Rainfall erosivity and erosivity density through rainfall synthetic series for Sao Paulo State,Brazil:Assessment,regionalization and modeling

Rainfall is the main cause of erosion of Brazilian soils,which makes assessing the rainfall erosivity factor(RE)and the erosivity density(ED)fundamental for soil and water ***,the objectives of this study were:i)to estimate the RE and ED for Sao Paulo State,Brazil,using synthetic series of pluviographic data;ii)to define homogeneous regions regarding rainfall erosivity;and iii)to generate regression models for rainfall erosivity estimates in each of the homogeneous *** series of pluviographic data were initially obtained on a sub-daily scale from the daily rainfall records of 696 rainfall *** RE values were then estimated from the synthetic rainfall data,and ED was calculated from the relationship between erosivity and rainfall *** and annual maps for RE and ED were *** clustering analysis was used to define homogeneous regions in terms of rainfall erosivity,and regionalized regression models for estimating RE were *** results demonstrate high spatial variability of RE in Sao Paulo,where the highest annual values were observed in the coastal *** to March concentrate approximately 60%of the intra-annual *** highest values of annual ED were observed in regions with intense agricultural *** definition of five homogeneous regions concerning the rainfall erosive potential evidenced distinct seasonal patterns of the spatial distribution of ***,the high predictive accuracy of the regionalized models obtained characterizes them as essential tools for reliable estimates of rainfall erosivity,and contribute to better soil conservation planning.

The required treatment and monitoring of contaminants in wastewater reinforces the development of low-cost adsorbents/chemosensors,introducing advantages relative to the detection/removal of toxic metals and ***,it is reported a two-step process of fabrication of fluorescent carbon dots via the hydrothermal treatment of amino acids for the following encapsulation in electrospun *** prominent anionic behavior of electrospun fibers of Eudragit L100 was explored for adsorption of cationic dyes(methylene blue and crystal violet)-with the prevailing electrostatic interaction of parts being favored by the formation of monolayers on the surface of *** the other hand,the controlled release of carbon dots(cDs)from fibers to the reactor can be explored for a second application:the nitrogen ligands from released glycine-based carbon dots can be explored to indicate the presence of metal ions in aqueous *** experiment resulted in a quenching in the fluorescence of the cDs in order of 90%in the emission of particles in the response of the presence of Fe^(3+) ions,characterizing a promising perspective for this experimental system.

Status and prospects for symmetric organic redox flow batteries

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

Gas-phase electrocatalytic conversion of cO_2 to chemicals on sputtered cu and cu–c catalysts electrodes

A novel gas-phase electrocatalytic cell containing a low-temperature proton exchange membrane(PEM)was developed to electrochemically convert cO_2into organic *** different cu-based cathode catalysts(cu and cu–c)were prepared by physical vapor deposition method(sputtering)and subsequently employed for the gas-phase electroreduction of cO_2at different temperatures(70–90°c).The prepared electrodes cu and cu–c were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),X-ray photoemission spectroscopy(XPS)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).As revealed,cu is partially oxidized on the surface of the samples and the cu and cu–c cathodic catalysts were comprised of a porous,continuous,and homogeneous film with nanocrystalline cu with a grain size of 16 and 8 nm,*** influence of the applied current and temperature on the electro-catalytic activity and selectivity of these materials was *** the two investigated electrodes,the pure cu catalyst film showed the highest cO_2specific electrocatalytic reduction rates and higher selectivity to methanol formation compared to the cu–c electrode,which was attributed to the higher particle size of the former and lower cu O/cu *** obtained results show potential interest for the possible use of electrical renewable energy for the transformation of cO_2into valuable products using low metal loading cu based electrodes(0.5 mg cu cm^(-2))prepared by sputtering.

Body temperature,activity patterns and hunting in free-living cheetah:biologging reveals new insights

Fluidized and vibrofluidized shallow beds of fresh leaves

The fluid dynamics behavior of shallow fluidized and vibrofluidized beds operating with fresh leaves was investigated with the aim of exploring drying applications in a modified conveyor belt （McB） system, which may be operated in a fixed- or fluidized-bed mode. Leaves of the specimens Duranta repens, Schinus molle, coleus barbatus, Buxus sempervirens, and Bougainvillea spectabilis were tested with a range of sphericities from 0.063 to 0.213, bulk densities from 0.038 to 0.251 g/cm3, apparent densities from 0.52 to 0.97 g/cm3 and ratios of total surface area to volume from 21 to 224 cm-1. Fluidization characteristic curves were obtained by measuring pressure drops versus air velocity in a rectangular column of 0.20 m - 0.11 m cross section. It was not possible to reach real fluidized regimes with the leaves due to strongly non-homogeneous beds. Nevertheless, the characteristic curves allowed for the identification of a transition regime from fixed- to expa.ded-beds, and parameters such as air velocity and pressure drop obtained from the experimental data at the transition were reproducible for specimens with lower surface area or lower specific gravity （i.e., Duranta repens, Schinus molle, and Bougainvillea spectabilis）. The transition velocity and pressure drop could not be predicted by the literature developed for estimat- ing minimum fluidization conditions. The use of vibration at dimensionless vibration parameters （Γ） of 0.5 and 1.0 helped to reduce channeling and decrease the transition velocities from fixed to expa.ded regimes although it did not affect the pressure drops after the bed expansion. The results suggest that drying fresh leaves using the McB dryer operating in a fluidized mode would not be feasible because none of the materials investigated attained a high-quality fluidization. Operation of the McB dryer may be pos- sible by alternating between the fixed and vibrofluidized modes. For the specimens tested, the drying should be performed in a range

Traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease are three distinct neurological disorders that share common pathophysiological mechanisms involving neuroinflammation. One sequela of neuroinflammation includes the pathologic hyperphosphorylation of tau protein, an endogenous microtubule-associated protein that protects the integrity of neuronal cytoskeletons. Tau hyperphosphorylation results in protein misfolding and subsequent accumulation of tau tangles forming neurotoxic aggregates. These misfolded proteins are characteristic of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease and can lead to downstream neuroinflammatory processes, including assembly and activation of the inflammasome complex. Inflammasomes refer to a family of multimeric protein units that, upon activation, release a cascade of signaling molecules resulting in caspase-induced cell death and inflammation mediated by the release of interleukin-1β cytokine. One specific inflammasome, the NOD-like receptor protein 3, has been proposed to be a key regulator of tau phosphorylation where it has been shown that prolonged NOD-like receptor protein 3 activation acts as a causal factor in pathological tau accumulation and spreading. This review begins by describing the epidemiology and pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease. Next, we highlight neuroinflammation as an overriding theme and discuss the role of the NOD-like receptor protein 3 inflammasome in the formation of tau deposits and how such tauopathic entities spread throughout the brain. We then propose a novel framework linking traumatic brain injury, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and Alzheimer's disease as inflammasomedependent pathologies that exist along a temporal continuum. Finally, we discuss potential therapeutic targets that may intercept this pathway and ultimately minimize long-term neurological decline.

In this study,we implemented the type Ⅱ seesaw mechanism into the framework of the U(l)B-L gauge *** achieve this,we a.ded a scalar triplet,A,to the canonical particle content of the U(l)B-Lgauge *** imposing that the U(l)B-L gauge symmetry be spontaneously broken at TeV scale,we show that the type Ⅱ seesaw mechanism is realized at an intermediate energy scale,more precisely,at approximately 109 *** prevent heavy right-ha.ded neutrinos from disturbing the mechanism,we evoke a Z2 discrete ***,as a result,we have standard neutrinos with mass around eV scale and right-ha.ded neutrinos with mass in TeV scale,with the lightest one fulfilling the condition of dark *** developed all of these in this *** addition,we show that the neutral component of Δ may perform unproblematic non-minimal inflation with loss of unitarity.

NDRank: optimised parallel search for weather analogues

Global meteorology data are now widely used in various areas, but one of its applications, weather analogues, still require exhaustive searches on the whole historical data. We present two optimisations for the state-of-the-art weather analogue search algorithms: a parallelization and a heuristic search. The heuristic search (NDRank) limits of the final number of results and does initial searches on a lower resolution dataset to find candidates that, in the second phase, are locally validated. These optimisations were deployed in the cloud and evaluated with ERA5 data from EcMWF. The proposed parallelization attained speedups close to optimal, and NDRank attains speedups higher than 4. NDRank can be applied to any parallel search, adding similar speedups. A substantial number of executions returned a set of analogues similar to the existing exhaustive search and most of the remaining results presented a numerical value difference lower than 0.1%. The results demonstrate that it is now possible to search for weather analogues in a faster way (even compared with parallel searches) with results with little to no error. Furthermore, NDRank can be applied to existing exhaustive searches, providing faster results with small reduction of the precision of the results.
