability of these materials is an essential step towards large-scale applications. In this stud） by simply adding trioctylphosphine （TOP） as part of the post-synthesis treatment, we significantly enhance the stability of CsPbI3 quantum dots （QDs） in the solution phase, which otherwise decay rapidly in hours. For CsPbI3 QDs treated with TOP, the absorption and photoluminescence emission properties are unchanged over the course of weeks, and the quantum yield remains almost constant at 30% even after 1 month. The morphologies of both treated and untreated QDs are initially cubic; however, the treated QDs largely maintain their initial size and shape, while the untreated ones lose size uniformity, which is a sign of degradation. Infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirm the presence of P in the TOP-treated QDs. we hope that the technique of utilizing a ligand post-treatment will lead to new insights that help to resolve the intrinsic instability issue of triiodide perovskite materials and devices.

Bionic Optimization Design of Electronic Nose Chamber for Oil and Gas Detection

In this paper, a miniaturized bionic electronic nose system is developed in order to solve the problems arising in oil and gas detection for large size and inflexible operation in downhole. The bionic electronic nose chamber is designed by mimicking human nasal turbinate structure, V-groove structure on shark skin surface and flow field distribution around skin surface. The sensitivity of the bionic electronic nose system is investigated through experimentation. Radial Basis Function （RBF） and Support Vector Machines （SVM） of 10-fold cross validation are used to compare the recognition performance of the bionic electronic nose system and common one. The results show that the sensitivity of the bionic electronic nose system with bionic composite chamber （chamber B） is significantly improved compared with that with common chamber （chamber A）. The recognition rate of chamber B is 4.27% higher than that of chamber A for the RBF algorithm, while for the SVM algorithm, the recognition rate of chamber B is 5.69% higher than that of chamber A. The three-dimensional simulation model of the chamber is built and verified by Computational Fluid Dynamics （CFD） simulation analysis. The number of vortices in chamber B is fewer than that in chamber A. The airflow velocity near the sensors inside chamber B is slower than that inside chamber A. The vortex intensity near the sensors in chamber B is 2.27 times as much as that in chamber A, which facilitates gas molecules to fully contact with the sensor surface and increases the intensity of sensor signal, and the contact strength and time between odorant molecules and sensor surface. Based on the theoretical investigation and test validation, it is believed that the proposed bionic electronic nose system with bionic composite chamber has potential for oil and gas detection in downhole.
