This article explores some ways that corpus stylistics can be valuable to literary studies. Corpus study is full of surprises and the examples of serendipitous insights presented here suggest that corpus stylistics can be valuable as a discovery technique a way to uncover unexpected questions and insights. By providing access to evidence that has never been available before it can also strengthen and deepen traditional literary and stylistic analysis. Specially created literary corpora facilitate the investigation of style variation within a single text or a group of related texts. Creating a corpus of epistolary novels makes it possible to compare how well different authors succeed in creating different voices for their letter-writers. Treating a single epistolary novel or a novel with multiple narrators as a corpus makes it is possible to explore the degree to which an author has succeed in creating distinct individual voices within a novel. Huge natural language corpora and web searches can be used in a very different kind of corpus stylistics providing access to novel kinds of tangible and persuasive evidence that can supplement or correct literary intuition.

MicroRNA-let-7a promotes E2F-mediated cell proliferation and NFKB activation in vitro

Epigenetic factors, including altered microRNA （miRNA） expression, may contribute to aberrant immune cell function in systemic lupus erythematosus （SlE）. MiRNA-let-7a （let-7a） has been shown to directly alter cell cycle progression and proinflammatory cytokine production. Due to the crucial role of let-7a in cell division and inflammation, we investigated let-7a-mediated proliferation and NFKB translocation in J774A. 1 macrophages and MES 13 mesangial cells in vitro. In immune-stimulated cells transfected with let-7a, cell proliferation was significantly increased over time. There was a significant increase in the number of immune-stimulated cells in S and G2 phases. Immune-stimulated cells overexpressing let-7a had increased nuclear translocation of NFKB. Bioinformatical analysis revealed that the E2F family, critical regulators of the G1-S transition, has potential binding sites for let-7a in their mRNA transcripts. let-7a overexpression significantly increased the expression of the cell cycle activator E2F2 and increased retinoblastoma protein （Rb） phosphorylation in immune-stimulated cells. The cell cycle inhibitor E2F5 was significantly decreased in let-7a-transfected cells that were immune-stimulated. Bioinformatical analysis revealed E2F2 and NFKB are transcription factors predicted to regulate the let-7a promoter. We analyzed transcriptional regulation of let-7a by real-time RT-PCR using chromatin immunoprecipitation with E2F2 and NFKB antibodies. There was an increase in E2F2 and NFKB binding in DNA enriched for the let-7a promoter in immune-stimulated cells. Silencing E2F2 or NFKB significantly decreased let-7a expression and Il-6 production in immune-stimulated cells. Taken together, our results suggest that overexpression of let-7a may contribute to hyperplasia and the proinflammatory response in SlE.

The present study focuses on the formulation of new composite consisting of plaster and raffia vinifera particle (RVP) with the purpose to reducing energy consumption. The aim of this study is to test this new compound as an insulating eco-material in building in a tropical climate. The composites samples were developed by mixing plaster with raffia vinifera particles (RVP) using three different sizes (1.6 mm, 2.5 mm and 4 mm). The effects of four different RVP incorporations rates (i.e., 0wt%, 5wt%;10wt%;15wt%) on physical, thermal, mechanicals properties of the composites were investigated. In addition, the use of the raffia vinifera particles and plaster based composite material as building envelopes thermal insulation material is studied by the habitable cell thermal behavior instrumentation. The results indicate that the incorporation of raffia vinifera particle leads to improve the new composite physical, mechanical and thermal properties. And the parametric analysis reveals that the sampling rate and the size of raffia vinifera particles are the most decisive factor to impact these properties, and to decreases in the thermal conductivity which leads to an improvement to the thermal resistance and energy savings. The best improvement of plaster composite was obtained at the raffia vinifera particles size between 2.5 and 4.0 mm loading of 5wt% (C95P5R) with a good ratio of thermo-physical-mechanical properties. Additionally, the habitable cell experimental thermal behavior, with the new raffia vinifera particles and plaster-based composite as thermal insulating material for building walls, gives an average damping of 4°C and 5.8°C in the insulated house interior environment respectively for cold and hot cases compared to the outside environment and the uninsulated house interior environment. The current study highlights that this mixture gives the new composite thermal insulation properties applicable in the eco-construction of habitats in tropical environments

Fossil fuels cover around 80% of global energy consumption. However, the problems linked to their use justify the choice of using biofuel. In order to reduce as much as possible, diesel rate, an increase in the number of additives may be considered. Thus, in this work, the study of the used frying oil (UFO), bioethanol and diesel ternary system was undertaken. It emerges from this study that the addition of bioethanol reduces the viscosity and the density of the ternary system and permits a 90% substitution rate for diesel between the UFO and bioethanol. Finally, the percentage of oil becomes 40% after adding alcohol compared to the binary diesel crude vegetable oil mixture where this rate is 30%.

The accuracy of topographic correction of landsat data based on a Digital Surface Model(DSM)depends on the quality,scale and spatial resolution of the DSM data used and the co-registration between the DSM and the satellite image.A physics-based bidirectional reflectance distribution function(BRDF)and atmospheric correction model in conjunction with a 1-second DSM was used to conduct the analysis in this *** results show that for the examples used from Australia,the 1-second DSM,can provide an effective product for this ***,it was found that some remaining artefacts in the DSM data,originally due to radar shadow,can still cause significant local errors in the *** they occur,false shadows and over-corrected surface reflectance factors can be *** generally,accurate co-registration between satellite images and DSM data was found to be critical for effective ***-registration by one or two pixels could lead to large errors of retrieved surface reflectance factors in gully and ridge *** low-resolution DSM data in conjunction with high-resolution satellite images will also fail to correct significant terrain components where they occur at the finer scales of the satellite *** resolution appropriate to the resolution of satellite image and the roughness of the terrain is needed for effective results,and the rougher the terrain,the more critical will be the accurate registration.

Rice is one of the most widely cultivated cereals in the world, and its aroma is increasingly in demand. With the advancement of research, a major rice flavor gene has been identified on rice chromosome 8. It encodes non-functional betaine aldehyde dehydrogenase leading to the accumulation of 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline which is the major olfactory compound that confers the fragrant character to rice. The aroma of rice is considered a special trait of enormous economic importance that determines the prime price in world trade. To satisfy the needs of the population and reduce rice imports into Benin, we conducted this study to identify aromatic rice accessions grown in Benin. Seventy-two rice accessions collected across Benin were PCR amplified with three SSR markers RM 7049, Aro 7, and RM 223, linked to the fgr (fragrance of rice) aroma gene. Molecular analysis revealed that 12 of the 72 accessions, namely Bagou 19, Bagou 22, Tchaka 34, Foun 15, Tchaka 41, Nana 32, Kan 61, Kung 69, Kung 67, Bagou 20, Agbab 101 and Koum 55 possess the fgr gene and can be considered as aromatic rice accessions. A sensory phenotypic test using KOH was carried out on rice accessions carrying fgr gene. Of the twelve positives, only one had the smell of aromatic rice, like the Azucena control. These results show that Benin also has aromatic rice varieties that can be sold on national and international markets.

Optimization of Adaptive Transit Signal Priority Using Parallel Genetic Algorithm

Optimization of adaptive traffic signal timing is one of the most complex problems in traffic control systems. This paper presents an adaptive transit signal priority （TSP） strategy that applies the parallel genetic algorithm （PGA） to optimize adaptive traffic signal control in the presence of TSP. The method can optimize the phase plan, cycle length, and green splits at isolated intersections with consideration for the performance of both the transit and the general vehicles. A VISSIM （VISual SIMulation） simulation testbed was developed to evaluate the performance of the proposed PGA-based adaptive traffic signal control with TSP. The simulation results show that the PGA-based optimizer for adaptive TSP outperformed the fully actuated NEMA control in all test cases. The results also show that the PGA-based optimizer can produce TSP timing plans that benefit the transit vehicles while minimizing the impact of TSP on the general vehicles.
