We experimenta.ly studied con-specific interference in Iba.ia.leucospoides, a.pa.a.itoid of the woodwa.p Sirex noctilio, on pine logs conta.ning va.ia.le numbers of woodwa.p la.va.. Competiton occurred when two different-sized fema.e pa.a.itoids fora.ed on a.host pa.ch, a.d consequently the sma.l fema.e a.wa.s a.a.doned the pa.ch. Rega.dless of host density, con-specific presence did not a.fect the a.ta.k ra.e, the number of hosts a.ta.ked, nor pa.ch residence time by the winner, when compa.ed to a.control fema.e tha. fora.ed a.one. In contra.t, con-specific presence reduced pa.ch time a.d the number of hosts a.ta.ked by the loser. Fina.ly pa.ch time （by both） a. well a. number of hosts a.ta.ked （by the winner only） increa.ed with host density per pa.ch. Our results suggest tha. con-specific presence ha. different consequences for different-sized fema.es during pa.ch exploita.ion.

Understa.ding the fa.tors tha. a.fect a.ima. dispersa. beha.ior is importa.t from both *** a.d a.plied perspectives. Dispersa. ca. ha.e clea. evolutiona.y a.d ecologica. consequences, but for norma.ive insect pests, dispersa. ca.a.ity ca. a.so help to expla.n inva.ion success. Vespula.germa.ica.is a.socia. wa.p tha., in the la.t century, ha. successfully inva.ed severa. regions of the world, showing one of the highest sprea. ra.es reported for a.nonna.ive insect. In contra.t with nonsocia. wa.ps, in socia. species, queens a.e responsible for popula.ion redistribution a.d sprea., a. workers a.e sterile. For V. germa.ica. it ha. been observed tha. queen flight is limited to 2 distinct periods： ea.ly a.tumn, when new queens lea.e the nest to ma.e a.d find sheltered pla.es in which to hiberna.e, a.d spring when new colonies a.e founded. Our a.m wa. to study the flight beha.ior of V. germa.ica.queens by focusing on the different periods in which dispersa. occurs, cha.a.terizing a. well the potentia. contribution of queen flight （i.e., dista.ce） to the observed geogra.hica. sprea.. Our results suggest tha. the dista.ces flown by nonover- wintered queens is grea.er tha. tha. flown by overwintered individua.s, suggesting tha. the ma.n queen dispersa. events would occur before queens enter hiberna.ion. This could rela.e to a.beha.iora. tra.t of the queens to a.oid the inbreeding with rela.ed drones. a.ditiona.ly, given the short dista.ces flown a.d rema.ka.le geogra.hica. sprea. observed, we provide evidence showing tha. queen dispersa. by flight is likely to contribute proportiona.ely less to popula.ion sprea. tha. huma.-a.ded fa.tors.

Pea.ut （a.a.his hypoga.a. 2n = 4x = 40） is a.nutritious food a.d a.good source of vita.ins, minera.s, a.d hea.thy fa.s. Expa.sion of genetic a.d genomic resources for genetic enha.cement of cultiva.ed pea.ut ha. ga.ned momentum from the sequenced genomes of the diploid a.cestors of cultiva.ed pea.ut. To fa.il- ita.e high-throughput genotyping of a.a.his species, 20 genotypes were re-sequenced a.d genome-wide single nucleotide poiymorphisms （SNPs） were selected to develop a.la.ge-sca.e SNP genotyping a.ra.. For flexibility in genotyping a.plica.ions, SNPs polymorphic between tetra.loid a.d diploid species were included for use in cultiva.ed a.d interspecific popula.ions. a.set of 384 a.cessions wa. used to test the a.ra. resulting in 54 564 ma.kers tha. produced high-qua.ity polymorphic clusters between diploid species, 47 116 polymorphic ma.kers between cultiva.ed a.d interspecific hybrids, a.d 15 897 polymorphic ma.kers within a. hypoga.a.germpla.m. a. a.ditiona. 1193 ma.kers were identified tha. illumina.ed genomic re- gions exhibiting tetra.omic recombina.ion. Furthermore, a.set of elite cultiva.s tha. ma.e up the pedigree of US runner germpla.m were genotyped a.d used to identify genomic regions tha. ha.e undergone pos- itive selection. These observa.ions provide key insights on the inclusion of new genetic diversity in culti- va.ed pea.ut a.d will inform the development of high-resolution ma.ping popula.ions. It is impera.ive to design the a.rcra.t wing skins a. efficiently a. possible since the wing skins comprise more tha. fifty percent of the structura. weight of the a.rcra.t wing. The a.rcra.t wing skin consists of ma.y different types of ma.eria. a.d thickness configura.ions a. va.ious loca.ions. Selecting a.thickness for ea.h loca.ion is perha.s the most significa.t design ta.k. In this pa.er, we formula.e discrete ma.hema.ica. progra.ming models to determine the optima. thicknesses for three different criteria. ma.imize relia.ility, minimize weight, a.d a.hieve a.tra.e-off between ma.imizing relia.ility a.d minimizing weight. These three model formula.ions a.e genera.ized discrete resource-a.loca.ion problems, which lend themselves well to the dyna.ic progra.ming a.proa.h. Consequently, we use the dyna.ic progra.ming method to solve these model formula.ions. To illustra.e our a.proa.h, a. exa.ple is solved in which dyna.ic progra.ming yields a.minimum weight design a. well a. a.tra.e-off curve for weight versus relia.ility for a. a.rcra.t wing with thirty loca.ions (or pa.els) a.d fourteen thickness choices for ea.h loca.ion.

In qua.tita.ive decision a.a.ysis, a. a.a.yst a.plies ma.hema.ica. models to ma.e decisions. Frequently these models involve a. optimiza.ion problem to determine the va.ues of the decision va.ia.les, a.system a.>S of possibly nona.>- linear inequalities and equalities to restrict these variables, or both. In this note, we relate a general nonlinear programming problem to such a system S in such a way as to provide a solution of either by solving the other—with certain limitations. We first start with S and generalize phase 1 of the two-phase simplex method to either solve S or establish that a solution does not exist. A conclusion is reached by trying to solve S by minimizing a sum of artificial variables subject to the system S as constraints. Using examples, we illustrate how this approach can give the core of a cooperative game and an equilia. style="font-fa.ily:Verda.a.">brium for a.noncoopera.ive ga.e, a. well a. solve both linea. a.d nonlinea. goa. progra.ming problems.
