Production and Sensory evaluation of Novel Cheeses Made with Prebiotic Substances:Inulin and Oligofructose

In recent years, the processing and consumption of functional foods worldwide have greatly increased. These foods benefit the body functions which improve consumers’ health and also reduce the risk factors that cause the onset of disease. Furthermore, prebiotic substances favor the multiplication of beneficial intestinal bacteria rather than harmful ones. The purpose of this study was to conduct the sensory evaluation of two functional cheeses containing inulin and oligofructose as a distinctive ingredient, including testing a cheese made with conventional ingredients, called control cheese. Affective type tests, which measured the degree of liking or disliking, were conducted using a verbal 7-point hedonic scale. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 57 untrained judges were selected. This study is a quantitative, analytic and experimental-cross design. Statistical analysis of the data was performed by ANOVA with repeated measures. The results show a similar average degree of liking for the three cheeses, above 5 on the scale or “like”. By analyzing the critical level and the result of the Mauchly’s sphericity test, it is concluded that there is no statistically significant difference in the degree of liking for the three cheeses. Therefore, the addition of prebiotics to artisanal cheeses achieves to satisfy consumers and provide them benefits superior to those provided by traditional foods.

Comprehensive studies identify motor neuron spectrum disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)as globally rising fatal disorders with the highest prevalence in aging populations,influenced by ethnicity and ancestry(GBD 2016 Motor Neuron Disease Colla borators,2018).While~10% of diagnoses involve a family history(fALS),most cases are considered sporadic(sALS).However,population-based studies suggest that even cases without a common index mutation impart heritability(Ryan et al.,2019),indicating a crucial role of rare and as yet unknown genetic denominators.

Several authors have commented on the anatomical changes following radical prostatectomy(RP)for prostate cancer and their characteristic radiological appearances.1,2 Most of these relate to periurethral fibrosis and its clinical significance in patients with postprostatectomy sphincter weakness incontinence.3,4 On magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),this postsurgical fibrosis appears as a focus of low-signal intensity in the periurethral tissues at and around the level of the vesicourethral anastomosis(VUA)which is appreciable on both T1-and T2-weighted images.

Syringoceles of Cowper’s ducts and glands in adult men

Cowper’s syringoceles are uncommon,usually described in children and most commonly limited to the *** describe more complex variants in an adult population affecting with varying degrees of severity,the glands themselves,and the complications they may lead *** hundred consecutive urethrograms of patients with unreconstructed strictures were ***-six patients(mean age:41.1 years)with Cowper’s syringoceles who were managed between 2009 and 2016 were subsequently ***,radiological appearance,treatment(when indicated),and outcomes were *** 100 urethrograms in patients with strictures,33.0%demonstrated filling of Cowper’s ducts or glands,occurring predominantly in patients with bulbar *** 1 of 26 patients with non-bulbar strictures had a visible duct/*** 26 symptomatic patients,15 presented with poor *** four patients,a grossly dilated Cowper’s duct obstructed the *** the remaining 11 patients,a bulbar stricture caused the symptoms and the syringocele was identified *** patients presented with perineal *** six of them,fluoroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)revealed complex multicystic lesions within the bulbourethral *** patients developed perineoscrotal *** the 11 patients with strictures,the syringocele was no longer visible after *** three of four patients with urethral obstruction secondary to a dilated Cowper’s duct,this resolved after transperineal excision(n=2)and endoscopic deroofing(n=1).Five of six patients with complex syringoceles involving Cowper’s glands were excised surgically with symptomatic relief in *** conclusion,Cowper’s syringocele in adults is more common than previously thought and may cause lower urinary tract symptoms or be associated with serious complications which usually require surgical treatment.

The potential of natural products for targeting PPARα

Peroxisome proliferator activated receptors(PPARs) α,-γ and-β/δ are ligand-activated transcription factors and members of the superfamily of nuclear hormone receptor. These receptors play key roles in maintaining glucose and lipid homeostasis by modulating gene expression. PPARs constitute a recognized druggable target and indeed several classes of drugs used in the treatment of metabolic disease symptoms, such as dyslipidemia(fibrates, e.g. fenofibrate and gemfibrozil) and diabetes(thiazolidinediones, e.g. rosiglitazone and pioglitazone) are ligands for the various PPAR isoforms. More precisely, antidiabetic thiazolidinediones act on PPARγ, while PPARα is the main molecular target of antidyslipidemic fibrates. Over the past few years, our understanding of the mechanism underlying the PPAR modulation of gene expression has greatly increased. This review presents a survey on terrestrial and marine natural products modulating the PPARα system with the objective of highlighting how the incredible chemodiversity of natural products can provide innovative leads for this "hot" target.

Single-stage tubular urethral reconstruction using oral grafts is an alternative to classical staged approach for selected penile urethral strictures

Penile urethral strictures have been managed by a staged surgical *** selected cases,spongiofibrosis can be excised,a neo-urethral plate created using buccal mucosa graft(BMG)and tubularized during the same procedure,performing a“twoin-one”stage *** aim to identify stricture factors which indicate suitability for this two-in-one stage *** assess surgical outcome and compare with staged *** conducted an observational descriptive *** data were prospectively collected from two-in-one stage and staged penile urethroplasties using BMG in a single center between 2007 and *** minimum follow-up was 6 *** were assessed clinically,radiologically,and by flow-rate *** was defined as recurrent stricture or any subsequent surgical or endoscopic *** analysis of stricture characteristics and statistical comparison was made between *** 425 penile urethroplasties,139 met the inclusion criteria:59 two-in-one stage and 80 *** mean stricture length was 2.8 cm(single stage)and 4.5 cm(staged).etiology was lichen sclerosus(LS)52.5%(single stage)and 73.8%hypospadias related(staged).40.7%of patients had previous failed urethroplasties in the single-stage group and 81.2%in the *** most common stricture locations were navicular fossa(39.0%)and distal penile urethra(59.3%)in the single-stage group and mid or proximal penile urethra(58.7%)in the staged *** rates were 89.8%(single stage)and 81.3%(staged).A trend toward a single-stage approach for select penile urethral strictures was *** conclude that a single-stage substitution penile urethroplasty using BMG as a“two-in-one”approach is associated with excellent functional *** most suitable strictures for this approach are distal,primary,and LS-related strictures.

Testicular parenchymal abnormalities in Klinefelter syndrome： a question of cancer？ examination of 40 consecutive patients

Klinefelter syndrome （KS） is a hypergonadotropic hypogonadism characterized by a 47, XXY karyotype. The risk of testicular cancer in KS is of interest in relation to theories about testicular cancer etiology generally; nevertheless it seems to be low. We evaluated the need for imaging and serum tumor markers for testicular cancer screening in KS. Participants were 40 consecutive KSpatients, enrolled from December 2009 to January 2013. Lactate dehydrogenase （LDH）, alpha-fetoprotein （AFP）, and beta-human chorionic gonadotrophin subunit （^-HCG） serum levels assays and testicular ultrasound （US） with color Doppler, were carried out at study entry, after 6 months and every year for 3 years. Abdominal magnetic resonance （MR） was performed in KS when testicular US showed micro-calcifications, testicular nodules and cysts. Nearly 62% of the KS had regular testicular echotexture, 37.5% showed an irregular echotexture and 17.5% had micro-calcifications and cysts. eighty seven percent of KS had a regular vascular pattern, 12.5% varicocele, 12.5% nodules 〈1 cm, but none had nodules 〉1 cm. MR ruled out the diagnosis of cancer in all KS with testicular micro calcifications, nodules and cysts. No significant variations in LDH, AFP, and ^-HCG levels and in US pattern have been detected during follow-up. We compared serum tumor markers and US pattern between KS with and without cryptorchidism and no statistical differences were found. We did not find testicular cancer in KS, and testicular US, tumor markers and MR were, in selected cases, useful tools for correctly discriminating benign from malignant lesions.

Measuring Social Solidarity During Crisis:The Role of Design Choices

Building on our previous work,we assess how social solidarity towards migrants and refugees has changed before and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic,by collecting and analyzing a large,novel,and longitudinal dataset of migration-related *** this end,we first annotate above 2000 tweets for(anti-)solidarity expressions towards immigrants,utilizing two annotation approaches(experts ***).On these annotations,we train a BeRT model with multiple data augmentation strategies,which performs close to the human upper *** use this high-quality model to automatically label over 240000 tweets between September 2019 and June *** then assess the automatically labeled data for how statements related to migrant(anti-)solidarity developed over time,before and during the COVID-19 *** findings show that migrant solidarity became increasingly salient and contested during the early stages of the pandemic but declined in importance since late 2020,with tweet numbers falling slightly below pre-pandemic levels in summer *** the same period,the share of anti-solidarity tweets increased in a sub-sample of COVID-19-related *** findings highlight the importance of long-term observation,pre-and post-crisis comparison,and sampling in research interested in crisis related *** one of our main contributions,we outline potential pitfalls of an analysis of social solidarity trends:for example,the ratio of solidarity and anti-solidarity statements depends on the sampling design,i.e.,tweet language,Twitter-user accounts’national identification(country known or unknown)and selection of relevant *** our sample,the share of anti-solidarity tweets is higher in native(German)language tweets and among“anonymous”Twitter users writing in German compared to english-language tweets of users located in Germany.
