The sustainability of rice production continues to be a subject of uncertainty and inquiry attributed to shifts in climatic conditions. In light of the impending climate change crisis and the high labor and water costs accompanying it, direct-seeded rice(DSR) is unquestionably one of the most practical solutions. Despite its resource and climate-friendly advantages, early maturing rice faces weed competitiveness and seedling establishment challenges. Resolving these issues is crucial for promoting its wider adoption among farmers, presenting it as a more effective sustainable rice cultivation method globally. Diverse traditional and contemporary breeding methods are employed to mitigate the limitations of the DSR approach, leveraging advanced techniques such as speed breeding and genome editing. Focusing on key traits like mesocotyl length elongation, early seedling vigor, root system architecture, and weed competitiveness holds promise for transformative improvements in DSR adaptation at a broader scale within farming communities. This review aims to summarize how these features contribute to increased crop production in DSR conditions and explore the research efforts focusing on enhancing DSR adaptation through these traits. Emphasizing the pivotal role of these game-changing traits in DSR adaptation, our analysis sheds light on their potential transformative impact and offers valuable insights for advancing DSR practices.

The increasing data pool in finance sectors forces machine learning(ML)to step into new *** data has significant financial implications and is *** users data from several organizations for various banking services may result in various intrusions and privacy *** a result,this study employs federated learning(FL)using a flower paradigm to preserve each organization’s privacy while collaborating to build a robust shared global ***,diverse data distributions in the collaborative training process might result in inadequate model learning and a lack of *** address this issue,the present paper proposes the imple-mentation of Federated Averaging(FedAvg)and Federated Proximal(FedProx)methods in the flower framework,which take advantage of the data locality while training and guaranteeing global *** improves the privacy of the local *** analysis used the credit card and Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity Intrusion Detection Evaluation(CICIDS)***,recall,and accuracy as performance indicators to show the efficacy of the proposed strategy using FedAvg and *** experimental findings suggest that the proposed approach helps to safely use banking data from diverse sources to enhance customer banking services by obtaining accuracy of 99.55%and 83.72%for FedAvg and 99.57%,and 84.63%for FedProx.

Two-dimensional materials for tunable and nonlinear metaoptics

Metaoptics formed by ultrathin and planar building blocks enable compact and efficient optical devices that manipulate light at the nanoscale. The development of tunable metaoptics holds the promise of miniaturized and efficient optical systems that can dynamically adapt to changing conditions or requirements,propelling innovations in fields ranging from telecommunication and imaging to quantum computing and sensing. Two-dimensional(2D) materials show strong promise in enabling tunable metaoptics due to their exceptional electronic and optical properties from the quantum confinement within the atomically thin layers. In this review, we discuss the recent advancements and challenges of 2D material-based tunable metaoptics in both linear and nonlinear regimes and provide an outlook for prospects in this rapidly advancing area.

Mechanical and corrosion behaviour of hydroxyapatite reinforced Mg-Sn alloy composite by squeeze casting for biomedical applications

Magnesium alloys have gained increasing attention for biomedical applications due to their biocompatibility and the ***(HA)is known to be a highly bioactive because of its similar chemical and crystallographic structures to ***,HA is believed to be a potential ceramic material for the fabrication of Mg based composites,to combine the advantages of both Mg and ***,in general,the composites known to be more susceptible to corrosion attack than the matrix ***,in the present work,Sn is used as an alloying element to evaluate its effect on mechanical as well as corrosion properties of Mg/HA *** with 5 wt%HA and Mg-1 wt%Sn-5 wt%HA composites were prepared separately by stir assisted squeeze casting *** phase analysis and microstructure were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscope(SEM)coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)*** properties were evaluated by conducting the compression and micro hardness *** properties of as-cast composites were studied by linear polarization,Tafel and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS)*** results of both XRD and SEM-EDS revealed that the main constitutional phases of as-cast Mg/HA composites were a-Mg and HA whereas,in Mg-Sn/HA composites,the phase Mg^Sn was observed along with fine distribution of HA *** both the cases,no interfacial reactions *** yield strength,ultimate compression strength and hardness were found to be increased with the addition of Sn in Mg/HA ***,the addition of Sn also played an important role in increasing the corrosion resistance of the Mg/HA composites which was attributed the refinement of grain size and the formation of Mg2Sn phase along the grain ***,it was concluded that the addition of Sn improves both mechanical and corrosion properties of Mg/HA composites.

Effect of humic acids and sunlight on the cytotoxicity of engineered zinc oxide and titanium dioxide nanoparticles to a river bacterial assemblage

The effect of a terrestrial humic acid （HA） and Suwannee River HA on the cytotoxicity of engineered zinc oxide nanoparticles （ZnONPs） and titanium dioxide nanoparticles （TiO2NPs） to natural aquatic bacterial assemblages was measured with spread plate counting. The effect of HA （10 and 40 ppm） on the cytotoxicity of ZnONPs and TiO2NPs was tested factorially in the presence and absence of natural sunlight （light irradiation （LI））. The experiment was of full factorial, completely randomized design and the results were analyzed using the General Linear Model in SAS analytical software. The method of least squares means was used to separate the means or combinations of means. We determined the mechanism of toxicity via measurements of oxidative stress and metal ions. The toxicity of ZnONPs and TiO2NPs to natural aquatic bacterial assemblages appears to be concentration dependent. Moreover, the cytotoxicity of ZnONPs and TiO2NPs appeared to be affected by HA concentration, the presence of sunlight irradiation, and the dynamic multiple interactions among these factors. With respect to light versus darkness in the control group, the data indicate that bacterial viability was inhibited more in the light exposure than in the darkness exposure. The same was true in the HA treatment groups. With respect to terrestrial versus Suwanee River HA for a given nanoparticle, in light versus darkness, bacterial viability was more inhibited in the light treatment groups containing the terrestrial HA than in those containing Suwanee River HA. Differences in the extent of reactive oxygen species formation, adsorption/binding of ZnONPs/TiO2NPs by HA, and the levels of free metal ions were speculated to account for the observed cytotoxicity. TEM images indicate the attachment and binding of the tested nanoparticles to natural bacterial assemblages. Fabrication of Schiff base coordinated ZnS nanoparticles for enhanced photocatalytic degradation of chlorpyrifos pesticide and detection of heavy metal ions
