Photocrosslinkable polymers have been exploited to attain impressive advantages in printing freestanding,micrometer-scale,mechanically compliant ***,a more integrated understanding of both the polymer photochemistry and the microfabrication processes could enable new strategic design avenues,unlocking far-reaching applications of the light-based modality of additive *** promising approach for achieving high-aspect-ratio structures is to leverage the phenomenon of light self-trapping during the photopolymerization *** this review,we discuss the design of materials that facilitate this optical behavior,the computational modeling and practical processing considerations to achieve high aspect-ratio structures,and the range of applications that can benefit from architectures fabricated using light self-trapping-especially those demanding free-standing structures and materials of stiffnesses relevant in biological *** interactions exist among material attributes,including polymer composition,and processing parameters such as light *** identify strong opportunities for predictive design of both the material and the ***,this perspective describes the wide range of existing polymers and additive manufacturing approaches,and highlights various future directions to enable constructs with new complexities and functionalities through the development of next-generation photocrosslinkable materials and micromanufacturing methods.

Plants accumulate a vast array of secondary metabolites,which constitute a natural resource for *** corymbosa belongs to the Rubiaceae family,and has been used in traditional medicine to treat different diseases,including ***,the active metabolites of the plant,their biosynthetic pathway and mode of action in cancer are *** fill these gaps,we exposed this plant to eight different stress conditions and combined different omics data capturing gene expression,metabolic profiles,and anti-cancer *** results show that *** extracts are active against breast cancer cell lines and that ursolic acid is responsible for this ***,we assembled a high-quality genome and uncovered two genes involved in the biosynthesis of ursolic ***,we also revealed that ursolic acid causes mitotic catastrophe in cancer cells and identified three high-confidence protein binding targets by Cellular Thermal Shift Assay(CETSA)and reverse ***,these results constitute a valuable resource to further characterize the biosynthesis of active metabolites in the Oldenlandia group,while the mode of action of ursolic acid will allow us to further develop this valuable compound.

Potential for Increasing Soil Nutrient Availability via Soil Organic Matter Improvement Using Pseudo Panel Data

Fixed and random effect models were applied to a pseudo-panel data built of soil analysis reports from tobacco farms to analyze relationships between soil characteristics like soil organic matter (SOM) and soil nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (k) and to explore the potential for improving nutrients availability by increasing SOM content. These econometric models may account for unobserved specific characteristics such as location-specific characteristics, management strategies, farmers’ skills and preferences and environmental heterogeneity. Positive relationships were found between N, P and k availability and SOM. The random effect model reports a highly significant elasticity of N with respect to SOM of 0.75, meaning that an increase of 1% of SOM will increase soil N by 0.75%. Using this elasticity, the required SOM improvement of green manure was calculated at which costs of green manure would exactly equal benefits in terms of reduced N fertilizer use. Costs and benefits are equal if the SOM increases from 1.55% to 3.61%, which is barely achieved according to the literature. Hence, growing green manure crops to increase SOM and thereby N availability is not economically attractive. However, additional benefits may arise from SOM improvement and growing green manure crops.

Data from a prospective, randomized, open-label, active-controlled, multicenter, Phase 4 study comparing oral or intravenous linezolid with intravenous vancomycin for treatment of complicated skin and soft-tissue infections caused by methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus was used to determine the association between staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) type and patient’s clinical presentation, infection severity, intravenous therapy duration and length of stay (LOS). Compared to SCCmec types I, II, and III, SCCmec type IV, PVL+ was associated with more frequent presentation of abscesses, lower severity scores, and shorter intravenous therapy duration and LOS in both treatment groups.

Locally Advanced Colon Cancer with Abdominal Wall Abscess: A Challenging Case Treated by an Innovative Approach

Colon cancer rarely combines with abscess of the abdominal wall. We here describe a case treated by extensive surgery, biological mesh abdominal wall repair and negative pressure therapy. A 58-year-old woman presented with a locally advanced right colon cancer with abdominal wall abscess and no evidence of distant metastasis. Extended right hemicolectomy was performed with en-bloc excision of the bladder dome, the right annex and full thickness removal of the anterior abdominal wall including the abscess. Abdominal wall repair was perfomed by a biological mesh (PermacolTMBiologic Implant) and to facilitate healing the patient was then treated with vacuum-Assisted Closure (V.A.C.?) Therapy. Histology showed a mucinous moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma without nodal metastases (n = 57). Surgical margins including the abdominal wall was tumor free. The postoperative clinical course was uneventful. va.C.? Therapy treatment reported excellent results in terms of active promotion of the granulation tissue, this allowing for a subsequent placement of a skin graft. Patient is alive and disease-free one year after surgery. The present case shows some peculiar characteristics such as the size of the initial lesion, the abdominal wall abscess and the use of innovative devices such as biological mesh and V.A.C.? Therapy. We demonstrate that extensive surgery for locally advanced colon cancer, in high-volume centers, provides favorable results in terms of survival and quality of life.

Background： Beef cattle breeding programs in Brazil have placed greater emphasis on the genomic study of reproductive traits of males and females due to their economic importance. In this study, genome-wide associations were assessed for scrotal circumference at 210 d of age, scrotal circumference at 420 d of age, age at first calving, and age at second calving, in Canchim beef cattle. Data quality control was conducted resulting in 672,778 SNPs and 392 ***： Associated SNPs were observed for scrotal circumference at 420 d of age（435 SNPs）, followed by scrotal circumference at 210 d of age（12 SNPs）, age at first calving（six SNPs）, and age at second calving（four SNPs）. We investigated whether significant SNPs were within genic or surrounding regions. Biological processes of genes were associated with immune system, multicellular organismal process, response to stimulus, apoptotic process, cellular component organization or biogenesis, biological adhesion, and ***： Few associations were observed for scrotal circumference at 210 d of age, age at first calving, and age at second calving, reinforcing their polygenic inheritance and the complexity of understanding the genetic architecture of reproductive traits. Finding many associations for scrotal circumference at 420 d of age in various regions of the Canchim genome also reveals the difficulty of targeting specific candidate genes that could act on fertility; nonetheless,the high linkage disequilibrium between loci herein estimated could aid to overcome this issue. Therefore, al relevant information about genomic regions influencing reproductive traits may contribute to target candidate genes for further investigation of causal mutations and aid in future genomic studies in Canchim cattle to improve the breeding program.

Surgical outcomes of pulmonary resection for lung cancer after neo-adjuvant treatment

AIM: To evaluate the outcomes of surgery for lung cancer after induction ***: Using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program(ACSNSQIP) database(2005-2012), we identified 4063 patients who underwent a pulmonary resection for lung cancer. Two hundred and thirty-six(5.8%) received neo-adjuvant therapy prior to surgery(64 chemo-radiation, 103 radiation alone, 69 chemotherapy alone). The outcomes were compared to 3827 patients(94.2%) treated with surgery alone. Primary outcome was 30-d mortality, and secondary outcomes included length of stay, operative time and NSQIP measured postoperative ***: Lung cancer patients who received preoperative treatment were younger(66 vs 69, P kely to have experienced recent weight loss(6.8% vs 3.5%; P = 0.011), to be active smokers(48.3 vs 34.9, P vant patients had significantly higher 30-d mortality, overall and serious morbidity(all P vant therapy for lung cancer have worse early surgical outcomes. Although NSQIP does not provide stage information, this analysis shows important findings that should be considered when selecting patients for induction treatment.
