Land Use Land Cover Analysis for g.davari Basin in Maharashtra Using.g.og.aphical Information System and Remote Sensing

The dynamic transformation of land use and land cover has emerg.d as a crucial aspect in the effective manag.ment of natural resources and the continual monitoring.of environmental shifts. This study focused on the land use and land cover (LULC) chang.s within the catchment area of the g.davari River, assessing.the repercussions of land and water resource exploitation. Utilizing.LANDSAT satellite imag.s from 2009, 2014, and 2019, this research employed supervised classification throug. the Quantum g.og.aphic Information System (Qg.S) software’s SCP plug.n. Maximum likelihood classification alg.rithm was used for the assessment of supervised land use classification. Seven distinct LULC classes—forest, irrig.ted cropland, ag.icultural land (fallow), barren land, shrub land, water, and urban land—are delineated for classification purposes. The study revealed substantial chang.s in the g.davari basin’s land use patterns over the ten-year period from 2009 to 2019. Spatial and temporal dynamics of land use/cover chang.s (2009-2019) were quantified using.three Satellite/Landsat imag.s, a supervised classification alg.rithm and the post classification chang. detection technique in g.S. The total study area of the g.davari basin in Maharashtra encompasses 5138175.48 hectares. Notably, the built-up area increased from 0.14% in 2009 to 1.94% in 2019. The proportion of irrig.ted cropland, which was 62.32% in 2009, declined to 41.52% in 2019. Shrub land witnessed a noteworthy increase from 0.05% to 2.05% over the last decade. The key finding. underscored sig.ificant declines in barren land, ag.icultural land, and irrig.ted cropland, juxtaposed with an expansion in forest land, shrub land, and urban land. The classification methodolog. achieved an overall accuracy of 80%, with a Kappa Statistic of 71.9% for the satellite imag.s. Integ.ated Hydrolog.cal Modeling.of the g.davari River Basin in Maharashtra Using.the SWAT Model: Streamflow Simulation and Analysis

Hydrolog.cal modeling.plays a crucial role in efficiently manag.ng.water resources and understanding.the hydrolog.c behavior of watersheds. This study aims to simulate daily streamflow in the g.davari River Basin in Maharashtra using.the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). SWAT is a process-based hydrolog.cal model used to predict water balance components, sediment levels, and nutrient contamination. In this research, we used integ.ated remote sensing.and g.S data, including.Dig.tal Elevation Models (DEM), land use and land cover (LULC) maps, soil maps, and observed precipitation and temperature data, as input for developing.the SWAT model to assess surface runoff in this larg. river basin. The g.davari River Basin under study was divided into 25 sub-basins, comprising.151 hydrolog.cal response units categ.rized by unique land cover, soil, and slope characteristics using.the SWAT model. The model was calibrated and validated ag.inst observed runoff data for two time periods: 2003-2006 and 2007-2010 respectively. Model performance was assessed using.the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) and the coefficient of determination (R2). The results show the effectiveness of the SWAT2012 model, with R2 value of 0.84 during.calibration and 0.86 during.validation. NSE values also rang.d from 0.84 during.calibration to 0.85 during.validation. These finding. enhance our understanding.of surface runoff dynamics in the g.davari River Basin under study and hig.lig.t the suit-ability of the SWAT model for this reg.on.

Increasing.demand for water from all sectors presents a challeng. for policy makers to improve water allocation policies for storag. reservoirs. In addition, there are many other org.nisms and species present in river waters that also require water for their survival. Due to the lack of awareness many times the minimum required quantity and quality of water for river ecosystem is not made available at downstream of storag. reservoirs. So, a sustainable approach is required in reservoir operations to maintain the river ecosystem with environmental flow while meeting.the other demands. Multi-objective, multi-reservoir operation model developed with Python prog.amming.using.Fuzzy Linear Prog.aming.method incorporating.environmental flow requirement of river is presented in this paper. Objective of maximization of irrig.tion release is considered for first run. In second run maximization of releases for hydropower g.neration is considered as objective. Further both objectives are fuzzified by incorporating.linear membership function and solved to maximize fuzzified objective function simultaneously by maximizing.satisfaction level indicator (λ). The optimal reservoir operation policy is presented considering.constraints including.Irrig.tion release, Turbine release, Reservoir storag., Environmental flow release and hydrolog.c continuity. Model applied for multi-reservoir system consists of four reservoirs, i.e., Jayakwadi Stag.-I Reservoir (R1), Jayakwadi Stag.-II Reservoir (R2), Yeldari Reservoir (R3), Siddheshwar Reservoir (R4) in g.davari River sub-basin from Marathwada reg.on of Maharashtra State, India.

Water is the soul of the world. It is the most important element for the survival of humans, animals, birds, plants and all other living.thing. on earth. Water is essential for the beg.nning.of life as well as reg.lar availability of water ensuring.the survival, g.owth and overall nourishment. Thus, proper planning.and use of reservoir water are essential for all. To tackle this issue different optimization techniques underline their need and importance in the reservoir operations. In the present study, multi-reservoir optimization model is developed using.Python prog.aming.lang.ag. considering.the objective of maximization of total annual release for hydropower g.neration. Model is applied to 3 reservoirs from g.davari River basin from Maharashtra state India. Water essential for conservation of environment has also been made available in river as environmental flow as per the recommendations of Central Water Commission (CWC) India. Developed optimization model provides optimal monthly operation policies.

Assessment of Climate Chang. for Precipitation and Temperature Using.Statistical Downscaling.Methods in Upper g.davari River Basin, India

In the present study SDSM downscaling.model was used as a tool for downscaling.weather data statistically in upper g.davari river basin. Two g.obal Climate Models (g.Ms), Cg.M3 and HadCM3, have been used to project future maximum temperature (Tmax), minimum temperature (Tmin) and precipitation. The predictor variables are extracted from: 1) the National Centre for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) reanalysis dataset for the period 1961-2003, 2) the simulations from the third-g.neration Hadlycentre Coupled Climate Model (HadCM3) and Coupled g.obal Climate Model (Cg.M3) variability and chang.s in Tmax, Tmin and precipitation under scenarios A1B and A2 of Cg.M3 model and A2 and B2 of HadCM3 model have been presented for future periods: 2020s, 2050s and 2080s. The scatter-plots and cross-correlations are used for verifying.the reliability of the simulation. Maximum temperature increases in future for almost all the scenarios for both g.Ms. Also downscaled future precipitation shows increasing.trends for all scenarios.

Derivation of Multipurpose Sing.e Reservoir Release Policies with Fuzzy Constraints

Recent research modeling.uncertainty in water resource systems has hig.lig.ted the use of fuzzy log.c based approaches. The uncertainties in water resource systems include fuzziness, subjectivity, imprecision and lack of adequate data. In this paper we focus on Fuzzy Linear Prog.amming.(FLP) problem for reservoir opera- tion with fuzzy objectives function and fuzzy constraints. Uncertainty in reservoir operation parameters such as reservoir storag.s, releases for irrig.tion, releases for hydropower production, irrig.tion demands, and power demands are considered by treating.them as a fuzzy set. This study is devoted to the identification of optimal operating.policy using.three different models. A fuzzy linear prog.amming.reservoir operation models are developed within a linear prog.amming.framework. These models are applied to a case study of Jayakwadi reservoir stag. -II, Maharashtra State, India with the objective of maximization of releases for irrig.tion and hydropower. Fuzzy set theory is used to model imprecision in various parameters by developing.three models. First model considers fuzzy resources, second model is with fuzzy technolog.cal coefficients and third model considers both, fuzzy technolog.cal coefficients and fuzzy resources in linear prog.amming.framework. Fuzziness in objective function and in the constraints is quantified by a membership functions. These three models are solved to obtain compromise solution by simultaneously optimizing.the fuzzified objectives and constraints. The deg.ee of satisfaction is obtained by simultaneously optimizing.the objectives are 0.53, 0.52 and 0.525 by three models respectively. The obtained result show that proposed methodolog. provides an effective and useful tool for reservoir operation where decision maker can decides to opt for a model depends on the imprecision involved in reservoir operation model parameters.
