Introduction: Maternal mortality is a public health problem of more concern to developing countries. As part of improving the maternofoetal prognosis during pregnancy and childbirth, it is essential to carry out regular follow-ups of pregnant women (FE) through antenatal consultations (ANC). In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends at least four ANC at regular intervals during pregnancy. In Senegal the completion rate varies greatly depending on the region. In the District of Kédougou it was 41% in 2017 (DHIS2). The national target was not achieved despite the interventions. Thus we studied the determinants of CPN completion in the health district of Kedougou in 2017. Method: The study is of a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional type and concerned a sample of 884 women who gave birth between October 2017 and September 2018. They were chosen by a sample whose distribution in the district was made according to the quota method while respecting the demographic weight of each area of responsibility of the District. Results: The results of our study showed that the average age of women was 24 years with an average number of pregnancies equal to 3. The ANC completion rate at 37% was lower than the administrative data rate which was 41%. Introduction: Open surgery is gradually being supplanted by minimally invasive surgical techniques worldwide. Our study aimed to describe the place of minimally invasive surgery at the Hôpital Général Idrissa Pouye (HOGIP) in Dakar. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study over a 20-years period from 1st June 2000 to 31st December 2021 in the urology department of HOGIP in Dakar. The list of all surgical procedures performed was computed. We evaluated the distribution of minimally invasive procedures (endoscopy, PCNL, laparoscopy) overall and over the years. We made calculations of proportions and statistical significance was considered for alpha = 0.05. Results: In 20 years, 14,855 surgical procedures were performed, of which 5344 (36%) were minimally invasive surgeries. The average age of men was 53.19 years (standard deviation: 21.77) vs 47.32 years (standard deviation: 18.43) for women. Minimally invasive procedures in the lower urinary tract accounted for 71.93% and involved 1033 cystoscopies (26.87%), 1020 Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) (26.53%), 931 Direct Vision Internal Urethrotomy (DVIU) (24.21%, and 612 Trans Urethral Resection of the Bladder (TURB) (15.92%). In the upper urinary tract, 1461 (28.07%) minimally invasive procedures were performed, including PCNL in 193 cases (3.61%), laser endopyelotomy in 104 cases (1.95%), ureteroscopy in 486 cases (1.7%) and laparoscopy in 39 cases (0.46%). The proportion of minimally invasive surgery has gradually increased. Among the 5344 minimally invasive procedures, 333 (5.23%) were performed in 2000-2004 and 2332 (43.63%) in 2015-2019. Conclusion: Minimally invasive surgery represents an important part of the activity of the HOGIP urology department. Its development has improved over the years offering its advantages to the patients.

Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of genital trichomoniasis in Senegal. It sought to determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with this condition in Senegal. Methodology: The study took place at the university hospital of Pikine in the suburbs of Dakar. For each of the women recruited, socio-demographic data, clinical examination data and the results of direct examination of the vaginal sample were collected in a questionnaire designed for this purpose. Results: A total of 312 women with a mean age of 31.13 (±8.41) years were recruited in this study. The majority of these women (59.94%;95% CI = 54.25 - 65.38), were seen for an infectious diseases assessment. Leucorrhea (58.33%;95% CI = 52.63 - 63.83) and genital discharge on vaginal touch (99.36%;95% CI = 97.45 - 99.89) were the predominant signs on clinical examination. The overall prevalence of vaginal trichomoniasis after direct examination of the specimens was 1.28% (95% CI = 0.41 - 3.47). Only the distribution of this prevalence by occupation was statistically significant (p = 0.0004). Conclusion: The low prevalence of genital trichomoniasis in women and the risk factors associated with it found in this study, which took place about ten years ago, should prompt an update of the data to better define the problem in Senegal.

Introduction: Facial emphysema is the presence of air in the subcutaneous tissues of the facial region. They can be clinically recognized by the crackling sensation felt when the affected area is palpated. Observation: The authors describe left orbito-facial emphysema that occurred after a violent sneezing episode in a 36-year-old patient. He had significant edema of the left facial and ipsilateral periorbital region associated with major emphysema and complete closure of the left eye. Nasal cavities endoscopy revealed inflammation of the distal orifice of the nasolacrimal duct. The clinical ophthalmologic examination performed in emergency showed left chemosis, slight ocular hypertonia of mechanical origin, and a slight decrease in visual acuity. Pupillary reflexes and retinography were normal. A craniofacial computed tomography (CT) revealed a significant left orbital emphysema, a fracture of the left medial orbital wall (ethmoidal lamina papyracea) with intraconal fat incarceration without entrapment of the medial rectus and significant air infiltration of all the left hemifacial soft tissues. A broad-spectrum antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment were instituted, as well as practical advice to prevent a recurrence. We observed progressive resorption of the edema with a return to the normal of the soft tissues and the palpebral cleft in 15 days. Conclusion: These atypical cases can be serious. It is essential to exclude signs of visual deficit and ocular compression. Multidisciplinary management is important.
