Abstract In many animal species, males direct more intense courtship towards females they have not previously encountered, than towards females with which they have previously mated. To test the factors responsible for this ＂Coolidge Effect＂, we need studies on a wide range of taxa - including those with mating systems in which we would not expect （based on current theory） that such an effect would be evident. The Coolidge Effect has been documented in several lizard species, but has not been looked for （and would not be expected） in snakes. We conducted experimental trials with red-sided garter snakes Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis at a communal den in Manitoba, to see whether previous exposure to a female （either courting, or courting plus mating） modified male mate choice or courtship intensity. In keeping with prediction from theory （but contrary to an early anecdotal report）, male garter snakes did not modify their courtship behaviour based upon their familiarity （or lack thereof） with a specific female. At least in large courting aggregations, male snakes may maximize their fitness by basing mate-choice upon immediate attributes of the female （body size, condition, mated status） and the intensity of competition （numbers and sizes of rival males） rather than information derived from previous sexual encounters .

AIM： To investigate the effect of chronic inflammatory bowel disease （CIBD） specific risk factors for cholecystolithiasis, as duration and involvement pattern of the disease and prior surgery in patients with Crohn＇s disease （CD） and ulcerative colitis （UC）. METHODS： A total of 222 patients with CD （135 females, 87 males, average age, 35.8±11.8 years; range 17-81 years） and 88 patients with UC （39 females, 49 males; average age, 37.2±13.6 years; range 16-81 years） underwent clinical and ultrasound examinations. Besides age, sex and degree of obesity, patients＇ CIBD specific parameters, including duration and extent of disease and prior operations were documented and evaluated statistically using logistic regression. RESLTLTS： The overall prevalence of gallbladder stone disease in patients with CD was 13% （n = 30）. Only age could be shown to be an independent risk factor （P = 0.014）. Compared to a collective representative for the general population in the same geographic region, the prevalence of cholecystolithiasis was higher in all corresponding age groups. Patients with UC showed an overall prevalence of gallbladder stone disease of only 4.6%. CONCLUSION：Only age but not disease-specific factors such as duration and extent of disease, and prior surgery are independent risk factors for the development of cholecystolithiasis in patients with CIBD.

目的呼吸防护在医疗卫生工作中至关重要,应使用适当的颗粒过滤呼吸器和等效的呼吸防护用品,以确保良好的佩戴气密性,最大限度地降低医务人员的空气传播感染风险。该文旨在对呼吸防护用品适合性检验和密合性检查有效性研究进行综述和分析。方法系统检索了2003年1月至2022年4月发表的文献,检索范围包括CINAHL、Cochrane图书馆、EMBASE、PubMed、Ovid数据库Medline子库和灰色文献。研究方案已在PROSPERO注册(CRD42020213968)。结果共检索出561篇文献,25篇被纳入该综述,包括22项量性研究和3篇指南文献。在评估呼吸防护用品的有效性方面,适合性检验是更有效且被广泛采用的可靠方法,但呼吸防护程序应该同时包括适合性检验和密合性检查,以最大限度地提高呼吸防护用品的有效性。新型冠状病毒疫情凸显了医务人员相关知识的缺乏,相关教育培训可有效提高呼吸防护用品使用的有效性。结论为确保医务工作者的安全,适合性测试和密合性检查均应采用。建议由专业人员实施全面的呼吸防护项目,包括教育培训、适合性测试和密合性检查,还需要探索适用于实际使用环境的适合性检验方法。

The purpose of this paper falls within the theoretical framework of green marketing. It investigates the relationships that exist between the motives relating to aquacultural products marketed under the private label of a traditional retailer （Coop）, the attitude towards their purchase, the perception of their quality, their reliability and the willingness to pay for them. Particular importance is given to the green motives, those that lead to a preference for a product made with specific renewable energies such as biogas. The structural equation models （SEM） technique is used to develop propositions representing a theoretical approach to the integration of green marketing, in the context of the process for purchasing Coop brand fish. With regard to distinguishing between the motives, we referred to the approach that sets out three different types of motive： clean, green and ethical. The resulting managerial implications make it possible to assess how much the different types of motive influence the choices of the consumers. Managers will benefit from the results of this paper by understanding better the benefits for consumers of aquacultural products from renewable energy such as biogas. The originality of the paper lies in its focusing on green purchase behaviour in a poorly investigated sector such as that of fish breeding. The paper contributes to an understanding of the factors that influence environmentally responsible purchase behaviour and their exact relationships, that are still unclear in literature. The fact that environmental issues and concerns are constantly changing implies that ongoing research into their influence on consumer behaviour is essential

Efficiency of Plating Media and Enrichment Broths for Isolating <i>Salmonella</i>Species from Human Stool Samples: A Comparison Study

A comparative study was performed to evaluate best practice culture media and enrichment broths for recovering Salmonella species from human stool samples. A total of 1297 human stools were collected and processed in this study. Evaluation of agar media was carried out by direct plating (DP), 1096 stool samples were inoculated on Modified Semisolid Rappaport-Vassiliadis (MSRV), Xylose-Lysine-Deoxycolate (XLD), MacConkey (MAC), and Hektoen Enteric (HE) agars. Evaluation of enrichment broths were carried out by enrichment all 1297 stool samples in Selenite broth (SB), Rappaport-Vassiliadis (RV) broth, and Buffered Peptone Water (BPW), followed by plating on MSRV, MAC, and HE agars. A total of 102 Salmonella-positive stools by DP, 85.3% (87/102) were recovered utilizing MSRV while recovery from XLD, MAC, and HE agars were 34.3% (35/102), 34.3% (35/102), and 29.4% (30/102) respectively. A total 299/1297 stools samples were Salmonella-positive on at least one plating medium after enrichment procedure were 77.3% (177/299) for SB, 86.0% (197/299) and 78.6% (180/299) for RV and BPW respectively. All Salmonella isolated in this study was nontyphi Salmonella. Presently, the data suggest that the use of MSRV over MAC, HE, and XLD agars for isolation nontyphi Salmonella species from human stools is more efficacious. Additionally, use of MSRV in combination with MAC and HE agars following enrichment in RV broth enhances recovery of nontyphi Salmonella species. However, RV broth is inhibitory to typhi Salmonella, thus use of MSRV medium in combination with MAC, HE or XLD agars in direct plating following enrichment in non-selective BPW is an alternate method for recovery of both typhi and nontyphi Salmonella species contaminated in human stool samples.

中国北方沙漠和沙地是亚洲粉尘释放的重要源区,定量估算这一地区的粉尘释放量有助于评估区域大气环境质量及其气候效应.目前,对中国北方粉尘释放量的估算主要是基于模拟结果,野外直接观测数据很少.利用一种新型的粉尘释放观测仪器——便携式粉尘观测仪（PI-SWERL）,测量腾格里沙漠和毛乌素沙地若干典型地表（沙丘、干湖、灌丛沙丘、河流冲积物等）的粉尘释放通量,获得了不同地表潜在粉尘释放量的直接观测数据.结果表明,不同地表的PM10释放通量存在较大差异,但均随摩阻风速的增加而增加.在相同的摩阻风速U＊=0.55 m/s条件下,灌丛沙丘的PM10通量最高（0.70~10.23 mg/（m2 s））,河流冲积物次之（0.12~4.97 mg/（m2 s））,干湖湖底、沙丘等地表的通量较小（〈0.5 mg/（m2 s））.对比试验表明,破碎结壳地表释放的PM10通量是未破碎结壳的几倍甚至几十倍;披覆松散沙粒结壳地面的PM10释放通量高出未披覆的1~2个数量级.对比前人研究结果,PI-SWERL可以较好地反映不同源区粉尘释放的差异,对定量评估区域乃至全球的粉尘释放量等具有重要意义.
