Predicting surface deformation during mechanical attrition of metallic alloys

Extensive efforts have been devoted in both the engineering and scientific domains to seek new designs and processing techniques capable of making stronger and tougher *** such method for enhancing such damage-tolerance in metallic alloys is a surface nano-crystallization technology that involves the use of hundreds of small hard balls which are vibrated using high-power ultrasound so that they impact onto the surface of a material at high speed(termed Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment or SMAT).However,few studies have been devoted to the precise underlying mechanical mechanisms associated with this technology and the effect of processing *** SMAT is dynamic plastic deformation process,here we use random impact deformation as a means to investigate the relationship between impact deformation and the parameters involved in the processing,specifically ball size,impact velocity,ball density and kinetic *** analytical and numerical solutions,we examine the size of the indents and the depths of the associated plastic zones induced by random impacts,with results verified by experiment in austenitic stainless *** addition,global random impact and local impact frequency models are developed to analyze the statistical characteristics of random impact coverage,together with a description of the effect of random multiple impacts,which are more reflective of *** believe that these models will serve as a necessary foundation for further,and more energy-efficient,development of such surface nano-crystalline processing technologies for the strengthening of metallic materials.

Low Temperature Heat Capacities and Thermodynamic Properties of Zinc L-Threonate Zn(C_4H_7O_5)_2(s) by Adiabatic Calorimetry

Low-temperature heat capacities of the solid compound Zn（C4H7O5）2（s） were measured in a temperature range from 78 to 374 K, with an automated adiabatic calorimeter. A solid-to-solid phase transition occurred in the temperature range of 295？322 K. The peak temperature, the enthalpy, and entropy of the phase transition were determined to be （316.269±1.039） K, （11.194±0.335） kj？mol-1, and （35.391±0.654） j？K-1？mol-1, respectively. The experimental values of the molar heat capacities in the temperature regions of 78？295 K and 322？374 K were fitted to two polynomial equations of heat capacities（Cp,m） with reduced temperatures（X） and [X = f（T）], with the help of the least squares method, respectively. The smoothed molar heat capacities and thermodynamic functions of the compound, relative to that of the standard reference temperature 293.15 K, were calculated on the basis of the fitted polynomials and tabulated with an interval of 5 K. In addition, the possible mechanism of thermal decomposition of the compound was inferred by the result of TG-DTG analysis.

High prevalence of viable Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis in Crohn's disease

AIM:To examine the detection rate of viable Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis(MAP) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease [Crohn's disease(CD) and ulcerative colitis(UC)].METHODS:Thirty patients with CD(15 with at least one NOD2/CARD15 mutation),29 with UC,and 10 with no inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).were tested for MAP by polymerase chain reaction(specific IS900 fragment) and blood ***:MAP DNA was detected in all original blood samples and 8-wk blood cultures(CD,UC and non-IBD).Positive MAP DNA status was confirmed by dot blot *** 69 cultures were negative by acid-fast Ziehl-Neelsen *** MAP,in spheroplast form,was isolated from the 18-mo blood cultures of all 30 CD patients,one UC patient,and none of the non-IBD *** association was found between positive MAP cultures and use of immunosuppressive drugs or CDassociated single nucleotide ***:MAP is widely present in our area and MAP DNA can be recovered from the blood of CD,UC and non-IBD ***,MAP spheroplasts were only found in CD patients.

The electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR),which can produce value-added chemical feedstocks,is a proton-coupled-electron process with sluggish ***,highly efficient,cheap catalysts are urgently *** metal oxides such as CoO_(x),FeO_(x),and NiO_(x)are low-cost,low toxicity,and abundant materials for a wide range of electrochemical reactions,but are almost inert for CO_(2)***,we report for the first time that nitrogen doped carbon nanotubes(N-CNT)have a surprising activation effect on the activity and selectivity of transition metal-oxide(MO_(x)where M=Fe,Ni,and Co)nanoclusters for CO_(2)***_(x)supported on N-CNT,MO_(x)/N-CNT,achieves a CO yield of 2.6–2.8 mmol cm−2 min−1 at an overpotential of−0.55 V,which is two orders of magnitude higher than MO_(x)supported on acid treated CNTs(MO_(x)/O-CNT)and four times higher than pristine *** faraday efficiency for electrochemical CO_(2)-to-CO conversion is as high as 90.3%at overpotential of 0.44 *** in-situ XAS measurements and DFT calculations disclose that MO_(x)nanoclusters can be hydrated in CO_(2)saturated KHCO_(3),and the N defects of N-CNT effectively stabilize these metal hydroxyl species under carbon dioxide reduction reaction conditions,which can split the water molecules and provide local protons to inhibit the poisoning of active sites under carbon dioxide reduction reaction conditions.

Betavoltaic cells(BCs)are promising self-generating power cells with long life and high power ***,the low energy conversion efficiency(ECE)has limitations in practical engineering *** semiconductors(WBGSs)with three-dimensional(3-D)nanostructures are ideal candidates for increasing the ECE of *** paper proposes hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorod arrays(ZNRAs)for ^(63)Ni-powered BCs.A quantitative model was established for simulation using the parameter values of the dark characteristics,which were obtained from the experimental measurements for a simulated BC based on a Ni-incorporated ZNRAs *** Carlo(MC)modeling and simulation were conducted to obtain the values of the β energy deposited in ZNRAs with different nanorod spacings and *** the simulation and optimization of the 3-D ZNRAs and 2-D ZnO bulk structures,the performance of the ^(63)Ni-powered BCs based on both structures was evaluated using a quantitative *** BCs based on the 3-D ZNRAs structure and 2-D ZnO bulk structure achieved a maximum ECE of 10.1%and 4.69%,respectively,which indicates the significant superiority of 3-D nanostructured WBGSs in increasing the ECE of BCs.

目的探讨急性睾丸节段性梗死的超声表现。方法回顾性分析10例临床诊断为睾丸节段性梗死患者的临床与超声影像资料,10例均行常规超声及超声造影检查。结果10例患者年龄为16-52岁,中位年龄为29岁。7例病灶位于左侧,3例位于右侧。灰阶超声上6例呈楔形,3例呈类圆形,1例呈不规则形;6例呈低回声,4例呈不均质中等回声。彩色多普勒图像8例病灶内无血流,2例少许血流;8例病灶周围血流增加。超声造影6例呈楔形,4例呈类圆形;8例病灶无强化,2例少许强化;10例病灶周围环状强化。结论急性睾丸节段性梗死好发于青年,以左侧多见。超声主要表现为睾丸内的楔形或类圆形的低回声或不均质中等回声病灶,大多数病灶内无血供,但周围睾丸实质可出现血流增加和环状强化。

Effect of Quercetin on Atherosclerosis Based on Expressions of ABCA1, LXR-α and PCSK9 in ApoE-/- Mice

Objective:To investigate the effect of quercetin on ATP binding cassette transporter A1(ABCA1),liver X receptor(LXR),and proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9(PCSK9)expressions in apoE-knockout(ApoE-/-)***:The high-fat diet-induced atherosclerosis(AS)in ApoE-/-mice was *** mice were divided into 3 groups using random number table method:model group(n=12),quercetin group(n=12),and atorvastatin group(n=12),with C57BL/6j mice of the same strain and age as the control group(n=12).Quercetin group and atorvastatin group were administrated with quercetin and atorvastatin by oral gavage,with doses of 12.5 and 4 mg/(kg・d),*** in the control and model groups were given an equal volume of distilled water by oral gavage once per day for a total of 12 *** blot and immunohistochemical methods were employed to determine the aortic ABCA1,LXR-a and PCSK9 protein expressi *** zyme linked imm uno sorbent assay method was used to detect the expressi on of serum total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG),high density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipoproteincholesterol(LDL-C),tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a),interleukin-6(IL-6),and IL-10,combined with tissue pathological exami ***:ApoE-/-mice fed with a high-fat diet had no table atherosclerosis lesions,with reduced ABCA1,LXR-a and IL-10 levels(all P<0.01),elevated PCSK9,TNF-a and IL-6 expression,and increased TC and LDL-C con tents(all P<0.01).After querceti n in terventi on,the areas of AS plaques and the expressions of PCSK9,TNF-a and IL-6 were significantly reduced(all P<0.01),while the expressions of ABCA1 and LXR-a were increased significantly(all P<0.01).Conclusion:Quercetin effectively interfered with AS development by regulating the expressions of ABCA1,LXR-a and PCSK9 in ApoE,mice.

A high open-circuit voltage betavoltaic microbattery based on a GaN p-i-n diode is *** the irradiation of a 4×4 mm^(2) planar solid 63Ni source with an activity of 2 mCi,the open−circuit voltage Voc of the fabricated single 2×2 mm^(2) cell reaches as high as 1.62 V,the short−circuit current density jsc is measured to be 16nA/cm^(2).The microbattery has a fill factor of 55%,and the energy conversion efficiency of beta radiation into electricity reaches to 1.13%.The results suggest that GaN is a highly promising potential candidate for long-life betavoltaic microbatteries used as power supplies for microelectromechanical system devices.

Hydrocarbons separation in petrochemical industries is a key,energy-consuming stage in the manufacture of high-quality added-value products—hence the need for more efficient materials and environmentally friendly methodologies to improve this *** this context,we have studied the effect of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)pore functionalization in hexane isomers separation,isolating the robust isoreticular zinc(ll)bipyrazolates Zn(BPZ),showing no pore decoration,Zn(Me_(2)BPZ),the pores of which are decorated with apolar methyl groups,and Zn(BPZ(NH_(2))_(2)),the spacers of which possess polar Lewis-basic functions(H_(2)BPZ=1H,1'H-4,4'-bipyrazole;H_(2)Me_(2)BPZ=3,3'-dimethyl-1H,1'H-4,4'-bipyrazole;H_(2)BPZ(NH_(2))_(2)=3,5-diamino-1H,1'H-4,4'-bipyrazole;DMF=dimethylformamide).After characterizing Zn(BPZ(NH_(2))_(2))as per its crystal structure and thermal behaviour,and all the three MOFs as per their textural properties,we investigated,from the experimental and computational points of view,the impact of the square one-dimensional channels decoration on the separation of the hexane isomers,demonstrating the relevance of pore constrictions in the resolution of the title alkanes mixture.
