Background Large-river decision-makers are charged with maintaining diverse ecosystem services through unprec-edented social-ecological transformations as climate change and other global stressors *** interconnected,dendritic habitats of rivers,which often demarcate jurisdictional boundaries,generate complex management ***,we explore how the Resist–Accept–Direct(RAD)framework may enhance large-river management by promoting coordinated and deliberate responses to social-ecological trajectories of *** RAD frame-work identifies the full decision space of potential management approaches,wherein managers may resist change to maintain historical conditions,accept change toward different conditions,or direct change to a specified future with novel *** the Upper Mississippi River System,managers are facing social-ecological transformations from more frequent and extreme high-water *** illustrate how RAD-informed basin-,reach-,and site-scale decisions could:(1)provide cross-spatial scale framing;(2)open the entire decision space of potential management approaches;and(3)enhance coordinated inter-jurisdictional management in response to the trajectory of the Upper Mississippi River *** The RAD framework helps identify plausible long-term trajectories in different reaches(or subbasins)of the river and how the associated social-ecological transformations could be managed by altering site-scale *** reach-scale objectives may reprioritize how,where,and when site conditions could be altered to contribute to the basin goal,given the basin’s plausible trajectories of change(e.g.,by coordinating action across sites to alter habitat connectivity,diversity,and redundancy in the river mosaic).Conclusions When faced with long-term systemic transformations(e.g.,>50 years),the RAD framework helps explicitly consider whether or when the basin vision or goals may no longer be achievable,and direct options may open y

We show that when A is a separable C*-algebra,every countably generated Hilbert A-module is projective（with bounded module maps as morphisms）.We also study the approximate extensions of bounded module *** the case where A is a σ-unital simple C*-algebra with strict comparison,and every strictly positive lower semicontinuous affine function on quasitraces can be realized as the rank of an element in the Cuntz semigroup,we show that the Cuntz semigroup is equivalent to unitarily equivalent classes of countably generated Hilbert A-modules if and only if A has stable rank one.

Many newly observed phenotypes are first described,then experimentally *** language-based descriptions appear in both the literature and in community *** standardize phenotypic descriptions and enable simple data aggregation and analysis,controlled vocabularies and specific data architectures have been *** simplified descriptions have several advantages over natural language:they can be rigorously defined for a particular context or problem,they can be assigned and interpreted programmatically,and they can be organized in a way that allows for semantic reasoning(inference of implicit facts).Because researchers generally report phenotypes in the literature using natural language,curators have been translating phenotypic descriptions into controlled vocabularies for decades to make the information ***,this methodology is highly dependent on human curation,which does not scale to the scope of all publications available across all of plant ***,researchers in other domains have been working to enable computation on natural *** has resulted in new,automated methods for computing on language that are now available,with early analyses showing great *** language processing(NLP)coupled with machine learning(ML)allows for the use of unstructured language for direct analysis of phenotypic ***,we have found that these automated methods can be used to create data structures that perform as well or better than those generated by human curators on tasks such as predicting gene function and biochemical pathway ***,we describe current and ongoing efforts to provide tools for the plant phenomics community to explore novel predictions that can be generated using these *** also describe how these methods could be used along with mobile speech-to-text tools to collect and analyze in-field spoken phenotypic descriptions for association genetics and breedin

＜正＞Alcohol dependence is a complex psychiatric disorder demanding development of novel pharmacotherapy. Since the cyclic AMP（cAMP） signaling cascade has been implicated in mediating the behavioral response to alcohol, it would be of interest to determine whether phosphodiesterase-4（PDE4）,an enzyme that selectively hydrolyzes intracellular cAMP,is involved in the regulation of alcohol ***,the selective PDE4 inhibitor rolipram was used to measure its anti-drinking properties in alcohol-preferring Fawn-Hooded（FH/Wjd） *** showed that acute administration of rolipram（0.05,0.1,and 0.2 mg/kg） selectively and dose-dependently reduced 5%ethanol, but not 10%sucrose,operant self-administration;it also decreased voluntary 5%ethanol intake,but not water consumption,for the initial 30 min in rats showing high stable preference for *** course assessment revealed the significant anti-drinking effect of rolipram（0.1,0.2 mg/kg） lasted for 5 h in both continuous- and intermittentaccess to 5%or 10%***,chronic rolipram treatment decreased 5%ethanol consumption and preference during the drug treatment *** effect lasted even after withdrawal of drug *** locomotor activity was inhibited by rolipram at 0.1 and 0.2 mg/kg,the effect was present only in the initial about 20 min,which did not seem to alter long-term ethanol *** data suggest that PDE4 may play a promising role in ethanol drinking and dependent *** may be a potential treatment target for further development of anti-drinking drugs.

Involvement of eicosanoids in the pathogenesis of pancreatic cancer: the roles of cyclooxygenase-2 and 5-lipoxygenase

The interplay between inflammation and cancer progression is a growing area of research. A combination of clinical, epidemiological, and basic science investigations indicate that there is a relationship between inflammatory changes in the pancreas and neoplastic progression. Diets high in ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids provide increased substrate for arachidonic acid metabolism by cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) to form eicosanoids. These eicosanoids directly contribute to pancreatic cancer cell proliferation. Both COX-2 and 5-LOX are upregulated in multiple cancer types, including pancreatic cancer. In vitro studies using pancreatic cancer cell lines have demonstrated upregulation of COX-2 and 5-LOX at both the mRNA and protein levels. When COX-2 and 5-LOX are blocked via a variety of mechanisms, cancer cell proliferation is abrogated both in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism of COX-2 has been shown to include effects on apoptosis as well as angiogenesis. 5-LOX has been implicated in apoptosis. The use of COX-2 and 5-LOX inhibitors in clinical studies in patients with pancreatic cancer has been limited. Patient enrollment has been restricted to those with advanced disease which makes evaluation of these drugs as chemopreventive agents difficult. COX-2 and 5-LOX expression have been shown to be present during the early neoplastic changes of pancreatic cancer, well before progression to invasive disease. This indicates that the ideal role for these interventions is early in the disease process as preventive agents, perhaps in patients with chronic pancreatitis or hereditary pancreatitis.
