Advances in Active Suspension Systems for Road Vehicles

Active suspension systems(ASSs)have been proposed and developed for a few decades,and have now once again become a thriving topic in both academia and industry,due to the high demand for driving comfort and safety and the compatibility of ASSs with vehicle electrification and *** review papers on ASSs mainly cover dynamics modeling and robust control;however,the gap between academic research outcomes and industrial application requirements has not yet been bridged,hindering most ASS research knowledge from being transferred to vehicle *** paper comprehensively reviews advances in ASSs for road vehicles,with a focus on hardware structures and control *** particular,state-of-the-art ASSs that have been recently adopted in production cars are discussed in detail,including the representative solutions of mercedes active body control(ABC)and Audi predictive active suspension;novel concepts that could become alternative candidates are also introduced,including series active variable geometry suspension,and the active wheel-alignment *** with compact structure,small mass increment,low power consumption,high-frequency response,acceptable economic costs,and high reliability are more likely to be adopted by car *** terms of control strategies,the development of future ASSs aims not only to stabilize the chassis attitude and attenuate the chassis vibration,but also to enable ASSs to cooperate with other modules(e.g.,steering and braking)and sensors(e.g.,cameras)within a car,and even with high-level decision-making(e.g.,reference driving speed)in the overall transportation system-strategies that will be compatible with the rapidly developing electric and autonomous vehicles.

Motorized spiral enteroscopy(MSE)is the latest advance in device-assisted *** events related to MSE were discussed in a recent large systematic review and meta-analysis and were directly compared with those of balloon enteroscopy in a case-matched study and a randomized controlled *** the real-life application of MSE,an unexpected safety issue emerged regarding esophageal injury and the technique has been withdrawn from the global market,despite encouraging results in terms of diagnostic and therapeutic *** conducted an Italian multicenter real-life prospective study,which was prematurely terminated after the withdrawal of MSE from the *** primary goals were the evaluation of MSE performance(both diagnostic and therapeutic)and its safety in routine endoscopic practice,particularly in the early phase of introduction in the endoscopic unit.A subanalysis,which involved patients who underwent MSE after unsuccessful balloon enteroscopy,demonstrated,for the first time,the promising performance of MSE as a rescue *** its remarkable performance in clinical practice and its potential role as a backup technique following a previously failed enteroscopy,it may be more appropriate to refine and enhance MSE in the future rather than completely abandoning it.

Broad Hormonal Responses Induced by Aluminum in Roots of Dwarf Transgenics of Solanum lycopersicum L. cv “Micro-Tom”

The spatial pattern distribution of plant hormones in response to aluminum (Al) toxicity in roots remains to be shown. This study was performed to assess the root hormonal accumulation and gene expression in response to Al toxicity in five transgenic miniature dwarf tomatoes cv. Micro-Tom (MT). MT and MT transgenics to acid indole acetic, cytokinin, gibberellin, abscisic acid and ethylene were cultivated in nutrient solutions containing different Al concentrations. Root growth elongation was measured and cellular damage was visualized by staining Evans’s blue. The gUS reporter gene staining technique was used to visualize hormonal changes in MT apex root tissues. Data indicated that the MT is sensitive to Al that induced significant growth inhibition and cellular damage. Al concentration of 27 μM was significantly toxic, inducing root apex darkening and inhibition of root development. The qualitative evaluation of gUS reporter gene expression showed intense crosstalk among all hormones studied, underscoring the complexity of signaling induced by Al in apex roots. Results point out to a major understanding of the hormonal signaling in response to Al toxicity, which may induce a change of root growth and architecture with growth inhibition and cell constraints modulated by all different hormones evaluated.

We aim to evaluate the incidence of incontinence following laser endoscopic enucleation of the prostate(EEP)comparing en-bloc(group 1)versus 2-lobe/3-lobe techniques(group 2).We performed a retrospective review of patients undergoing EEP for benign prostaticenlargement in 12 centers between January 2020 and January *** were presented as median and interquartile range(IQR).Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate factors associated with stress urinary incontinence(SUI)and mixed urinary incontinence(MUI).There were 1711 patients in group 1 and 3357 patients in group *** in group 2were significantly younger(68[62–73]years vs 69[63–74]years,P=0.002).median(interquartile range)prostate volume(PV)wassimilar between the groups(70[52–92]ml in group 1 vs 70[54–90]ml in group 2,P=0.774).There was no difference in preoperativeInternational Prostate Symptom Score,quality of life,or maximum flow ***,morcellation,and total surgical time weresignificantly shorter in group *** 1 month,overall incontinence rate was 6.3%in group 1 versus 5.3%in group 2(P=0.12),and urge incontinence was significantly higher in group 1(55.1%vs 37.3%in group 2,Pgroup 1 versus 2.3%in group 2(P=0.06),and SUI was significantly higher in group 2(55.6%vs 24.1%in group 1,P=0.002).At multivariable analysis,PV and IPSS were factors significantly associated with higher odds of transient SUI/***,surgical time,and no early apical release technique were factors associated with higher odds of persistent SUI/MUI.

The plastic flow behavior of bcc transition metals up to moderate temperatures is dominated by the thermally activated glide of screw dislocations,which in turn is determined by the atomic-scale screw dislocation core structure and the associated kink-pair nucleation mechanism for *** complex plasticity phenomena requires the simulation of many atoms and interacting dislocations and *** sizes are beyond the scope of first-principles methods and thus require empirical interatomic *** for the technological important case of bcc Fe,existing empirical interatomic potentials yield spurious ***,the structure and motion of the screw dislocations in Fe are studied using a new gaussian Approximation Potential(gAP)for bcc Fe,which has been shown to reproduce the potential energy surface predicted by density-functional theory(DFT)and many associated *** Fe gAP predicts a compact,non-degenerate core structure,a single-hump Peierls potential,and glide on{110},consistent with DFT *** thermally activated motion at finite temperatures occurs by the expected kink-pair nucleation and propagation *** stress-dependent enthalpy barrier for screw motion,computed using the nudgedelastic-band method,follows closely a form predicted by standard theories with a zero-stress barrier of~1 eV,close to the experimental value of 0.84 eV,and a Peierls stress of~2 gPa consistent with DFT predictions of the Peierls potential.

Systemic therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma:Current status and future perspectives

The management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has substantially changed in the past few decades, the introduction of novel therapies (such as sorafenib) have improved patient survival. Nevertheless, HCC remains the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Decision-making largely relies on evidence-based criteria, as showed in the US and European clinical practice guidelines, which endorse five therapeutic recommendations:resection; transplantation; radiofrequency ablation; chemoembolization; and sorafenib. Many molecularly targeted agents that inhibit angiogenesis, epidermal growth factor receptor, and mammalian target of rapamycin are at different stages of clinical development in advanced HCC. Future research should continue to unravel the mechanism of hepatocarcinogenesis and to identify key relevant molecular targets for therapeutic intervention. Identification and validation of potential surrogate and predictive biomarkers hold promise to individualize patient’s treatment to maximize clinical benefit and minimize the toxicity and cost of targeted agents.

Efficient gW calculations in two dimensional materials through a stochastic integration of the screened potential

Many-body perturbation theory methods,such as the g0W0 approximation,are able to accurately predict quasiparticle(QP)properties of several classes of ***,the calculation of the QP band structure of two-dimensional(2D)semiconductors is known to require a very dense BZ sampling,due to the sharp q-dependence of the dielectric matrix in the long-wavelength limit(q→0).In this work,we show how the convergence of the QP corrections of 2D semiconductors with respect to the BZ sampling can be drastically improved,by combining a Monte Carlo integration with an interpolation scheme able to represent the screened potential between the calculated grid *** method has been validated by computing the band gap of three different prototype monolayer materials:a transition metal dichalcogenide(MoS2),a wide band gap insulator(hBN)and an anisotropic semiconductor(phosphorene).The proposed scheme shows that the convergence of the gap for these three materials up to 50meV is achieved by using k-point grids comparable to those needed by DFT calculations,while keeping the grid uniform.

A geologically-based approach to map arsenic risk in crystalline aquifers:Analysis of the Tampere region, Finland

The study illustrates the critical role of accurate geological structural mapping to delineate crystalline aquifer zones more prone to high health risk due to elevated dissolved As in drinking *** analysis revisits the results from more than 1200 groundwater samples collected over ten years from domestic wells across the Tampere region (Finland).It is demonstrated that the highest dissolved As concentrations in the region (up to 2230 mg/L) are exclusively found near major faults and deformation zones (FDZs) detected via geophysical and geological surveys,and that a clear correlation exists between dissolved concentrations and the distance from the FDZs (r).Almost all values exceeding the drinking water limit (10 mg/L) occur at r g/L occur at r g different mechanisms,which include enhanced sulfide oxidation and fracture connectivity,promoting preferential transport of dissolved As to FDZs and mixing of waters from different redox zones,mobilizing preferentially As(III) or As(V).Fe hydro-oxides may also precipitate/ dissolve preferentially because of FDZs,while residence time may influence the contact time between water and As-bearing *** is concluded that the accurate mapping of FDZs,and in general of structural geology,provides an important preliminary information to identify where localized,sitespecific characterization of hydrogeology and geochemistry is more urgent to reduce As-related health risk from groundwater intake.

Kitchen waste valorization through a mildtemperature pretreatment to enhance biogas production and fermentability:Kinetics study in mesophilic and thermophilic regimen

Biowaste valorization through anaerobic digestion is an attractive option to achieve both climate protection goals and renewable energy *** this paper,a complete set of batch trials was carried out on kitchen waste to investigate the effects of mild thermal pretreatment,temperature regimen and substrate/inoculum *** pretreatment was effective in the solubilisation of macromolecular fractions,particularly *** ability of the theoretical methodologies in estimating hydrogen and methane yields of complex substrates was evaluated by comparing the experimental results with the theoretical *** the single batch configuration,a significant initial hydrogen production was observed,prior to methane *** pretreatment effect was the gain in hydrogen production;the extent was highly variable according to the other parameters *** hydrogen yields,up to 113 mL H2/g VSfed,were related to the prompt transformation of soluble *** regimen resulted,as expected,in faster digestions(up to 78 mL CH4/gVS/day) and sorted out pH *** relatively low methane yields(342-398 mL CH4/g VSfed) were the result of the consistent lignocellulosic content and low lipid *** pretreatment proved to be a promising option for the enhancement of hydrogen production in food waste dark fermentation.
