No evidence for higher rates of hepatocellular carcinoma after direct-acting antiviral treatment: a meta-analysis

Aim:Hepatitis C virus(HCV)is the leading cause of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in the United *** sustained viral response with interferon(IFN)treatment reduces the risk from 3%-5%to 0.5%-1%*** studies reported unexpectedly high rates of HCC after treatment with direct-acting antivirals(DAAs).The aim of our study was to compare HCC rates in DAA-,IFN-treated and untreated ***:A literature search was conducted using ScienceDirect,Ovid?,Web of Science and MEDliNE through January *** were included if they measured rates of de novo or recurrent HCC(following curative treatment)in HCV-infected *** included 138 studies(n=177,512).Simple pooling of data and meta-analysis were performed,using the random effects ***:Mean age was higher in the DAA-treated ***-treated group(58.4 years vs.52.6 years;P=0.0073),as were diabetes prevalence(34.5%vs.11.7%;P≤0.001)and incident cirrhosis(47.8%vs.34.2%,P=0.0017).The incidence rate of de novo HCC was 2.01/100 person-years(py)(95%CI:1.38,2.67)in the DAA group and 1.45/100py(95%CI:0.98,1.94)in the IFN-treated *** recurred at 16.76/100py(95%CI:10.75,22.91)in the DAA-treated group vs.20.04/100py(95%CI:2.58,45.21)after *** adjusting for factors such as age and cirrhosis,the hazard ratio was 0.58(95%CI:0.20,1.07)for HCC occurrence and 0.59(95%CI:0.24,1.03)for HCC recurrence after DAA treatment compared to IFN-based treatment. ;Conclusion:We did not find evidence for increased rates of HCC in DAA-treated compared with IFN-treated *** to those treated with IFN,older patients with additional risk factors for HCC were treated with *** imbalance appears to explain the higher numerical incidence of HCC among DAA-treated patients.

The present study compared the empathy ability between high borderline personality disorder (BPD) symptom group and Low BPD symptom group by using questionnaires investigation and experimental approach. In the first study, the questionnaires were administered to a sample of 623 Shenzhen university’s students to examine the relationship between borderline personality disorder and empathy. Instruments include the McLean Screening Instrument for Borderline Personality Disorder (MSI-BPD, Zanarini et al,2003;Wang, Leung and Zhong, 2008), Basic Empathy Scale (BES, darrick et al,2006;li, Zhong and Lu, 2011), Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI, Davis,1980;Zhang, Dong and Wang, 2010), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS, Taylor et al,1994;Yuan et al, 2003). 63 students score more than 6 on MSI-BPD, 162 students score 0 on MSI-BPD. The results showed that BPD group had significant higher emotional empathy ability (t=-2.95, p=0.003), higher personal distress scores (t=-6.84, p=0.000). BPD group also had significantly lower cognitive empathy scores(t=4.15,p=0.000), lower ability of empathy concern (t=3.26, p=0.001), and lower ability of perspective taking (t=2.39, p=0.018).The result of TAS-20 shows BPD have more difficulties in recognizing their feelings (t=-13.725, p=0.000), describing their feelings (t=-9.184, p=0.300), and BPD’s total scores of TAS significant higher than control group (t=-10.94, p=0.000). In the second study, we used video clip to induce emotional empathy. Subjects from the Beijing University students, among whom high group score more than 7 in MSI-BPD and low group score 0. In the negative emotion induced group, high BPD has 20 students, the low group 20s;the non-emotion induced group has high BPD of 9, the low of 20. Experimental results showed that the BPD group has more negative evaluations on negative emotion face except for evaluating disgust as agreeable.
