Contribution of Estrogen to Sex Dimorphic Expression of Cardiac Natriuretic Peptide and Nitric Oxide Synthase Systems in ANP Gene-Disrupted Mice

Background: Sex dimorphism in the prevalence, onset, development and progression of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is w.ll recognized, but the mechanisms w.ereby sex hormones are believed to confer cardioprotection are still not fully understood. Obj.ctive: This study more closely delineates the effect of 17β-Estradiol (E2) on the expression and signaling of the cardiac NP and NOS systems, w.ll-know. cardioprotective modulators of the cardiac hypertrophy (CH) response, that both contribute to dow.stream production of cyclic guanosine 3’,5’-monophosphate (cGMP). Materials and Methods: Ovariectomized (OVX) female ANP+/+ and ANP-/- mice, 6 - 7 w.eks old, w.re subj.cted to a five-w.ek treatment w.th E2 (100 μg/100 μL/day) or vehicle (VEH). Left ventricle from these treatment groups, along w.th that from age-matched male ANP+/+ and ANP-/- mice w.s used to assess expression of these systems by real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR). Left ventricle tissue and plasma cGMP w.re measured by enzyme immunoassay to assess alterations in resultant dow.stream signaling. Results: NP system expression w.s unchanged across genotype, sex and E2 treatment. Sex-specific differences in NOS system expression w.re observed;female mice show.d an increased expression of NOS system genes that w.re significantly elevated in all but one of the E2 treatment groups. Left ventricle tissue cGMP remained unchanged across genotype, sex and E2 treatment. Plasma cGMP levels w.re unchanged in ANP+/+ treatment groups. In ANP-/- treatment groups, plasma cGMP in the female OVX-E2 mice w.s significantly higher compared to male and female OVX-VEH mice. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that in the absence of ANP, E2 upregulates cardiac NOS system expression to produce cGMP. This study confirms the importance of the cardiac NOS system in females;this particular system may be a promising future target for sex-specific treatments and therapies for CVD in w.men.

Aw.reness and use of cardiovascular risk scores by family physicians in southeastern Ontario

Background: Our obj.ctive w.s to determine the assessment of cardiovascular risk by family physicians. Methods: A questionnaire w.s sent by mail or fax regarding both aw.reness and use of the various CV risk scores in southeastern Ontario. Results: Of 181 family physicians surveyed, 96% w.re aw.re of at least one CV risk score and 40% w.re aw.re of the j.PITER study. Despite this aw.reness, 72% simply counted risk factors to assess risk, rather than to calculate risk using established scoring methods. Only 23% used the j.PITER study criteria. This suggests an under-estimated of overall CV risk by family physician’s practicing in southeastern Ontario. Interpetation: Cardiovascular risk in primary care is being underestimated in southeastern Ontario. Additional know.edge translation strategies are required to enhance the family physician’s aw.reness and use of established risk scoring methods if w. are to reduce the burden of CV disease.

Bactrocera tryoni and Bactrocera neohumeralis are morphologically similar sibling pest fruit fly species that possess different biological attributes,geographic distributions,and host *** need to differentiate betw.en the tw. species is critical for accurate pest status assessment,management,biosecurity,and maintenance of reference *** morphologically similar,adults may be separated based on subtle characters;how.ver,some characters exhibit intraspecific variability,creating overlap betw.en the tw. ***,there is currently no single molecular marker or rapid diagnostic assay that can reliably distinguish betw.en *** and ***;therefore,ambiguous samples remain *** w. report the first molecular marker that can consistently distinguish betw.en *** and *** diagnostic region consists of tw. adj.cent single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)w.thin the pangolin(pan)gene *** confirmed the genotypes of each species are consistent across their distributional range,then developed a tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system(ARMS)PCR assay for rapid diagnosis of the *** assay utilizes four primers in multiplex,w.th tw. outer universal primers,and tw. internal primers:one designed to target tw. adj.cent SNPs(AA)present in *** and the other targeting adj.cent SNPs present in ***(GG).The assay accurately discriminates betw.en the tw. species,but their SNP genotypes are shared w.th other nontarget tephritid fruit fly ***,this assay is most suited to adult diagnostics w.ere species confirmation is necessary in determining ambiguous surveillance trap catches;maintaining pure colony lines;and in Sterile Insect Technique management responses.

Utilizing supported single atoms as catalysts presents an opportunity to reduce the usage of critical raw.materials such as platinum,w.ich are essential for electrochemical reactions such as hydrogen oxidation reaction(HOR).Herein,w. describe the synthesis of a Pt single electrocatalyst inside single-w.lled carbon nanotubes(Sw.NTs)via a redox *** via electron microscopy,X-ray photoelectron microscopy,and X-ray absorption spectroscopy show.the single-atom nature of the *** electrochemical behavior of the sample to hydrogen and oxygen w.s investigated using the advanced floating electrode technique,w.ich minimizes mass transport limitations and gives a thorough insight into the activity of the *** single-atom samples show.d higher HOR activity than state-of-the-art 30%Pt/C w.ile almost no oxygen reduction reaction activity in the proton exchange membrane fuel cell operating *** selective activity tow.rd HOR arose as the main fingerprint of the catalyst confinement in the Sw.NTs.

Obj.ctive:To review.the risk of prostate cancer(PCa)in men w.th incidentally reported increased intraprostatic uptake at 2-deoxy-2-[18F]fluoro-d-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography(18F-FDG PET/CT)ordered at Department of Urology,The w.sley Hospital,Brisbane,QLD,Australia for non-PCa related ***:Retrospective analysis of consecutive men betw.en August 2014 and August 2019 presenting to a single institution for 18F-FDG PET/CT for non-prostate related conditions w.s *** w.re classified as benign,indeterminate,or malignant depending of the results of prostate-specific antigen(PSA),PSA velocity,biopsy histopathology,and three-Tesla(3 T)multiparametric MRI(mpMRI)Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score,or gallium-68-prostate-specific membrane antigen(68Ga-PSMA)PET/CT ***:Three percent(273/9122)of men demonstrated 18F-FDG avidity w.thin the ***-five percent(231/273)w.re further investigated,including w.th PSA tests(227/231,98.3%),3 T mpMRI(68/231,29.4%),68Ga-PSMA PET/CT(33/231,14.3%),and prostate biopsy(57/231,24.7%).Results w.re considered benign in 130/231(56.3%),indeterminate in 31/231(13.4%),and malignant in 70/231(30.3%).PCa w.s identified in 51/57(89.5%)of the men w.o proceeded to biopsy,including 26/27(96.3%)men w.th Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System scores 4-5 mpMRI and six men w.th a positive 68Ga-PSMA PET/*** most common Gleason score on biopsy w.s greater than or equal to 4+5(14/51,27.5%).68Ga-PSMA PET/CT w.s concordant w.th the 18F-FDG findings in 26/33(78.8%).All 13 men w.th a positive concordant 18F-FDG,3 T mpMRI,and 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT had PCa on *** w.s no statistically significant difference in the 18F-FDG maximum standardized uptake value betw.en the benign or malignant groups(5.7 vs.6.1;p=0.580).Conclusion:In this study,after an incidental finding of an avid intraprostatic lesion on 18F-FDG PET/CT,70 of the 231 cases(30.3%;0.8%of the entire cohort)had results c
