Liver transplantation remains the only curative therapy for end-stage liver disease and there is a well-established shortage of transplantable deceased donor organs to meet the growing demand of waitlisted *** liver grafts represent the most common type of so-called extended criteria donor(ECD)grafts aimed at ameliorating this ***,steatotic grafts are associated with increased post-transplant complications and graft failure(1).Hepatic graft steatosis is strongly correlated with the high prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAfLD)and metabolic(dysfunction)associated fatty liver disease(MAfLD)in the general *** and MAfLD are related,but not equivalent,liver disorders that are linked with obesity and diabetes(2).Global prevalence of NAfLD is estimated at~25%and rising(3).Models predict that NAfLD prevalence will increase by 21%to affect 100.9 million persons worldwide by 2030(4).As more donors have NAfLD,the steatotic liver graft will continue to be a challenge for liver ***,promising efforts(e.g.,organ pump with defatting agents)are under way,aimed at expanding the donor pool in the coming ***,we briefly summarize approaches for assessment of hepatic steatosis,describe recipient outcomes associated with the use of steatotic liver grafts,and highlight strategies that may be used to mitigate risk considering the ongoing NAfLD/MAfLD epidemic.

The efficiency of traditional Chinese medicine theory and acupoints shows once more its accurate regulatory capacity by improving women biological cycles with the use of electroacupuncture(EA).Results presented in a research study that preformed ovulation induction in women with anovulation due to polycystic ovary syndrome(pCOS),successfully provided data supporting acupuncture as a natural treatment for infertile women,with no significant side *** purpose of this study is to demonstrate how EA treatment can induce ovulation related to the hormonal and neuronal system in women affected by *** study introduces proof of effectivity and improvement based on the research of the University of Gothenburg,Sweden,that presents a study on how EA can be an alternative to ovulation-inducing drugs,to be considered as a possible holistic regulator of pCOS and *** study covered 24 women with pCOS and oligo-/amenorrhea who received EA in a low frequency of 2 Hz with a total of 14 treatments applied for 3 *** were taken three times during the study to see fluctuations in hormonal,ovulatory,and symptomatic behavior of *** demonstrated effective regular ovulatory inductions in more than a third of women.

Background:The evaporative fraction(Ef)represents an important biophysical parameter reflecting the distribution of surface available *** this study,we investigated the daily and seasonal patterns of Ef in a multi-year corn cultivation located in southern Italy and evaluated the performance of five machine learning(ML)classes of algorithms:the linear regression(LR),regression tree(RT),support vector machine(SVM),ensembles of tree(ETs)and Gaussian process regression(GpR)to predict the Ef at daily time *** adopted methodology consisted of three main steps that include:(i)selection of the Ef predictors;(ii)comparison of the different classes of ML;(iii)application,cross-validation of the selected ML algorithms and comparison with the observed ***:Our results indicate that SVM and GpR were the best classes of ML at predicting the Ef,with a total of four different algorithms:cubic SVM,medium Gaussian SVM,the Matern 5/2 GpR,and the rational quadratic *** com-parison between observed and predicted Ef in all four algorithms,during the training phase,were within the 95%confidence interval:the R^(2)value between observed and predicted Ef was 0.76(RMSE 0.05)for the medium Gaussian SVM,0.99(RMSE 0.01)for the rational quadratic GpR,0.94(RMSE 0.02)for the Matern 5/2 GpR,and 0.83(RMSE 0.05)for the cubic SVM *** results were obtained during the testing *** results of the cross-validation analysis indicate that the R^(2)values obtained between all iterations for each of the four adopted ML algorithms were basically constant,confirming the ability of ML as a tool to predict ***:ML algorithms represent a valid alternative able to predict the Ef especially when remote sensing data are not available,or the sky conditions are not *** application to different geographical areas,or crops,requires further development of the model based on different data sources of soils,climate,and cropping systems.

Urban barriers are often a consequence of the unplanned expansion of transport infrastructures,housing growth nearby existing transport infrastructures,and the vehicular traffic *** process,also known as“community severance”,is a problem that affects the travel patterns of the population and causes negative impacts to adjacent communities,but it is not easy to *** an alternative to the costly technologies and restricted-access data sometimes used to analyze urban barriers,we propose an analytical approach that assesses community severance levels by classifying the quality of pedestrian Crossings on Urban Streets(the peCUS index).Additionally,the approach is used to identify possible inequities nearby the different classification groups regarding demographic *** used the chi-square(χ^(2))test of independence and the standardized pearson residuals to indicate deficits and excesses of residents regarding the demographic characteristics studied surrounding the urban *** found the following evidences of associations:residents with low-income or those aged up to 19 tend to live close to the worst crossings,whereas residents with permanent mobility constraints or the elderly tend to live near the crossings with the best ***,the study shows that the assessment of community severance by the analysis of the peCUS index is ***,it reveals that the distribution of residents surrounding the distinct classes of quality of crossings is equitable for vulnerable social groups,except for low-income or young residents.

Klinefelter syndrome （KS） is a hypergonadotropic hypogonadism characterized by a 47, XXY karyotype. The risk of testicular cancer in KS is of interest in relation to theories about testicular cancer etiology generally; nevertheless it seems to be low. We evaluated the need for imaging and serum tumor markers for testicular cancer screening in KS. participants were 40 consecutive KSpatients, enrolled from December 2009 to January 2013. Lactate dehydrogenase （LDH）, alpha-fetoprotein （Afp）, and beta-human chorionic gonadotrophin subunit （^-HCG） serum levels assays and testicular ultrasound （US） with color Doppler, were carried out at study entry, after 6 months and every year for 3 years. Abdominal magnetic resonance （MR） was performed in KS when testicular US showed micro-calcifications, testicular nodules and cysts. Nearly 62% of the KS had regular testicular echotexture, 37.5% showed an irregular echotexture and 17.5% had micro-calcifications and cysts. Eighty seven percent of KS had a regular vascular pattern, 12.5% varicocele, 12.5% nodules 〈1 cm, but none had nodules 〉1 cm. MR ruled out the diagnosis of cancer in all KS with testicular micro calcifications, nodules and cysts. No significant variations in LDH, Afp, and ^-HCG levels and in US pattern have been detected during follow-up. We compared serum tumor markers and US pattern between KS with and without cryptorchidism and no statistical differences were found. We did not find testicular cancer in KS, and testicular US, tumor markers and MR were, in selected cases, useful tools for correctly discriminating benign from malignant lesions.

Measuring Social Solidarity During Crisis:The Role of Design Choices

Building on our previous work,we assess how social solidarity towards migrants and refugees has changed before and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic,by collecting and analyzing a large,novel,and longitudinal dataset of migration-related *** this end,we first annotate above 2000 tweets for(anti-)solidarity expressions towards immigrants,utilizing two annotation approaches(experts ***).On these annotations,we train a BERT model with multiple data augmentation strategies,which performs close to the human upper *** use this high-quality model to automatically label over 240000 tweets between September 2019 and June *** then assess the automatically labeled data for how statements related to migrant(anti-)solidarity developed over time,before and during the COVID-19 *** findings show that migrant solidarity became increasingly salient and contested during the early stages of the pandemic but declined in importance since late 2020,with tweet numbers falling slightly below pre-pandemic levels in summer *** the same period,the share of anti-solidarity tweets increased in a sub-sample of COVID-19-related *** findings highlight the importance of long-term observation,pre-and post-crisis comparison,and sampling in research interested in crisis related *** one of our main contributions,we outline potential pitfalls of an analysis of social solidarity trends:for example,the ratio of solidarity and anti-solidarity statements depends on the sampling design,i.e.,tweet language,Twitter-user accounts’national identification(country known or unknown)and selection of relevant *** our sample,the share of anti-solidarity tweets is higher in native(German)language tweets and among“anonymous”Twitter users writing in German compared to English-language tweets of users located in Germany.

This paper develops and analyzes multigrid semismooth Newton methods for a class of inequality-constrained optimization problems in function space which are motivated by and include linear elastic contact problems of Signorini type. We show that after a suitable Moreau-Yosida type regularization of the problem superlinear local convergence is obtained for a class of semismooth Newton methods. In addition, estimates for the order of tile error introduced by the regularization are derived. The main part of the paper is devoted to the analysis of a multilevel preconditioner for the semismooth Newton system. We prove a rigorous bound for the contraction rate of the multigrid cycle which is robust with respect to sufficiently small regularization parameters and the number of grid levels. Moreover, it applies to adaptively refined grids. The paper concludes with numerical results.
