The Beshta-Kamenistaya intrusions are located in the Main Range structural zone of the Greater *** are composed of tonalitic gneisses that genetically resemble granites of the tholeiitic series of the ophiolitic *** Beshta-Kamenistaya orthogneisses and associated rocks of the nappes differ markedly from those of the Main Range *** of them were overthrust to the Main Range zone during the Bretonian *** age of their protolith and the metamorphism are still not *** the zircon U-Pb LA-ICP-MS dating two age populations of zircons have been distinguished in the rocks of the Beshta-Kamenistaya *** age of the main population of zircons from orthogneisses is 426-300 *** age groups can be distinguished in this *** main group yielded a Concordia age of386.9±1.4 *** are also smaller peaks at 409-405,375-373,and 351 *** oldest ages(426-395 Ma)were detected in the core parts of the complex *** assume that the crystallization of the parental for orthogneisses rocks(tonalities)took place at 410-395 Ma,whereas the Concordia age of 386.9±1.4 Ma and a peak at 375-373 Ma correspond to the metamorphic *** whole metamorphic cycle,including progressive and regressive stages,occurred between 395 and 370 ***,dated in the Beshta-Kamenistaya intrusion at350 Ma and younger,correspond to the Late Variscan *** dated 3102-2769 Ma represent xenocrysts captured by the melts during their formation from the ancient rocks in the crystalline basement.

Ground motion prediction equations based on shallow crustal earthquakes in Georgia and the surrounding Caucasus

Strong ground motions caused by earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 3.5 to 6.9 and hypocentral distances of up to 300km were recorded by local broadband stations and three-component accelerograms within Georgia’s enhanced digital seismic *** data mixing is particularly effective in areas where strong ground motion data are *** data were used to produce models based on ground-motion prediction equations(GMPEs),one benefit of which is that they take into consideration information from waveforms across a wide range of *** this study,models were developed to predict ground motions for peak ground acceleration and 5%-damped pseudo-absolute-acceleration spectra for periods between 0.01 and 10 ***-period ground motions decayed faster than long-period motions,though decay was still in the order of approximately 1/*** mechanisms and local soil conditions greatly influence *** spectral acceleration(SA)of thrust faults was higher than that for either strike-slip or normal faults but the influence of strike-slip faulting on SA was slightly greater than that for normal *** soils also caused significantly more amplification than rocky sites.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Triggered by Acute Pancreatitis: A Case Report

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a heart condition that is widely known to be caused by stress. It presents with symptoms that are similar to a myocardial infarction even though the coronary arteries are clear. This case report details the clinical characteristics, diagnostic assessment, and management plan of a 55-year-old male patient with a past medical history of alcoholism who arrived at the emergency department with the typical symptoms of acute pancreatitis. The case demonstrates the progression of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, which was triggered by acute pancreatitis in the context of alcoholism, and underlines the significance of early detection and management to enhance the patient’s outcomes.

Integration of Geophysical and Geotechnical Soil Characteristics for Local Site Seismic Design in Georgia

Recently, number of new constructions and engineering projects increased in Georgia, especially in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Because of significant seismic activity of Caucasus region, seismic hazard assessment is very important issue for seismic-designing of engineering projects. Due to modern building codes, complex study of the local area is crucial for proper design of any type of constructions. Among them, following studies should be performed: probabilistic seismic hazard assessment, geological, geotechnical, geophysical, etc. After that, all information should be merged to each other and taken into account while designing of the project. In this paper, location of one construction site was selected as an application of complex study in order to show how can be merged different studies to each other. At the beginning, geological survey (well drilling) and geotechnical studies including laboratory tests were performed. Then geophysical profiling and downhole tests in wells were done by obtaining direct and shear wave velocities including estimation of physical-mechanical parameters. Next, probabilistic seismic hazard assessment and site-depended seismic hazard assessment were performed based on all information obtained by different studies. As a result, influence of local soil amplification on seismic hazard assessment is shown for the study area.
