Understanding the function and dysfunction of the immune system in lung cancer: the role of immune checkpoints

Survival rates for metastatic lung cancer, including non-small cell lung cancer （NSCLC） and small cell lung cancer （SCLC）, are poor with S-year survivals of less than 5%. The immune system has an intricate and complex relationship with tumorigenesis; a groundswell of research on the immune system is leading to greater understanding of how cancer progresses and presenting new ways to halt disease progress. Due to the extraordinary power of the immune system-- with its capacity for memory, exquisite specificity and central and universal role in human biology--immunotherapy has the potential to achieve complete, long-lasting remissions and cures, with few side effects for any cancer patient, regardless of cancer type. As a result, a range of cancer therapies are under development that work by turning our own immune cells against tumors. However deeper understanding of the complexity of immunomodulation by tumors is key to the development of effective immunotherapies, especially in lung cancer.

Comprehensive studies identify motor neuron spectrum disorders including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)as globally rising fatal disorders with the highest prevalence in aging populations,influenced by ethnicity and ancestry(GBD 2016 Motor Neuron Disease Colla borators,2018).While~10% of diagnoses involve a family history(fALS),most cases are considered sporadic(sALS).However,population-based studies suggest that even cases without a common index mutation impart heritability(Ryan et al.,2019),indicating a crucial role of rare and as yet unknown genetic denominators.

Instead of the traditional linear model of taking,making,and disposing,the circular bio-economy promotes a regenerative *** there is potential to create valuable products like betulin,lupeol,and suberinic acids(SA)from outer birch bark,many industries,such as plywood and pulp,often choose to incinerate substan-tial amounts of leftover birch bark to meet their energy *** highlights the importance of obtaining valu-able products from *** objective of this study was to examine various fractions of SA and assess their potential for wood *** fractions included SA potassium salts in ethanol(SAK-EtOH)and water(SAK-H2O),SA suspension in water(SAS-H2O)and dried SA,which was subsequently diluted in ethanol(DSA-EtOH).There is signiﬁcant potential for utilizing SA in wood treatment formulations as a sustainable alternative to harmful petroleum-derived *** approach not only addresses environmental concerns but also enhances the functionality of wood in construction applications,such as improving impregnation for moisture and fungal *** the solutions tested,the ethanol solution of SA,speciﬁcally DSA-EtOH,showed the highest weight percent gain(WPG)and the greatest leaching *** analysis showed that SA salts in ethanol(SAK-EtOH)and water(SAK-H2O)predominantly consist of low molecular fractions and each process(acidiﬁcation and drying)reduces the low molecular content in the *** suggests that SA polymerizes after drying,making it necessary to dissolve it in ethanol to meet the requirements for *** opti-mization,including adjustments in the concentration of the SA ethanol solution and the curing temperature,is essential to identify the optimal conditions for more in-depth impregnation studies.

Twitter Users' Privacy Concerns: What do Their Accounts' First Names Tell Us?

Purpose： In this paper, we describe how gender recognition on Twitter can be used as an intelligent business tool to determine the privacy concerns among users, and ultimately offer a more personalized service for customers who are more likely to respond positively to targeted advertisements. Design/methodology/approach： We worked with two different data sets to examine whether Twitter users＇ gender, inferred from the first name of the account and the profile description, correlates with the privacy setting of the account. We also used a set of features including the inferred gender of Twitter users to develop classifiers that predict user privacy settings. Findings： We found that the inferred gender of Twitter users correlates with the account＇s privacy setting. Specifically, females tend to be more privacy concerned than males. Users whose gender cannot be inferred from their provided first names tend to be more privacy concerned. In addition, our classification performance suggests that inferred gender can be used as an indicator of the user＇s privacy preference. Research limitations： It is known that not all twitter accounts are real user accounts, and social bots tweet as well. A maj or limitation of our study is the lack of consideration of social bots in the data. In our study, this implies that at least some percentage of the undefined accounts, that is, accounts that had names non-existent in the name dictionary, are social bots. It will be interesting to explore the privacy setting of social bots in the Twitter space. Practical implications： Companies are investing large amounts of money in business intelligence tools that allow them to know the preferences of their consumers. Due to the large number of consumers around the world, it is very difficult for companies to have direct communication with each customer to anticipate market changes. The valorization of Amazonian wood residues into active chemical compounds could be an eco-friendly,cost-effective and valuable way to develop wood preservative formulations to enhance the decay and termite resistance of low-durable wood ***(Vouacapoua americana.,Fabaceae)is a well-known Guianese wood spe-cies commonly used in local wood construction due to its outstanding natural durability,which results from the presence of a large panel of extractives *** addition,its industrial processing generates large amounts of *** residues were extracted by maceration using four different solvents(water/ethanol,ethyl acetate,hexane and dichloromethane/methanol),separately and *** yield of each extractive fraction was determined,and their chemical compositions were analyzed by Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry(LC-MS).Ethyl acetate led to the highest extraction yield,and the active compounds were identiﬁed in the obtained extractive *** this sense,the fungicidal and termite-repellent properties of these extractives were then tested using a screening laboratory(with temperate and tropical microorganisms),according to the solution concentration(1%,2.5%,5%,8%and 10%).Finally,Virola michelii Heckel wood samples(low durable species)were impregnated with the 8%concentration *** impregnated wood samples were then exposed to a soil bed *** results highlighted that the nature of the solvent used during wood maceration affects the con-tent of the obtained extractive ***-Performance Liquid Chromatography–High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry(UHPLC-HRMS)analyses showed the inﬂuence of extraction parameters on the nature of the extracted *** extracts(from ethyl acetate maceration)showed good anti-fungal and anti-termite ***,the concentration in extractives had an impact on the anti-termite activity level for Reti-culitermesﬂavipes and Cryptotermes *** based on W
