Lithium-metal batteries with high energy/power densities have significant applications in electronics,electric vehicles,and stationary power plants.However,the unstable lithium-metal-anode/electrolyte interface has induced insufficient cycle life and safety issues.To improve the cycle life and safety,understanding the formation of the solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)and growth of lithium dendrites near the anode/electrolyte interface,regulating the electrodeposition/electrostripping processes of Li^(+),and developing multiple approaches for protecting the lithium-metal surface and SEI layer are crucial and necessary.This paper comprehensively reviews the research progress in SEI and lithium dendrite growth in terms of their classical electrochemical lithium plating/stripping processes,interface interaction/nucleation processes,anode geometric evolution,fundamental electrolyte reduction mechanisms,and effects on battery performance.Some important aspects,such as charge transfer,the local current distribution,solvation,desolvation,ion diffusion through the interface,inhibition of dendrites by the SEI,additives,models for dendrite formation,heterogeneous nucleation,asymmetric processes during stripping/plating,the host matrix,and in situ nucleation characterization,are also analyzed based on experimental observations and theoretical calculations.Several technical challenges in improving SEI properties and reducing lithium dendrite growth are analyzed.Furthermore,possible future research directions for overcoming the challenges are also proposed to facilitate further research and development toward practical applications.

Water electrolysis is a sustainable approach for hydrogen production by using electricity from clean energy sources.However,both the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)associated with water electrolysis are kinetically sluggish,leading to low efficiency in corresponding electrolysis devices.In addition,current electrocatalysts that can catalyze both HER and OER to practical rates require noble metals such as platinum that are low in abundance and high in price,severely limiting commercialization.As a result,the development of high-performance and cost-effective non-noble metal electrocatalysts to replace noble ones has intensified.Based on this,this review will comprehensively present recent research in the design,synthesis,characterization and performance validation/optimization of non-noble metal HER electrocatalysts and analyze corresponding catalytic mechanisms.Moreover,several important types of non-noble metal electrocatalysts including zero-dimensional,one-dimensional,two-dimensional and three-dimensional materials are presented with an emphasis on morphology/structure,synergetic interaction between metal and support,catalytic property and HER activity/stability.Furthermore,existing technical challenges are summarized and corresponding research directions are proposed toward practical application.

Cold dwell fatigue is the critical technological issue in Ti alloys used in the cooler front sections of aerospace jet engines.When subjected to a sustained load(stress dwell),the lifetime of these Ti components can be drastically reduced by as much as an order of magnitude[1–4].Without a clear understanding of the effect,safety concerns are raised.

Dosimetric Effects of a Commercial Breast Board patient Support System

Aim: In prone breast treatments, a carbon fiber support device resides under the contralateral breast. Tangent beams are designed to encompass the treated breast and these often pass through the board at a shallow angle, resulting in significant attenuation. Our planners account for this attenuation by adding field-in-field dose to the deep part of the breast, through the board. Concern was raised about how accurate the treatment delivery is when the inherent uncertainties of patients’ positions are accounted for. Furthermore, transmission measurements are usually carried out perpendicular to the board, a non-clinical situation. The goal of this study is to evaluate the dosimetric effect of the board and the robustness of the plan to positional uncertainty. Materials and Methods: Twenty-two breast patients treated on a commercial prone breast board between 2017 and 2020 were selected for this retrospective study. To evaluate the board’s attenuation, we compared the plans with the board removed from the dose calculation. To quantify the robustness of this technique, we moved the beam isocenter with respect to the patient and board. Results: Our results showed that when the breast board is removed from a plan which was designed to account for the board attenuation, the average point dose increases by 7.48%, with a maximum of 22%. Comparing results with a mixed Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and a least-square means analysis, our robustness evaluation indicates that anterior shifts at every magnitude (1 mm through 5 mm) make a significant difference in all dose statistics (D95, max, 95% prescription coverage and homogeneity index) investigated. In/out and right/left shifts resulted in an insignificant change in dose statistics. Conclusion: prone breast boards can add significant dosimetric uncertainty into the treatment delivery process. Accounting for plan robustness in the design of the plan is highly recommended. A prone breast board design with support moved away from the beam path is warranted.

A network-based cognitive training induces cognitive improvements and neuroplastic changes in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis:an exploratory case-control study

Cognitive impairments are commonly observed in patients with multiple sclerosis and are associated with lower levels of quality of life.No consensus has been reached on how to tackle effectively cognitive decline in this clinical population non-pharmacologically.This exploratory case-control study aims to investigate the effectiveness of a hypothesis-based cognitive training designed to target multiple domains by promoting the synchronous co-activation of different brain areas and thereby improve cognition and induce changes in functional connectivity in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.Forty-five patients(36 females and 9 males,mean age 44.62±8.80 years)with clinically stable relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis were assigned to either a standard cognitive training or to control groups(sham training and nonactive control).The standard training included twenty sessions of computerized exercises involving various cognitive functions supported by distinct brain networks.The sham training was a modified version of the standard training that comprised the same exercises and number of sessions but with increased processing speed load.The non-active control group received no cognitive training.All patients underwent comprehensive neuropsychological and magnetic resonance imaging assessments at baseline and after 5 weeks.Cognitive and resting-state magnetic resonance imaging data were analyzed using repeated measures models.At reassessment,the standard training group showed significant cognitive improvements compared to both control groups in memory tasks not specifically targeted by the training:the Buschke Selective Reminding Test and the Semantic Fluency test.The standard training group showed reductions in functional connectivity of the salience network,in the anterior cingulate cortex,associated with improvements on the Buschke Selective Reminding Test.No changes were observed in the sham training group.These findings suggest that multi-domain training that stimulates multiple brain areas sync

Anisotropy of mechanical properties and crystallographic texture in hot rolled AZ31+XSr sheets

The influences of Sr on the microstructure,texture and mechanical properties including flow and anisotropy behavior of AZ31 alloys are investigated.Slabs containing no,0.4 and 0.8 wt%of strontium were cast and subjected to hot rolling.Results indicate that Sr reduces the basal texture intensity(23%in the AZ31+0.8Sr alloy)and homogenizes the distribution of strain in uniaxial tension.Furthermore,Sr increases both the strength coefficient and the strain hardening exponent in all directions.In the transverse direction,enhancements are more significant.Moreover,Sr enhances the combination of tensile strength and total elongation;i.e.,toughness,whether tests are performed parallel to the rolling,diagonal or transverse directions,to significant extents.

Group A streptococcal antigen exposed rat model to investigate neurobehavioral and cardiac complications associated with post-streptococcal autoimmune sequelae

Background:The neuropsychiatric disorders due to post-streptococcal autoimmune complications such as Sydenham's chorea(SC)are associated with acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease(ARF/RHD).An animal model that exhibits char-acteristics of both cardiac and neurobehavioral defects in ARF/RHD would be an important adjunct for future studies.Since age,gender,strain differences,and geno-types impact on the development of autoimmunity,we investigated the behavior of male and female Wistar and Lewis rat strains in two age cohorts(6 weeks and 12 weeks)under normal husbandry conditions and following exposure to group A streptococcus(GAS).Methods:Standard behavioral assessments were performed to determine the impair-ments in fine motor control(food manipulation test),gait and balance(beam walk-ing test),and obsessive-compulsive behavior(grooming and marble burying tests).Furthermore,electrocardiography,histology,and behavioral assessments were per-formed on male and female Lewis rats injected with GAS antigens.Results:For control Lewis rats there were no significant age and gender dependent differences in marble burying,food manipulation,beam walking and grooming be-haviors.In contrast significant age-dependent differences were observed in Wistar rats in all the behavioral tests except for food manipulation.Therefore,Lewis rats were selected for further experiments to determine the effect of GAS.After ex-posure to GAS,Lewis rats demonstrated neurobehavioral abnormalities and cardiac pathology akin to SC and ARF/RHD,respectively.Conclusion:We have characterised a new model that provides longitudinal stability of age-dependent behavior,to simultaneously investigate both neurobehavioral and cardiac abnormalities associated with post-streptococcal complications.

有壳虫(Testacea)是一类常见的自由生活的原生动物,在生态系统物质循环和能量流动中发挥重要作用。作者在分析地球三极(北极、南极、西藏)地区有壳虫种类名录(62属315种)基础上,对有壳虫区系特征、地理分布及其影响因素进行了研究。结果显示,北极地区已记录25科51属232种;南极地区20科30属131种;西藏地区22科42属173种。三个地区物种丰富度最高的属均为砂壳虫属(Difflugia)、匣壳虫属(Centropyxis)、梨壳虫属(Nebela)、鳞壳虫属(Euglypha)和表壳虫属(Arcella);5个属的种数分别占北极、南极、西藏总种数的51.3%、63.4%和60.1%。此外,3个地区共有种数是73(23.2%),共有属数是24(38.7%);仅在1个地区记录的种数是167种(53.0%)。在三极地区40个亚区域,苔藓鳞盖虫(Assulina muscorum)和旋匣壳虫(Centropyxis aerophila)的分布最广泛,出现频率均高达90%。聚类分析显示,三个地区种水平相似性系数为51.3-56.3%,属于中等相似,北极和西藏相似系数最大。相似性分析表明,虽然有壳虫具有较强的长距离被动扩散能力,但是一些大于100μm的种类不是全球性分布。有壳虫的地理分布格局与个体大小、生境类型、地质历史事件等密切相关,分析结果受物种鉴定标准、样品数量、空间尺度大小等因素影响。
