Background:Gossypium herbaceum(***),a plant commonly found in the wild in Nigeria,is said to possess some therapeutic ***,there is a dearth of information on its chemical ***,there is a need to investigate its therapeutic ***:To investigate the qualitative and quantitative phytochemical components of the leaf extracts of ***,as well as its antioxidant,antimalarial and cytotoxic ***:Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)analysis was used to determine the components of ethanol and hexane extracts of *** leaf while 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and nitric oxide assays were used to determine the antioxidant *** parasites viability was examined using parasite lactate dehydrogenase(pLDH)technique and HeLa cell was used for the cytotoxicity ***:Bioactive compounds identified in ethanol and hexane extracts of *** were 37 and 30 kinds,respectively,with major components as linoleic acid(36.10%and 33.82%),vitamin E(7.15%and 5.98%)and caryophyllene(4.21%and 5.08%).It also has tannins,saponins,alkaloids,flavonoids steroids,phenols and *** antibacterial test,significant inhibitory potentials against multidrug-resistant bacteria strains were *** vitro antioxidant potentials(IC 50)of ethanol and hexane extracts were 3.33 and 4.12μg/mL for DPPH assays,and 3.87 and 5.00μg/mL for nitric oxide assays,*** activities(IC 50)were 9.99 and 9.76μg/mL for ethanol and hexane extracts,***:*** leaf may provide novel plant-derived therapeutic agents,effective in treating infectious diseases arising from multiple drug-resistant bacteria and a target in the management of oxidative stress.

Objective:To identify the role of protein kinase in male reproduction in animal models and human spermatogenic ***:This study assessed the protein kinase of male reproduction in animal models and human using different reviewed paper indexed in PubMed,Science Direct,EBSCO,Scopus,Cochrane Library,Sage Journals,and Google *** were charted based on author,year of publication published between 1893 and 2023,country,purpose,data collection,key findings,and research focus/***:The MAPK pathway contributed to the growth,maturation,and functionality of male germ *** also found out that certain influencing factors categorized into hormonal/non hormonal factors and chemotoxicant,as well as heat stress expressed an inhibitory mechanism on protein kinase,thus affecting spermatogenic functions and maintenance/remodeling of the blood testis barrier,as well as the physiology of the Sertoli cells necessary for nutritional support of ***,activating protein kinases pathway like the mTOR pathway as well as increased expression of peroxiredoxin-4 and L-carnitine mediated protein kinases may be useful for treating or managing male reproductive ***:Protein kinase plays an important role in spermatogenic functions and blood testis remodeling in animal and *** assessment provides essential information that can guide treatment strategies aimed at improving male reproductive *** together,these recent advances highlight a future therapeutic intervention in assessing male reproductive *** might also be possible to look at potential targets for male contraceptives in the MAPK pathway.

In this study we investigate the HIV/AIDS epidemic in a population which experiences a significant flow of immigrants. We derive and analyze a mathematical model that describes the dynamics of HIV infection among the immigrant youths and how parental care can minimize or prevent the spread of the disease in the population. We analyze the model with both screening control and parental care, then investigate its stability and sensitivity behavior. We also conduct both qualitative and quantitative analyses. It is observed that in the absence of infected youths, disease-free equilibrium is achievable and is globally asymptotically stable. We establish optimal strategies for the control of the disease with screening and parental care, and provide numerical simulations to illustrate the analytic results.

Molecular Evaluation of <i>Garcinia kola</i>Heckel Accessions Using RAPD Markers

The genetic relationships among twenty-five accessions of Garcinia kola using six Random Amplified Polymorphic (RAPD) primers were evaluated in this study. The highest volume of total genomic DNA (2218/μl) was recorded in ON4 from Ikare, while the highest DNA concentration of 1.93 gl was found in OS3 from Ilesa. The highest Polymorphic Information Content (PIC) and gene diversity of 93.77% and 0.94 respectively were revealed by primer OPO2 compared to other primers. The dendogram generated from Unweighted Pair Group with Mean Average (UPGMA) clustering delineated two groups, A and B, consisting of 21 and 4 accessions respectively. This study clearly showed the level of molecular diversity in the accessions and the information provided could be utilized for genetic improvement and conservation of Garcinia kola.

Introduction: Africa was noted as a challenging place for allied health care professions including occupational therapy. Those challenges include promotion of occupational therapy and educational program. The University of Rwanda started the occupational therapy training program in 2014 with support of different stakeholders such as Humanity & Inclusion (HI), Rwanda. Aim: This study aimed to explore the contribution of different stakeholders in the development of occupational therapy programs and impact on the profession in Rwanda. Methods: A survey and mixed method of qualitative and quantitative approach was used. Client satisfaction questionnaire, semi-structured self-generated questionnaire were administered to the participants. Results: The majority of occupational therapists were between 20 and 30 years old and only half of the entire population were employed. Majority of the involved Universities excellently achieved their responsibilities. However, few of them reported to have achieved only 50% of their responsibilities. Other contributors like lecturers reported to have excellently achieved their duties while others reported to have achieved only 50%. Non-Governmental Organizations reported to contribute to enough level however there were some organizations contributed to the lowest level below 50%. The client receiving the Occupational Therapy services showed that they are very satisfied at the level of 73.5%, satisfied at 59% and not all satisfied at 20%. Conclusion: This study concluded that there is need for various stakeholders’ contributions, and a need for further study to explore the impact of occupational therapy profession in rehabilitation healthcare system of Rwanda.

The Study of the Antimicrobial Properties of Selected Engineering Materials’ Surfaces

This paper studies the antimicrobial activity of selected engineering materials surfaces at room and chill temperatures. The antimicrobial effects of selected materials surfaces were evaluated by dropping the test pieces into prepared cultures of Bacillus spp, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aereus isolated from fruits, animal feaces and natural environment respectively. Bacteria count obtained after 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240 and 300 minutes at room temperature and chill condition was taken and compared with their initial count. The amount of live bacteria drops by several orders of magnitude, to zero, on metallic copper and brass within 30 to 300 minutes in both room and chill conditions. In contrast, no reduction is seen in the number of colonies of live bacteria on plastics, ceramic and stainless steel in both room and chill conditions. These results suggest that the selection of metallic copper and brass for touch surfaces in hospitals, surfaces exposed to fruit processing and household utensils can materially assist in reducing bacterial contamination, which should lead to a reduction in the transmission of infectious organisms.

Assessment of Contributions of Community Tuberculosis Intervention to Tuberculosis Case Detection and Treatment Outcome in Two States in Nigeria

Background: Nigeria, one of the high burden Tuberculosis countries, has developed various intervention strategies to ensuring universal access to quality-assured tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment. However, low case detection and unsuccessful treatment outcome still remains a serious challenge in most states. Community Tuberculosis care was born against this background in 2010 as a complementing front to combat the challenges, bringing directly observed treatment short-course strategy beyond the clinic settings to the door steps of patients. This study evaluates the contributions of the intervention to Tuberculosis case detection and treatment outcomes in two states in Nigeria. Materials and Method: A retrospective study with multistage sampling technique was employed to review 23,241 presumptive Tuberculosis cases enrolled for management between 2014-2017. Chi-square (χ2) test was used for test of association between the independent variables and the main outcomes of the study, with statistical significance set at p-value of 5%. Results: The annual percentage increase for both states was 24.7%, 189.8% and 114.5% in the study group as against 5.2%, 44.6% and 65.6% in control group. Overall, 23.8% were bacteriologically positive (either AFB or Gene-Xpert MTB/Rif) and 1.4% were clinically evaluated to be positive, while 74.8% were bacteriologically negative. Of the total 5861 cases treated, successful treatment rate of the patients in the study group was 88.6% as compared to 76.1% in the control group. The relationship between the referral system from communities where the intervention program was implemented and the case detection/treatment outcome was statistically significant (OR 95% CI = 3.15, 2.95 - 3.35). Obtaining rapid access in emergency situations for infusion of IV fluids, blood and blood products or medications is vital in using various methods. These include venopuncture, intraosseous infusion, percutanous central venous access and peripheral venous cut-down. We report a case of a 30-year-old woman who developed severe obstetric hemorrhage and had peripheral venous cut-down that was complicated by bilateral femoral osteomyelitis. This is a rare occurrence and this case report shows the need for strict adherence to safety precautions to prevent complications such as that from the procedure.

Implementation of the Active TB Case Finding in Nigeria;Processes, Lessons Learnt and Recommendations

Introduction: Tuberculosis remains a major public health issue in Nigeria with the country ranking seventh among the 30 high TB burden countries. Nigeria is among the three countries that account for half of the 4.3 million “missing” TB cases globally. One untreated TB case is able to infect about 10 - 20 people annually. Hence, it is pertinent that TB is controlled effectively through the use of active case finding strategies to find the missing TB cases. Objective: This article highlights the best practices and key lessons learnt during the implementation of the active house to house TB case finding strategy in Nigeria. Lessons Learnt and Recommendations: Strategic community engagement, massive awareness creation using mass media and local means of communication, mapping of locations where registered TB cases live, to inform home visits for contact tracing and strengthening of laboratory systems, are viable mechanisms to improve TB case finding. Conclusion: Active TB case finding interventions should be implemented in the context of a strengthened diagnostics system, strategic community engagement and media involvement.

Evaluation of New Insecticide （Proteus 170O - TEQ） for the Control of the Brown Cocoa Mirid （Sahlbergella Singularis） in Nigeria

Proteus 170 O - TEQ insecticide was subjected through rigorous testing over years (2005 to 2008) at four concentrations 0.15% (9 mls/10L. H2O), 0.31% (18 mls/10L. H2O), 0.46% (27 mls/10L. H2O) and 0.61% (36 mls/10L. H2O). Each concentration was replicated three times in the field. The mortality rates of mirids on exposure to the various concentrations of Proteus and Standard miricide in the laboratory were similar at 0.46% concentration as both gave a 100% kill of mirids at the 40th minute. The first year field mortalities of mirids recorded 24 hours after the initial and residual applications at the Ibadan, Owena and Ikom at 0.46% active ingredient concentration gave 100% kill of mirids. The mortalities of mirids recorded 24 hours after the second year field initial and residual treatments at the lowest concentration of 0.15% active ingredient ranged between 70.2% and 100%. In the third year, the insecticide at 0.31% concentration compared favourably with the Standard. The residues of thiacloprid in the analyzed cocoa bean samples were below the Limit of Quantitation (LOQ) of 0.01 mg/kg. Spraying of mature and fruiting cocoa farms at application rate of 0.46% was found adequate and recommended.
