Overweight and obesity in young adults with patellofemoral pain:Impact on functional capacity and strength

Purpose:This study aimed to(a)investigate the proportion of overweight/obesity in a cohort of young adults with patellofemoral pain(PFP)and(b)explore the association of body mass index(BMI),body fat,and lean mass with functional capacity and hip and knee strength in people with ***:We included a mixed-sex sample of young adults(18-35 years old)with PFP(n=100).Measurements for BMI,percentage of body fat,and lean mass(assessed by bioelectrical impedance)were *** capacity was assessed by the Anterior Knee Pain Scale,plank test,and single-leg hop *** of the knee extensors,knee flexors,and hip abductors was evaluated isometrically using an isokinetic *** proportion of overweight/obesity was calculated based on *** association between BMI,body fat,and lean mass and functional capacity and strength was investigated using partial correlations,followed by hierarchical regression analysis,adjusted for covariates(sex,bilateral pain,and current pain level).Results:A total of 38%of our cohort had their BMI categorized as overweight/*** BMI was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.06-0.12,pciated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.05-0.15,p≤0.015)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.15-0.23,pciated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.04-0.13,p≤0.032)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.29-0.31,pconclusion:BMI,body fat,and lean mass should be considered in the assessment and management of young people with PFP because it may be detrimental to function and strength.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune treatable but not curable *** are a multiplicity of medications for multiple sclerosis therapy,including a class entitled disease-modifying drugs that are mainly indicated to reduce the number and severity of disease *** all patients respond well to these therapies,and minor to severe adverse effects have been *** D,called sunshine vitamin,is being studied as a possible light at the end of the *** this review,we recapitulated the similar immunopathogenesis of multiple sclerosis and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis,the immunomodulatory and neuroprotective potential of vitamin D and the state-of-art concerning its supplementation to multiple sclerosis ***,based on our and other groups’experimental findings,we analyzed the need to consider the relevance of the route and the different time-point administration aspects for a more rational indication of this vitamin to multiple sclerosis patients.

Background:We compared body mass index(BMI),body fat,and skeletal muscle mass between(1) a mixed-sex nonathletic cohort of people with patellofemoral pain(PFP) and pain-free people,and(2) a nonathletic cohort of people with PFP and pain-free people subgrouped by sex(i.e.,men and women with PFP ***-free men and women).Methods:This cross-sectional study included 114 people with PFP(71 women,43 men) and 54 pain-free controls(32 women,22 men).All participants attended a single testing session to assess body composition measures,which included BMI,percentage of body fat(%BFBioimpedance),and skeletal muscle mass(both assessed by bioelectrical impedance analysis),and percentage of body fat(%BFskinfoid)(assessed by skinfold caliper analysis).A one-way univariate analysis of covariance(age and physical activity levels as covariates) was used to compare body composition measures between groups(i.e.,PFP ***-free group;women with PFP ***-free women;men with PFP ***-free men).Results:Women with PFP presented significantly higher BMI,%BFBiompedance,and %BFSkinfold,and lower skeletal muscle mass compared to pain-free women(p≤0.04;effect size:-0.47 to 0.85).Men with PFP and men and women combined had no differences in BMI,%BFBioimpedance,%BFSkinfold,and skeletal muscle mass compared to their respective pain-free groups(p> 0.05).conclusion:Our findings indicate that BMI and body composition measures should be considered as part of the evaluation and management of people with PFP,especially in women,who have demonstrated higher BMI and body fat and lower skeletal muscle mass compared to pain-free *** studies should not assess body composition measures in a mixed-sex population without distinguishing men participants from women participants.

Early Life Stress as Factor for Use of Psychoactive Substances: Integrative Review

Purpose: To identify, analyze and synthetize the scientific evidences that support Early Life Stress (ELS) diagnosis using the childhood Trauma Questionnaire (cTQ), since it assumes the use of psychoactive substances later in adolescence and adulthood. Individuals that experienced some form of childhood stress may present, in adulthood, consequences that manifest into mental disorders such as problematic use of psychoactive substances. Methods: An integrative review of the literature on the subject in the databases: PubMed, Web of Science, LILAcS and Psycinfo, regards studies that have been indexed in the last ten years (2003-2014). combination of controlled and uncontrolled factors in the use and abuse of psychoactive substances, cTQ and ELS adapted to each database. Findings: The alcohol was the most used drug by the participating subjects of these research;mostly, the use of psychoactive drugs, started when they were still in adolescence;ELS and the later use of psychoactive drugs can be found more frequently in female;the lack of internal resources for dealing with stress in adulthood after ELS occurrence may have as a consequence the use of psychoactive drugs as a coping mechanism. conclusions: It was possible to identify scientific evidences that support the ELS diagnosis, measured by the cTQ, as a determining factor for the use and abuse of alcohol and/or other psychoactive drugs in adolescence and adulthood. Implications: Investigate the ELS as a strategy to improve the therapeutic project of patients in nursing care, which will be built based on scientific evidence, so it can be more effective.

In this paper,we investigated the profitability of technical analysis as applied to the stock markets of the BRIcS member *** addition,we searched for evidence that technical analysis and fundamental analysis can complement each other in these *** implement this research,we created a comprehensive portfolio containing the assets traded in the markets of each BRIcS *** developed an automated trading system that simulated transactions in this portfolio using technical analysis *** assessment updated the findings of previous research by including more recent data and adding South Africa,the latest member included in *** results showed that the returns obtained by the automated system,on average,exceeded the value *** were groups of assets from each country that performed well above the portfolio average,surpassing the returns obtained using a buy and hold *** returns from the sample portfolio were very strong in Russia and *** also found that technical analysis can help fundamental analysis identify the most dynamic companies in the stock market.

Gastric cancer is considered one of the most deadly tumors worldwide. Even with the decline in its incidence, the mortality rate of this disease has remained high, mainly due to its late diagnosis and to the lack of precise prognostic markers. The main purpose of this review is to present genetic, epigenetic and proteomic molecular markers that may be used in a diagnostic and prognostic manner and to discuss the pros and cons of each type of marker for improving clinical practice. In this sense, we observed that the use of genetic markers, especially mutations and polymorphisms, should be carefully considered, as they are strongly affected by ethnicity. Proteomic-based markers show promise, but the higher costs of the associated techniques con-tinue to make this approach expensive for routine use. Alternatively, epigenetic markers appear to be very promising, as they can be detected in bodily fluids as well as tissues. However, such markers must be used carefully because epigenetic changes may occur due to environmental factors and aging. Despite the advances in technology and its access, to date, there are few defined biomarkers of prognostic and diagnostic use for gastric tumors. Therefore, the use of a panel of several approaches(genetic, epigenetic and proteomic) should be considered the best alternative for clinical practice.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the visible loss of sugar cane and the damage to the knuckles, using the John Deere 3520 harvester on three different travel speeds (3.0;4.0 and 5.0 km·h-1), in DIc with five repetitions in campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil. Each treatment was composed by six lines of harvested cane stumps, with a length of 290 m each. In these six lines, the remains of sugar cane left in the field were collected by placing the sampling frame in two central lines every 50 m, and separating 40 m of edge. The sampling area was surrounded by 2 m wide and 10 m long, totaling 20 m2. To calculate the damage to stumps, a visual methodology by [1], was used, which classifies the damage grade, ranging from 1 to 4. Fifty stumps were assessed randomly for each speed, in a sampling area of 1800 m2. The data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey test at 5%, in order to compare the effect of different speeds on the losses and damages. There was no significant difference regarding the loss or damage by comparing the different speeds. Therefore, it is more advantageous to use the speed of 5.0 km·h-1, harvesting more in less time and causing the same level of damage.

The Effect of Different Irrigation Levels in cowpea Production in the Mid-Northern Region of Tocantins—Brazil

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the application of irrigation levels in the productivity and water use efficiency, in the soil and climatic conditions of the municipality of colinas do Tocantins, located in the Mid-Northern region of the State of Tocantins. The cowpea cultivation system was submitted to the application of five irrigation blades, based on ET0—Reference Evapotranspiration: Blade 0% of ET0, Blade 50% of ET0, Blade 75% of ET0, Blade 100% of ET0 and Blade 125% of ET0 (B0, B50, B75, B100 and B125% of ET0). The descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data, applying the 95% confidence interval to discriminate the differences between the treatments, since the replicates were constituted of 100 plants harvested at random within the plot for each treatment and no design method was performed. A significant effect of the different levels was found on all evaluated components, with the exception of the length of the pod, which did not differ in the irrigation levels. The increase in irrigation contributed to the increase of the results of the components that compete directly for higher productivity, such as number of pods per plant, weight of pods and number of seeds per pod. In these results, it was found that higher irrigation levels confer higher yields. Water-use efficiency—WUE behaved as per productivity trend, that is, it decreased with the reduction of irrigation levels.

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Preloaded IOL Injectors in Surgical Time

Background: The implantation of the intraocular lens (IOL) is still subject to error and complication, as it can result in traumatic opening of the IOL leading to rupture of the posterior capsule and zonular dialysis, it takes time to train paramedic teams to assemble such IOLs with the manual injectors. Moreover, there is a potential risk of comtamination and endophthalmitis as there is manipulation of the IOL and cartridge. The preloaded IOLs tend to reduce those unwanted results and may optimize the surgical time. Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness and implantation time between three injectors and three intraocular lenses, two pre-loaded and one conventional. Methodology: Videos of thirty patients undergoing cataract surgery from December 2019 to December 2020 at the Hospital Oftalmológico de Brasília (HOB), Brasília, Brazil were included in this observational, analytical retrospective study, non randomized. All patients had their surgeries recorded, from which the time of injection and opening of the intraocular lens (IOL) was extracted, 20 eyes were implanted with preloaded intraocular lens, and 10 eyes with conventional IOL implant. The patients were divided into three groups with similar eye characteristics.
