A model for the mechanics of woven fabrics is developed in the framework of two-dimensional elastic surface theory. Thickness effects are modeled indirectly in terms of appropriate constitutive equations. The model accounts for the strain of the fabric and additional effects associated with the normal bending, geodesic bending, and twisting of the constituent fibers.

Androgen receptor （AR）-mediated androgen action provides not only a classical pivotal role in male development and functions but also a recently proven role in female reproductive physiology. Splice variants of AR are reported to occur in various androgen-sensitive cancers and now, a recent study by Wang et al. proposed that AR splice variants have an etiological role in polycystic ovary syndrome （PCOS）.

Cancer cells often depend on altered metabolism compared with their normal counterparts.1-4 As observed in 1924 by Otto Warburg, cancer cells show preferential glucose consumption by way of aerobic glycolysis while normal cells generally assume mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation.4 Another metabolic hallmark of carcinogenesis is altered lipid metabolism, whereby cancer cells may adopt enhanced de novo lipid production （lipogenesis）.l-3 Enhanced lipid metabolism is also observed in individuals with metabolic syndromes potentially a consequence of increasing popularity of the Standard American Diet, composed of high levels of saturated fats and carbohydrates.5 A growing body of epidemiological data indicates a positive correlation between the occurrence of metabolic syndromes, such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, type-2 diabetes and associated hyperinsulemia, with the aggressiveness of cancer.6-9 Remarkably, it is estimated that for every 1% reduction in saturated fats, replaced by polyunsaturated, there would be a 2%-3% reduction in cardiovascular disease.10 Thus, it is conceivable that an equally remarkable attenuation in cancer progression might be achieved with such a reduction in lipid accumulation.

In this paper, an approach based on the fast point-in-polygon (PIP) algorithm and trimmed elements is proposed for isogeometric topology optimization (TO) with arbitrary geometric constraints. The isogeometric parameterized level-set-based TO method, which directly uses the non-uniform rational basis splines (NURBS) for both level set function (LSF) parameterization and objective function calculation, provides higher accuracy and efficiency than previous methods. The integration of trimmed elements is completed by the efficient quadrature rule that can design the quadrature points and weights for arbitrary geometric shape. Numerical examples demonstrate the efficiency and flexibility of the method.

Multiphase flows involving liquid droplets in association with gas flow occur in many industrial and sci- entific applications. Recent work has demonstrated the feasibility of using optical techniques based on laser extinction to simultaneously measure vapor concentration and temperature and droplet size and loading. This work introduces the theoretical background for the optimal design of such laser extinction techniques, termed WMLE （wavelength-multiplexed laser extinction）. This paper focuses on the devel- opment of WMLE and presents a systematic methodology to guide the selection of suitable wavelengths and optimize the performance of WMLE for specific applications. WMLE utilizing wavelengths from 0.5 to 10 ixm is illustrated for droplet size and vapor concentration measurements in an example of water spray, and is found to enable unique and sensitive Sauter mean diameter measurement in the range of ~1-15 ~m along with accurate vapor detection. A vapor detection strategy based on differential absorp- tion is developed to extend accurate measurement to a significantly wider range of droplet loading and vapor concentration as compared to strategies based on direct fixed-wavelength absorption. Expected performance of the sensor is modeled for an evaporating spray. This work is expected to lay the ground- work for implementing optical sensors based on WMLE in a variety of research and industrial applications involving multi-phase flows.

Abstract-An analytic method is proposed to compute the price-reserve offer curve at the consumer level in hierarchical direct load *** convexification of the consumer reserve provision is examined,and the analytic expression of the optimal solution within each critical region is ***,based on multi-parametric programming,a combinatorial enumeration method in conjunction with efficient reduction and pruning strategy is proposed to compute the optimal response of consumers in the whole price *** tests along with an application example in the bi-level aggregator pricing problem demonstrate the merit of this method.

The Casimir force,a quantum mechanical effect,has been observed in several microelectromechanical system(MEMS)*** to its extreme sensitivity to the separation of two objects,the Casimir force has been proposed as an excellent avenue for quantum *** application,however,is challenging due to attractive forces leading to stiction and device failure,called Casimir *** this work,we design and simulate a Casimir-driven metrology platform,where a time-delay-based parametric amplification technique is developed to achieve a steady-state and avoid *** apply the design to the detection of weak,low-frequency,gradient magnetic fields similar to those emanating from ionic currents in the heart and *** parameters are selected from recent experimental platforms developed for Casimir metrology and magnetic gradiometry,both on MEMS *** a MEMS offers many advantages to such an application,the detected signal must typically be at the resonant frequency of the device,with diminished sensitivity in the low frequency regime of biomagnetic *** a Casimir-driven parametric amplifier,we report a 10,000-fold improvement in the best-case resolution of MEMS single-point gradiometers,with a maximum sensitivity of 6 Hz/(pT/cm)at 1 *** development of the proposed design has the potential to revolutionize metrology and may specifically enable the unshielded monitoring of biomagnetic fields in ambient conditions.
