Adjusting Second Moment Bias in Eigenspace Using Bayesian Empirical Estimators, dirichlet Tessellations and Worldview I data for Predicting Culex Quinquefasciatus Habitats in Trinidad

Temporally weighted regression models with a spatial autoregressive component may estimate nonlinearities in spatiotemporal-sampled data of Culex quinquefasciatus, a major vector of West Nile Virus (WNV) which can help implement control strategies by determining optimal predictors associated to prolific habitats. The design of this kind of mixed model can specifically incorporate spatial autocorrelation whilst including the influence of other aspatial predictor variables. Currently, the lack of an estimation theory that allows for het- eroscedasticity and corresponding joint hypothesis testing in the presence of spatial dependence in georefer- enced Cx. quinquefasciatus habitat data is a serious shortcoming in WNV research. In this paper we used spatially lagged and simultaneous autoregressive models based on multiple predictor variables of immature Cx. quinquefasciatus and Worldview 1 (WV-1) data to help implant a remote habitat-based surveillance sys- tem in Trinidad. Initially, we used Geomatica Ortho Engine? v. 10.2 for extracting a digital Elevation Model (dEM) from the WV-1 raw imagery. Results of the dEM analyses indicated a statistically significant inverse linear relationship between total sampled Cx. quinquefasciatus data and elevation (m) (R2 = -0.439;p dard deviation of 10.41. Additional field-sampled information was derived using data from an or-thogonal grid-matrix constructed in an ArcInfo 9.3? and overlaid onto the WV-1 data. A unique identifier was placed in the centroid of each grid cell. Univariate statistics and Poisson regression models were then generated using the georeferenced covariates in SAS/GIS?. Coefficient estimates were also used to define expectations for prior distributions in a Bayesian estimation matrix using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) specifications. Red Light Running (RLR) has been associated with road traffic collisions in many jurisdictions across the world. The study aimed at evaluating the factors related to red light running (RLR) in Trinidad and Tobago that could be incorporated into policies that would aim to reduce this tendency and its related costs. Using data collected from the Traffic Unit of Trinidad and Tobago and three major intersections in the country, analysis was done on the impact of time of the day, age of the driver, ethnicity, gender, type of the vehicle, location and day of the week which are related to RLR. The results showed that the highest number of RLR occurs during rush hours in the morning and also in the evenings. Also, Indo-Trinidadian and male drivers display a higher tendency towards RLR. It was also established that some junctions have higher RLR rates than others and that Fridays have more RLR cases than all the other days of the week. These findings are very similar to those made in other countries such as the USA. The study has resulted in specific findings that can be used to improve traffic safety policies in the country.

Knowledge, Attitude and Practice among drivers in Trinidad, West Indies

Few studies have been conducted on the incidence and factors which contribute to road traffic collisions in Trinidad. In order to fill this gap in knowledge, we conducted knowledge, attitudes and practice (KAP) study among drivers to determine which factors contributed to these accidents. A questionnaire was developed and administered using a cross-sectional approach among 3000 persons living in 5 different areas of Trinidad. The collected data were analysed using SPSS version 22, t-test and multivariate analysis. Of the 2998 respondents, at least 572 (19.1%) had been involved in one or more road collisions. While only 46.7% of respondents always wore seat belts, approximately 93% believed strongly that their use was essential for safety—a 3-fold increase in that found in a previous study. The multiple regression analysis indicated that attitude and age were significantly associated with accidents and increased risk for accidents. The results showed that alcohol consumption, use of mobile phones while driving, speed, and age were significantly (p > 0.001) associated with accidents. In conclusion, most respondents were aware of traffic laws and regulations, but their knowledge and practice often diverged. However the improvement in attitude to seat-belt wearing suggests that a holistic driver education program may improve driver practice and adherence to the road traffic regulations in Trinidad.

Most existing models for predicting bubble size and bubble frequency have been developed for freely bubbling fluidized *** prediction of bubbling behavior in deep fluidized beds,however,has been a challenge due to the higher degree of bubble coalescence and break up,high probability of the slugging regime,partial fluidization,and chaotic behavior in the bubbling *** this work,the bubbling and fluidization behavior of potash particles was investigated in a deep fluidized bed employing a twin-plane electrical capacitance tomography(ECT)*** volume fraction,average bubble velocity,average bubble diameter,and bubble frequency in both bubbling and slugging regimes were measured at two different bed height ratios(H/d=3.5 and H/d=3.78).This work is the first to illustrate a sequential view of bubbles at different superficial gas velocities in a fluidized *** results show that both the bubble diameter and rising velocity increased with increasing the superficial gas velocity for the two bed heights,with larger values observed in the deeper bed compared to the shallower *** values for bubble diameter,bubble rise velocity and bubble frequency from different models are compared with the experimental data obtained from the ECT system in this *** agreement has been achieved between the values predicted by the previous models and the experimental data for the bubble diameter and bubble rise velocity with an average absolute deviation of 16%and 15%for the bed height of 49 cm and 13%and 8%for the bed height of 53 cm,respectively.

Constitutive model for monotonic and cyclic responses of loosely cemented sand formations

This paper presents a model to simulate the monotonic and cyclic behaviours of weakly cemented *** elastoplastic constitutive model within the framework of bounding surface plasticity theory is adopted to predict the mechanical behaviour of soft sandstone under monotonic and cyclic loadings. In this model, the loading surface always passes through the current stress state regardless of the type of loading. destruction of the cementation bonds by plastic deformation in the model is considered as the primary mechanism responsible for the mechanical degradation of loosely cemented sands/weak *** model cyclic response, the unloading plastic and elastic moduli are formulated based on the loading/reloading plastic and elastic moduli. The proposed model was implemented in FLAC2d and evaluated against laboratory triaxial tests under monotonic and cyclic loadings, and the model results agreed well with the experimental observations. For cyclic tests, hysteresis loops are captured with reasonable accuracy.

Flexural strength of fused filament fabricated (FFF) PLA parts on an open-source 3d printer

Fused filament fabrication (FFF) has been widely used to develop prototypes as well as functional parts owing to its capability for creating parts with complex geometries in a short time without the specific requirement of tooling. The mechanical properties of parts produced by FFF exhibit 70%-80% of the mechanical properties of parts produced by injection molding. The mechanical properties of FFF-produced parts are primarily dependent on the selection of various process variables. The mechanical properties of the part can be enhanced through the proper selection of process variables. In the present experimental investigation, the effects of the process variables, viz. raster angle, layer height, and raster width on the flexural properties of FFF-printed polylactic acid (PLA) is studied. The result shows that flexural strength is primarily influenced by layer height followed by raster angle. The sample printed with 100-μm layer height and 0° raster angle exhibits a higher tensile strength. Further, the microscopic examination of the deformed specimen is performed to understand the mode of failure. Specimens printed at different raster angles show different modes of failure.

Changes in pneumatization of the maxillary air sinuses in Korean adults following biomimetic oral appliance therapy

Valorisation of fruit waste for enhanced exopolysaccharide production by Xanthomonas campestries using statistical optimisation of medium and process

The aim of this research work was to enhance the fermentative production of exopolysaccharide(EPS)with mixed fruit waste as a key *** campestries was isolated from spoiled orange and its EPS production efficiency was determined using EPS *** to optimisation,the production was 3.4 g/L,upon optimizing the medium the production improved to 9.2 g/*** medium formulation was studied by sequential addition of medium components and replacement of sugar with mixed fruit *** formulated medium,the production enhanced to 11.1 g/*** further optimisation,the response surface methodology was used,which resulted in the enhancement of production to 14.5 g/*** scale-up study was undertaken in a 10 L shake flask and *** 10 L flask EPS,production was 14.45 g/L in 100 h,whereas in 10 L fermenter it was 21.10 g/L in 60h *** optimisation studies gave nearly 500%(6.2fold)enhanced EPS production and dwindle in fermentation *** of sucrose with fruit waste extract made the process environment-friendly;omission of L-cystine and use of 50%reduced amount of sodium acetate in the medium lowered the production cost of *** developed process resulted in the utilization of fruit waste and was also useful in solving the fruit waste disposal problem.
