cDNA-AFLP analysis reveals differential gene expression in incompatible interaction between infected non-heading Chinese cabbage and Hyaloperonospora parasitica

Non-heading Chinese cabbage(Brassica rapa ssp.chinensis)is one of the main green leafy vegetables in the world,especially in China,with significant economic value.Hyaloperonospora parasitica is a fungal pathogen responsible for causing downy mildew disease in Chinese cabbage,which greatly affects its production.The objective of this study was to identify transcriptionally regulated genes during incompatible interactions between non-heading Chinese cabbage and H.parasitica using complementary DNA-amplified fragment length polymorphism(cDNA-AFLP).We obtained 129 reliable differential transcript-derived fragments(TDFs)in a resistant line‘Suzhou Qing’.Among them,121 upregulated TDFs displayed an expression peak at 24–48 h post inoculation(h.p.i.).Fifteen genes were further selected for validation of cDNA-AFLP expression patterns using quantitative reverse transcription PCR.Results confirmed the altered expression patterns of 13 genes(86.7%)revealed by the cDNA-AFLP.We identified four TDFs related to fungal resistance among the 15 TDFs.Furthermore,comparative analysis of four TDFs between resistant line‘Suzhou Qing’and susceptible line‘Aijiao Huang’showed that transcript levels of TDF14(BcLIK1_A01)peaked at 48 h.***.i.and 25.1-fold increased in the resistant line compared with the susceptible line.Similarly,transcript levels of the other three genes,TDF42(BcCAT3_A07),TDF75(BcAAE3_A06)and TDF88(BcAMT2_A05)peaked at 24,48 and 24 h.***.i.with 25.1-,100-and 15.8-fold increases,respectively.The results suggested that the resistance genes tended to transcribe at higher levels in the resistance line than in the susceptible line,which may provide resistance against pathogen infections.The present study might facilitate elucidating the molecular basis of the infection process and identifying candidate genes for resistance improvement of susceptible cultivars.

Multi-time Collaborative Restoration for Integrated Electrical-gas Distribution Systems Based on Rolling Optimization

This paper proposes a multi-time collaborative restoration model for integrated electricity-gas distribution sys-tems(IEGDSs)considering multiple resources after extreme weather events.Based on the linearized power flow constraints of the unbalanced electrical distribution system(EDS)and gas distribution system(GDS),this problem can be formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming(MILP)model.To improve the efficiency and veracity of the solution,a rolling optimiza-tion based two-stage method is developed with the first stage solved by a linear approximation model,and the second stage solved by real-time updated rolling optimization.By solving the MILP problem using rolling optimization,the proposed model and solution method achieve efficient and reliable collaborative restoration of IEGDS considering multiple resources and unbal-anced operation characteristics of EDS.The effectiveness of the proposed model and method is validated by using an IEGDS made of a 37-bus unbalanced EDS and 11-node GDS.Index Terms-Electricity-gas system,mix-integer linear programming,power system restoration.

Gut microbiota-dependent phenylacetylglutamine in cardiovascular disease:current knowledge and new insights

Phenylacetylglutamine(PAGln)is an amino acid derivate that comes from the amino acid phenylalanine.There are increasing studies showing that the level of PAGln is associated with the risk of different cardiovascular diseases.In this review,we discussed the metabolic pathway of PAGln production and the quantitative measurement methods of PAGln.We summarized the epidemiological evidence to show the role of PAGln in diagnostic and prognostic value in several cardiovascular diseases,such as heart failure,coronary heart disease/atherosclerosis,and cardiac arrhythmia.The underlying mechanism of PAGln is now considered to be related to the thrombotic potential of platelets via adrenergic receptors.Besides,other possible mechanisms such as inflammatory response and oxidative stress could also be induced by PAGln.Moreover,since PAGln is produced across different organs including the intestine,liver,and kidney,the cross-talk among multiple organs focused on the function of this uremic toxic metabolite.Finally,the prognostic value of PAGln compared to the classical biomarker was discussed and we also highlighted important gaps in knowledge and areas requiring future investigation of PAGln in cardiovascular diseases.

Effect of initial ammonium concentration on a one-stage partial nitrification/anammox biofilm system:Nitrogen removal performance and the microbial community

One-stage partial nitrification coupled with anammox(PN/A)technology effectively reduces the energy consumption of a biological nitrogen removal system.Inhibiting nitrite-oxidizing bacteria(NOB)is essential for this technology to maintain efficient nitrogen removal performance.Initial ammonium concentration(IAC)affects the degree of inhibited NOB.In this study,the effect of the IAC on a PN/A biofilm was investigated in a moving bed biofilm reactor.The results showed that nitrogen removal efficiency decreased from 82.49%±1.90%to 64.57%±3.96%after the IAC was reduced from 60 to 20 mg N/L,while the nitrate production ratio increased from 13.87%±0.90%to 26.50%±3.76%.NOB activity increased to1,133.86 mg N/m^(2)/day after the IAC decreased,approximately 4-fold,indicating that the IAC plays an important inhibitory role in NOB.The rate-limiting step in the mature biofilm of the PN/A system is the nitritation process and is not shifted by the IAC.The analysis of the microbial community structure in the biofilm indicates that the IAC was the dominant factor in changes in community structure.Ca.Brocadia and Ca.Jettenia were the main anammox bacteria,and Nitrosomonas and Nitrospira were the main AOB and NOB,respectively.IAC did not affect the difference in growth between Ca.Brocadia and Ca.Jettenia.Thus,modulating the IAC promoted the PN/A process with efficient nitrogen removal performance at medium to low ammonium concentrations.

Impact of Media Information on Social Response in Disasters:A Case Study of the Freezing‑Rain and Snowstorm Disasters in Southern China in 2008

Disaster information content is an objective mapping of disaster situations,social response,and public opinions.Social response to emergency is an important mechanism for implementing and guaranteeing emergency management of major natural hazard-related disasters.Understanding how disaster information content affects social response to emergencies is helpful for managing risk communication and efficient disaster response.Based on the 2008 freezing-rain and snowstorm disasters in southern China,this study used Python to extract 7,857 case-related media reports and applied natural language processing for text analysis.It used three typical cases to identify and analyze disaster media report content and the relationship between these reports and the social response to the emergency.Eight categories of disaster response-such as prewarning and forecasting,announcements by the authorities,and social mobilization-appeared in the disaster information in the media,along with disaster impact information,that is,real-time disaster status.Disaster response information and an appropriate amount of disaster impact information played important roles in prewarning,disaster relief,public opinion guidance,and social stability maintenance and can serve important functions in communicating with all stakeholders of emergency management,assisting or influencing emergency departments or individuals in decision making,and eliminating "information islands." Empathy caused the general public to become "disaster responders" through receiving information.Rumors and an excess of negative information may have a perverse amplification effect on public opinion and increase the unpredictability of the disaster situation and the risk of social crisis.

Highly efficient recovery of waste LiNi_(x)Co_(y)Mn_(z)O_(2) cathode materials using a process involving pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy

Substantial environmental and economic benefits can be achieved by recycling used lithium-ion batteries. Hydrometallurgy is often employed to recover waste LiNi_(x)Co_(y)Mn_(z)O_(2) cathode materials. As Ni, Co and Mn are transition metals, they exhibit similar properties;therefore, separating them is difficult. Thus, most researchers have focused on leaching processes, while minimal attention has been devoted to the separation of valuable metals from waste LiNi_(x)Co_(y)Mn_(z)O_(2) cathode materials. Herein, we propose an environment-friendly, gentle process involving the usage of pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy to gradually leach valuable metals and effectively separate them. Interestingly, Li is recovered through a reduction roasting and water leaching process using natural graphite powder, Ni and Co are recovered through ammonia leaching and extraction processes and Mn is recovered through acid leaching and evaporation–crystallization processes. Results show that ~87% Li, 97.01% Co, 97.08% Ni and 99% Mn can be leached using water, ammonia and acid leaching processes. The result obtained using the response surface methodology shows that the concentration of (NH4)2SO3 is a notable factor affecting the leaching of transition metals. Under optimal conditions, ~97.01% Co, 97.08% Ni and 0.64% Mn can be leached out. The decomposition of LiNi_(x)Co_(y)Mn_(z)O_(2) is a two-step process. This study provides valuable insights to develop an environment-friendly, gentle leaching process for efficiently recycling valuable metals, which is vital for the lithium-ion battery recycling industry.

Heart injury such as myocardial infarction leads to cardiomyocyte loss,fibrotic tissue deposition,and scar formation.These changes reduce cardiac contractility,resulting in heart failure,which causes a huge public health burden.Military personnel,compared with civilians,is exposed to more stress,a risk factor for heart diseases,making cardiovascular health management and treatment innovation an important topic for military medicine.So far,medical intervention can slow down cardiovascular disease progression,but not yet induce heart regeneration.In the past decades,studies have focused on mechanisms underlying the regenerative capability of the heart and applicable approaches to reverse heart injury.Insights have emerged from studies in animal models and early clinical trials.Clinical interventions show the potential to reduce scar formation and enhance cardiomyocyte proliferation that counteracts the pathogenesis of heart disease.In this review,we discuss the signaling events controlling the regeneration of heart tissue and summarize current therapeutic approaches to promote heart regeneration after injury.

Identifying the enhancement mechanism of Al/MoO_(3) reactive multilayered films on the ignition ability of semiconductor bridge using a one-dimensional gas-solid two-phase flow model

Energetic Semiconductor bridge(ESCB)based on reactive multilayered films(RMFs)has a promising application in the miniature and intelligence of initiator and pyrotechnics device.Understanding the ignition enhancement mechanism of RMFs on semiconductor bridge(SCB)during the ignition process is crucial for the engineering and practical application of advanced initiator and pyrotechnics devices.In this study,a one-dimensional(1D)gas-solid two-phase flow ignition model was established to study the ignition process of ESCB to charge particles based on the reactivity of Al/MoO_(3) RMFs.In order to fully consider the coupled exothermic between the RMFs and the SCB plasma during the ignition process,the heat release of chemical reaction in RMFs was used as an internal heat source in this model.It is found that the exothermal reaction in RMFs improved the ignition performance of SCB.In the process of plasma rapid condensation with heat release,the product of RMFs enhanced the heat transfer process between the gas phase and the solid charge particle,which accelerated the expansion of hot plasma,and heated the solid charge particle as well as gas phase region with low temperature.In addition,it made up for pressure loss in the gas phase.During the plasma dissipation process,the exothermal chemical reaction in RMFs acted as the main heating source to heat the charge particle,making the surface temperature of the charge particle,gas pressure,and gas temperature rise continuously.This result may yield significant advantages in providing a universal ignition model for miniaturized ignition devices.

Endosulfan residues and farmers’replacement behaviors of endosulfan in the north-west inland cotton region

We assessed the situation of endosulfan residues in cotton fields after the endosulfan ban came into effect and the current knowledge,attitude,and practice(KAP)of cotton farmers on the phase-out of endosulfan and the application of alternative technologies.Topsoil samples(n=91)of cotton fields were collected from the major cotton-producing areas in China,namely the north-west inland cotton region,and the endosulfan residues were analyzed.A KAP survey was carried out for cotton farmers,and 291 questionnaires were distributed.The influences of gender,age,education background,cotton planting years,publicity and training,income sources,and other factors on cotton farmers’KAP were analyzed.The results showed that endosulfan sulfate was the main endosulfan residue in the soil,followed byβ-endosulfan andα-endosulfan,the average residual contents were 0.569,0.139,and 0.060μg/kg,respectively.The results of the KAP study showed that cotton farmers scored low on knowledge about the phase-out of endosulfan and the application of alternative technologies but high on attitude and practice.The number of family members,years of cotton planting,age,and the cottonplanting area had different degrees of influence on KAP scores.The training could significantly improve the KAP scores of cotton farmers;training should be more targeted and designed reasonably for key groups,such as men and the population under 30,followed by training them to use pesticides safely.For large-scale cotton growers,training should focus on green prevention and control technologies.
