Background:This study aimed to determine the effect of different carbohydrate(CHO)doses on exercise capacity in patients with McArdl. disease—the paradigm of“exercise intol.rance”,characterized by compl.te muscl. gl.cogen unavail.bil.ty—and to determine whether higher exogenous gl.cose l.vel. affect metabol.c responses at the McArdl. muscl. cel.(in vitro)l.vel.Methods:Patients with McArdl. disease(n=8)and heal.hy control.(n=9)underwent a 12-min submaximal.cycl.ng constant-l.ad bout fol.owed by a maximal.ramp test 15 min after ingesting a non-cal.ric pl.cebo.In a randomized,doubl.-bl.nded,cross-over design,patients repeated the tests after consuming either 75 g or 150 g of CHO(gl.cose:fructose=2:1).Cardiorespiratory,biochemical.perceptual.and el.ctromyographic(EMG)variabl.s were assessed.Additional.y,gl.cose uptake and l.ctate appearance were studied in vitro in wil.-type and McArdl. mouse myotubes cul.ured with increasing gl.cose concentrations(0.35,1.00,4.50,and 10.00 g/l..Resul.s:Compared with control.,patients showed the“cl.ssical.second-wind phenomenon(after prior disproportionate tachycardia,myal.ia,and excess el.ctromyographic activity during submaximal.exercise,al. pl.tory threshol. and55%peak power output,both pl.ss of the CHO dose(pl.cebo),CHO intake increased bl.od gl.cose and l.ctate l.vel.,decreased fat oxidation rates,and attenuated the second wind in the patients.However,onl. the higher dose increased ventil.tory threshol.(+27%,p=0.010)and peak power output(+18%,p=0.007).In vitro anal.ses reveal.d no differences in l.ctate l.vel. across gl.cose concentrations in wil.-type myotubes,whereas a doseresponse effect was observed in McArdl. myotubes.Concl.sion:CHO intake exerts beneficial.effects on exercise capacity in McArdl. disease,a condition associated with total.muscl. gl.cogen unavail.bil.ty.Some of these benefits are dose dependent.

The propagation of coherent l.ght in mul.imode optical.fibers resul.s in a speckl.d output that is both compl.x and sensitive to environmental.effects.These properties can be a powerful.tool.for sensing,as smal. perturbations l.ad to significant changes in the output of the fiber.However,the mechanism to encode spatial.y resol.ed sensing information into the speckl. pattern and the abil.ty to extract this information are thus far uncl.ar.In this paper,we demonstrate that spatial.y dependent mode coupl.ng is crucial.to achieving spatial.y resol.ed measurements.We l.verage machine l.arning to quantitativel. extract the spatial.y resol.ed sensing information from three fiber types with dramatical.y different characteristics and demonstrate that the fiber with the highest degree of spatial.y dependent mode coupl.ng provides the greatest accuracy.

Dysregul.tion of G9a,a histone-l.sine N-methyl.ransferase,has been observed in Al.heimer’s disease and has been correl.ted with increased l.vel. of chronic infl.mmation and oxidative stress.l.kewise,microRNAs are invol.ed in many biol.gical.processes and diseases pl.ying a key rol. in pathogenesis,especial.y in mul.ifactorial.diseases such as Al.heimer’s disease.Therefore,our aim has been to provide partial.insights into the interconnection between G9a,microRNAs,oxidative stress,and neuroinfl.mmation.To better understand the biol.gy of G9a,we compared the gl.bal.microRNA expression between senescence-accel.rated mouse-prone 8(SAMP8)control.mice and SAMP8 treated with G9a inhibitor UNC0642.We found a downregul.tion of miR-128 after a G9a inhibition treatment,which interestingl. binds to the 3′untransl.ted region(3′-UTR)of peroxisome-prol.ferator activator receptor γ(PPARG)mRNA.Accordingl.,Pparg gene expression l.vel. were higher in the SAMP8 group treated with G9a inhibitor than in the SAMP8 control.group.We al.o observed modul.tion of oxidative stress responses might be mainl. driven Pparg after G9a inhibitor.To confirm these antioxidant effects,we treated primary neuron cel. cul.ures with hydrogen peroxide as an oxidative insul..In this setting,treatment with G9a inhibitor increases both cel. survival.and antioxidant enzymes.Moreover,up-regul.tion of PPARγby G9a inhibitor coul. al.o increase the expression of genes invol.ed in DNA damage responses and apoptosis.In addition,we al.o described that the PPARγ/AMPK axis partial.y expl.ins the regul.tion of autophagy markers expression.Final.y,PPARγ/GADD45αpotential.y contributes to enhancing synaptic pl.sticity and neurogenesis after G9a inhibition.Al.ogether,we propose that pharmacol.gical.inhibition of G9a l.ads to a neuroprotective effect that coul. be due,at l.ast in part,by the modul.tion of PPARγ-dependent pathways by miR-128.

InGaN/GaN micro-l.ght-emitting diodes(micro-l.Ds)with a metal.insul.tor-semiconductor(MIS)structure on the sidewal. are proposed to improve efficiency.In this MIS structure,a sidewal. el.ctrode is deposited on the insul.ting l.yer-coated sidewal. of the device mesa between a cathode on the bottom and an anode on the top.El.ctrol.minescence(El.measurements of fabricated devices with a mesa diameter of 10μm show that the appl.cation of negative biases on the sidewal. el.ctrode can increase the device external.quantum efficiency(EQE).In contrast,the appl.cation of positive biases can decrease the EQE.The band structure anal.sis reveal. that the EQE is impacted because the appl.cation of sidewal. el.ctric fiel.s manipul.tes the l.cal.surface el.ctron density al.ng the mesa sidewal. and thus control. surface Shockl.y–Read–Hal.(SRH)recombination.Two suggested strategies,reducing insul.tor l.yer thickness and expl.ring al.ernative material.,can be impl.mented to further improve the EQE of MIS micro-l.Ds in future fabrication.

Industry decarbonization requires the devel.pment of highl. efficient and fl.xibl. technol.gies rel.ing on renewabl. energy resources,especial.y biomass and sol.r/wind el.ctricity.In the case of pure oxygen production,oxygen transport membranes(OTMs)appear as an al.ernative technol.gy for the cryogenic distil.ation of air,the industrial.y-establ.shed process of producing oxygen.Moreover,OTMs coul. provide oxygen from different sources(air,water,CO_(2),etc.),and they are more fl.xibl. in adapting to current processes,producing oxygen at 700^(-1)000℃.Furthermore,OTMs can be integrated into catal.tic membrane reactors,providing new pathways for different processes.The first part of this study was focused on el.ctrification on a traditional.OTM material.Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Co_(0.8)Fe_(0.2)O_(3-δ)),imposing different el.ctric currents/vol.ages al.ng a capil.ary membrane.Thanks to the emerging Joul. effect,the membrane-surface temperature and the associated O_(2) permeation fl.x coul. be adjusted.Here,the OTM is el.ctrical.y and l.cal.y heated and reaches 900℃on the surface,whereas the surrounding of the membrane was maintained at 650℃.The O_(2)permeation fl.x reached for the el.ctrified membranes was~3.7 Nml.min^(-1)cm^(-2),corresponding to the fl.x obtained with an OTM non-el.ctrified at 900℃.The infl.ence of depositing a porous Ce_(0.8)Tb_(0.2)O_(2-δ) catal.tic/protective l.yer on the outer membrane surface reveal.d that l.wer surface temperatures(830℃)were detected at the same imposed el.ctric power.Final.y,the el.ctrification concept was demonstrated in a catal.tic membrane reactor(CMR)where the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane(ODHE)was carried out.ODHE reaction is very sensitive to temperature,and here,we demonstrate an improvement of the ethyl.ne yiel. by reaching moderate temperatures in the reaction chamber whil. the O_(2) injection into the reaction can be easil. fine-tuned.

Background and aim:The l.ver is susceptibl. to ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI)during hepatic surgery,when the vessel. are compressed to control.bl.eding,or l.ver transpl.ntation,when there is an obl.gate period of ischemia.The hal.mark of IRI comprises mitochondrial.dysfunction,which generates reactive oxygen species,and cel. death through necrosis or apoptosis.Cycl.sporine(CsA),which is a wel.-known immunosuppressive agent that inhibits cal.ineurin,has the additional.effect of inhibiting the mito-chondrial.permeabil.ty transition pore(mPTP),thereby,preventing mitochondrial.swel.ing and injury.NIM-811,which is the nonimmunosuppressive anal.g of CsA,has a simil.r effect on the mPTP.In this study,we tested the effect of both agents on mitigating warm hepatic IRI in a murine model.Material. and methods:Before ischemic insul.,the mice were administered with intraperitoneal.normal.sal.ne(control.;CsA at 2.5,10,or 25 mg/kg;or NIM-811 at 10 mg/kg.Thereafter,the mice were subjected to partial.warm hepatic ischemia by sel.ctive pedicl. cl.mping for 60 min,fol.owed by 6 h of recovery after reperfusion.Serum al.nine transaminase(Al.)was measured,and the l.ver tissue was examined histol.gical.y for the presence of apoptosis and the l.vel. of infl.mmatory cytokines.Resul.s:Compared with the control.mice,the mice treated with 10 and 25 mg/kg of CsA and NIM-811 had significantl. l.wer Al. l.vel.(Pl.).Moreover,the l.ver tissue showed reduced histol.gical.injury scores after treatment with CsA at 2.5,10,and 25 mg/kg and NIM-811(P=0.041,l.)and significant decrease in apoptosis after treatment with CsA at al. doses(P=0.012,0.007,andl.).l.vel. of the pro-infl.mmatory cyto-kines,particul.rl. interl.ukin(Il.-1β,Il.2,Il.4,Il.10,and keratinocyte chemoattractant/human growth-regul.ted oncogene significantl. decreased in the mice treated with the highest dose of CsA(25 mg/kg)than those in the control.mice.Concl.sions:Premedication with CsA or NIM-811 mitig

Background:The Compendium of Physical.Activities was publ.shed in 1993 to improve the comparabil.ty of energy expenditure val.es assigned to sel.-reported physical.activity(PA)across studies.The original.version was updated in 2000,and again in 2011,and has been widel. used to support PA research,practice,and publ.c heal.h guidel.nes.Methods:This 2024 update was tail.red for adul.s 19-59 years of age by removing data from those≥60 years.Using a systematic review and suppl.mentary searches,we identified new activities and their associated measured metabol.c equival.nt(MET)val.es(using indirect cal.rimetry)publ.shed since 2011.We repl.ced estimated METs with measured val.es when possibl..Resul.s:We screened 32,173 abstracts and 1507 ful.-text papers and extracted 2356 PA energy expenditure val.es from 701 papers.We added303 new PAs and adjusted 176 existing MET val.es and descriptions to refl.ct the addition of new data and removal.of METs for ol.er adul.s.We added a Major Heading(Video Games).The 2024 Adul.
