synergistic Combination of Carbapenems and Colistin against P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii

Background: Intubated patients are particularly at risk of developing infections caused by these pathogens, specifically, P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii. In the past fifteen years, Carbapenems were known to be the drugs of choice for these bacteria. With the increase in the use and misuse of antibiotics, these bacteria became highly resistant, and almost all available antibiotics, including Carbapenems, became inefficient. synergistic combination therapy may be a useful strategy in slowing as well as overcoming the emergence of resistance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-bacterial activity on P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii of the combination of two antibiotics: Colistin and a Carbapenem (Meropenem or Imipenem). Methods: The antibacterial activity was assessed by determining the MIC. Then, the effect of combining the antibiotics was studied using the Checkerboard Technique described by White et al., 1996. The Fractional Inhibitory Concentration (FIC) for each strain was then calculated and classified as synergy, additive, indifference or antagonism. 11 strains of A. baumannii and 11 strains of P. aeruginosa were tested in the presence of Meropenem combined with Colistin or Imipenem combined with Colistin. Results: For the combination of Meropenem and Colistin, 6 strains of A. baumannii and 3 strains of P. aeruginosa showed synergy while 5 strains of A. baumannii and 7 strains of P. aeruginosa showed additive effect, only 1 strain of P. aeruginosa showed antagonism. For Imipenem and Colistin, only 1 strain of A. baumannii and 3 strains of Pseudomonas showed synergy while 8 strains of Acinetobacter and 8 strains of Pseudomonas showed additive effect. Conclusion: The “in vitro” combination Colistin-Carbapenem is associated with an improvement in MIC. In the majority of the cases, this improvement suggests a synergistic combination or an additive effect.

The Effect of Overweight on The Risk of Recurrence in Tunisian Patients with Operable Breast Cancer

Obesity is associated with worse breast cancer outcomes in Western and Asian women. The present study was to determine the relation of body mass index (BMI) to disease-free survival (DFs) in Tunisian patients with operable breast cancer. We retrospectively reviewed data from 223 patients with operable breast cancer treated with primary surgery and adjuvant epirubicin-based chemotherapy. Patients were categorized into lower-BMI (2;N=114) v higher-BMI (>27.5 kg/m2;N=113). Patients’and disease characteristics, including tumor size and lymph node status, were similar between the 2 groups. With a median follow-up of 56 months, there were 42 and 30 DFs events in the lower- and higher-BMI group, respectively (adjusted hazard ratio (HR): 0.74;95% CI, 0.43 to 1.26;p=0.26). A significant interaction (ps found between BMI category and time, with a significant DFs advantage for the higher-BMI group after 3 years (adjusted HR: 0.28;95% CI, i to 0.86;p=0.03). We conclude that overweight is associated with a decreased risk of late recurrence in Tunisian patients with operable breast cancer.

The main aim of this study is to explore the existence and salient features of spherically symmetric relativistic quark stars in the background of massive Brans-Dicke *** exact solutions to the modified Einstein field equations are derived for specific forms of coupling and scalar field functions using the equation of state relating to the strange quark matter that stimulates the phenomenological MIT-Bag model as a free Fermi gas of *** use a well-behaved function along with the Karmarkar condition for class-one embedding as well as junction conditions to determine the unknown metric *** radii of strange compact stars viz.,PsR J1416-2230,PsR J1903+327,4U 1820-30,CenX-3,and EXO1785-248,are predicted via their observed mass for different values of the massive Brans-Dicke *** explore the influences of the mass of scalar field m_(ϕ),coupling parameter ωBD,and bag constant B on state determinants and perform several tests on the viability and stability of the constructed stellar ***,we find that our stellar system is physically viable and stable as it satisfies all the energy conditions and necessary stability criteria under the influence of a gravitational scalar field.

Error Detection and Reconfigurationin Reliable Ethernet Train Networks

In this paper, a novel reconfiguration technique is developed in the context of a fault-tolerant Networked Control system (NCs) in two train wagons. All sensors, controllers and actuators in both wagons are connected on top of a single Gigabit Ethernet network. The network also carries wired and wireless entertainment loads. A Markov model is used to prove that this reconfiguration technique reduces the effect of a failure in the error detection and switching mechanisms on the reliability of the control function. All calculations are based on closed-form solutions and verified using the sHARPE software package.

Background and purpose We evaluate whether non-haemorrhagic imaging markers(NHIM)(white matter hyperintensity patterns,lacunes and enlarged perivascular spaces(EPVs))can discriminate cerebral amyloid angiopathy(CAA)from hypertensive cerebral small vessel disease(HTN-csVD)among patients with isolated lobar intracerebral haemorrhage(isolated-LICH).Methods In patients with isolated-LICH,four csVD aetiologic groups were created by incorporating the presence/distribution of NHIM:HTN-csVD pattern,CAA pattern,mixed NHIM and no *** pattern consisted of patients with any combination of severe centrum semiovale EPVs,lobar lacunes or multiple subcortical spots ***-csVD pattern consisted of any HTN-csVD markers:severe basal ganglia PVs,deep lacunes or peribasal ganglia white matter hyperintensity *** NHIM consisted of at least one imaging marker from either *** hypothesis was that patients with HTN-csVD pattern/mixed NHIM would have a higher frequency of left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH),which is associated with *** In 261 patients with isolated-LICH,CAA pattern was diagnosed in 93 patients,HTN-csVD pattern in 53 patients,mixed NHIM in 19 patients and no NHIM in 96 *** frequency of LVH was similar among those with HTN-csVD pattern and mixed NHIM(50%vs 39%,p=0.418)but was more frequent in HTN-csVD pattern compared with CAA pattern(50%vs 20%,pssion model,HTN-csVD pattern(OR:7.38;95%CI 2.84 to 19.20)and mixed NHIM(OR:4.45;95%CI 1.25 to 15.90)were found to be independently associated with *** Among patients with isolated-LICH,NHIM may help differentiate HTN-csVD from CAA,using LVH as a marker for HTN-csVD.

Ba0.85Ca0.15Zr0.10Ti0.90O3(BCZT)lead-free ceramics demonstrated excellent dielectric,ferroelectric,and piezoelectric properties at the morphotropic phase boundary(MPB).so far,to study the effect of morphological changes on dielectric and ferroelectric properties in lead-free BCZT ceramics,researchers have mostly focused on the influence of spherical grain shape *** this study,BCZT ceramics with rod-like grains and aspect ratio of about 10 were synthesized by surfactant-assisted solvothermal route.X-ray diffraction(XRD)and selected area electron diffraction(sAED)performed at room temperature confirm the crystallization of pure perovskite with tetragonal *** electron microscopy(sEM)image showed that BCZT ceramics have kept the 1D rod-like grains with an average aspect ratio of about ***-like BCZT ceramics exhibit enhanced dielectric ferroelectric(εr=11,906,tanδ=0.014,Pr=6.01μC/cm^2,and Ec=2.46 kV/cm),and electrocaloric properties(ΔT=0.492 K andz=0.289(K×mm)/kV at 17 kV/cm)with respect to spherical BCZT ***,rod-like BCZT lead-free ceramics have good potential to be used in solid-state refrigeration technology.

随着生活水平的提高,家用电器和工业用电量不断增加,传统的火力发电效率不高、不可再生且污染环境,可再生能源发电在这里发挥着至关重要的作用。可再生能源发电包括水力发电、太阳能发电及风力发电等。风力涡轮机利用风力发电,它不像太阳能那样依赖于阳光直射,又不像水利发电过分依赖特定地点的水势运动。风力涡轮机能源系统不会污染环境,它既便宜又可靠。然而,风力涡轮机在其可使用周期中运行一段时间后会出现多次故障,故进行故障的检测意义重大。由于风机叶片较大,人为施工检测费时费力,故开发一种高效合理的风机叶片缺陷检测算法进行实际应用显得十分必要。风力发电机有不同的部分,其故障可以发生在塔架、转子或叶片,叶片故障对能源的生产有很大的影响,因为叶片对风力发电机来说是至关重要的,因此我们应该进行预防性维护,以防止可能影响叶片可靠性的严重缺陷,为此,缺陷检测方法可能是一项必要的技术,因为这是质量控制和保证过程的一部分。本文的缺陷检测方法基于红外热成像无损检测、主成分分析(PCA)和图像分割网络U-net,我们使用具有32个平底孔的碳纤维增强塑料(CFRP)作为叶片样品,首先是将样品放置在扫描热像仪的视场中,在卤素灯激励下移动样品位置以进行大范围内的风机叶片检查,采集所需的热成像数据。其次,我们使用PCA进行数据压缩和重建,这是因为热成像缺陷检测数据有很多不需要的特征需要剔除,程序处理这些冗余数据会占用大量的时间和资源。最后使用了语义分割架构U-net,U-net对样本预测并进行缺陷分割,由此可以清晰地看到样本中存在的缺陷情况。同时,U-net定位了样品中存在的内部缺陷,并把背景区域和缺陷区域以不同的颜色分开。

Evaluating the Performance of Fault-Tolerant s2A vs. In-Loop Controller Models for Ethernet-Based NCs

Two different controller-level fault-tolerant models for Ethernet-based Networked Control systems (NCss) are presented in this paper. These models are studied using unmodified Fast and Gigabit Ethernet. The first is an in-loop controller model while the second is a direct sensor to Actuator (s2A) model. OMNeT++ simulations showed the success of both models in meeting system end-to-end delay and strict zero packet loss (with no over-delayed packets) requirements. It was shown in the literature that the s2A model has a lower end-to-end delay than the in-loop controller model. It will be shown here that, on the one hand, the in-loop fault-tolerant model performs better in terms of less total end-to-end delay than the s2A model in the fault-free situation. While, on the other hand, in the scenario with the failed controller(s), the s2A model was shown to have less total end-to-end delay.

Air Flow Prediction and Evaluation of Ventilation Effectiveness with Different Zonal Configurations

This paper proposes a numerical method for the study of ventilation efficiency in buildings. The developed model is validated with the experimental results of Nielsen who tested the isothermal flow in a scaled model of a ventilated room. A zonal method is used to predict airflow patterns in the same ventilated room. The different equations governing the flow in the room were coded in Matlab for different operating conditions, different zonal configurations of the room and different number of cells （control volumes）. The efficiency of the ventilation was determined by calculating the number of ACH （air changes per hour） for each cell. The present results show the importance of the inlet air flow rate, the space resolution and the jet inlet dimensions on the determination of air quality.

Chimp Optimization Algorithm(ChOA)is one of the most efficient recent optimization algorithms,which proved its ability to deal with different problems in various ***,ChOA suffers from the weakness of the local search technique which leads to a loss of diversity,getting stuck in a local minimum,and procuring premature *** response to these defects,this paper proposes an improved ChOA algorithm based on using Opposition-based learning(OBL)to enhance the choice of better solutions,written as ***,utilizing Reinforcement Learning(RL)to improve the local research technique of OChOA,called *** way effectively avoids the algorithm falling into local *** performance of the proposed RLOChOA algorithm is evaluated using the Friedman rank test on a set of CEC 2015 and CEC 2017 benchmark functions problems and a set of CEC 2011 real-world *** results and statistical experiments show that RLOChOA provides better solution quality,convergence accuracy and stability compared with other state-of-the-art algorithms.
