Species profile and reactivity of volatile organic compounds emission in solvent uses,industry activities and from vehicular tunnels

A survey was conducted of the volatile organic compounds(VOCs)released from sources of solvent use,industry activities and vehicle emissions in Guiyang,a capital city of *** were collected by canisters and analyzed by *** species profiles of VOCs emitted from sources were *** showed that xylenes,ethylbenzene,acetone and dichloromethane were the characteristics species for painting,2-propanol and ethyl acetate for printing,α-pinene for solid wood furniture manufacturing,and 2-butanone for biscuit *** characteristics species could be as tracers for the sources *** most of samples from the solvent use,the benzene/toluene(B/T)ratio was less than 0.3,indicating that the ratio could be as the indicator for tracing the solvent use related *** results also suggested that the toluene/xylene(T/X)ratio be as the indicator to distinguish the VOCs sources of painting(2).Aromatics contributed the most to ozone formation potential(OFP)of most painting and non-paper printing sources,and oxygen-containing VOCs(OVOCs)were major species contributing to OFP of the sources from food production and paper *** OFP of the VOCs emissions from vehicle in tunnels and from other manufactures were dominated by both aromatics and ***α-pinene could explain 56.94%and 32.54%of total OFP of the VOCs sources from filing cabinet and solid wood furniture manufacturing,which was rarely been involved in previous studies of VOCs source profiles,indicating that the species of concern for VOCs sources are still insufficient at present.

The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection(GRAND)is a proposed large-scale observatory designed to detect cosmic rays,gamma-rays,and neutrinos with energies exceeding 100 Pe *** GRANDProto300 experiment is proposed as the early stage of the GRAND project,consisting of a hybrid array of radio antennas and scintillator *** latter,as a mature and traditional detector,is used to cross-check the nature of the candidate events selected from radio *** this study,we developed a simulation software called G4GRANDProto300,based on the Geant4 software package,to optimize the spacing of the scintillator detector array and to investigate its effective *** analysis was conducted at various zenith angles under different detector spacings,including 300,500,600,700,and 900 *** results indicate that,for large zenith angles used to search for cosmic-ray in the GRAND project,the optimized effective area is with a detector spacing of 500 *** G4GRANDProto300 software that we developed could be used to further optimize the layout of the particle detector array in future work.

Gradient-induced long-range optical pulling force based on photonic band gap

Optical pulling provides a new degree of freedom in optical *** is generally believed that long-range optical pulling forces cannot be generated by the gradient of the incident ***,we theoretically propose and numerically demonstrate the realization of a long-range optical pulling force stemming from a self-induced gradient field in the manipulated *** analogy to potential barriers in quantum tunnelling,we use a photonic band gap design in order to obtain the intensity gradients inside a manipulated object placed in a photonic crystal waveguide,thereby achieving a pulling *** the usual scattering-type optical pulling forces,the proposed gradient-field approach does not require precise elimination of the reflection from the manipulated *** particular,the Einstein-Laub formalism is applied to design this unconventional gradient *** magnitude of the force can be enhanced by a factor of up to 50 at the optical resonance of the manipulated object in the waveguide,making it insensitive to *** developed approach helps to break the limitation of scattering forces to obtain longrange optical pulling for manipulation and sorting of nanoparticles and other *** developed principle of using the band gap to obtain a pulling force may also be applied to other types of waves,such as acoustic or water waves,which are important for numerous applications.

Swelling behaviors of heterogeneous red-bed mudstone subjected to different vertical stresses

In this study,the axial swelling strain of red-bed mudstone under different vertical stresses are measured by swell-under-load method,and the microstructure of mudstone after hygroscopic swelling is studied by mercury intrusion porosimetry(MIP).The weakening coefficient and Weibull distribution function are introduced into the coupling model of mudstone moisture diffusion-swelling deformation-fracture based on finite-discrete element method(FDEM).The weakening effect of moisture on mudstone's mechanical parameters,as well as the heterogeneity of swelling deformation and stress distribution,is *** microcrack behavior and energy evolution of mudstone during hygroscopic swelling deformation under different vertical stresses are *** results show that the axial swelling strain of mudstone decreases with increase of the vertical *** low vertical stresses,moisture absorption in mudstone leads to formation of cracks caused by hydration-induced *** high vertical stresses,a muddy sealing zone forms on the mudstone surface,preventing further water *** simulation results of mudstone swelling deformation also demonstrate that it involves both swelling of the mudstone matrix and swelling caused by crack ***,crack expansion plays a dominant role in mudstone *** increasing vertical stress,the cracks in mudstone change from tensile cracks to shear cracks,resulting in a significant reduction in the total number of *** the evolution of mudstone kinetic energy shows similarities under different vertical stresses,the evolution of strain energy varies significantly due to the presence of different types of cracks in the *** findings provide a theoretical basis for understanding the hygroscopic swelling deformation mechanism of red-bed mudstone at various depths.

Relative orbit determination algorithm of space targets with passive observation

Angles-only relative orbit determination for space non-cooperative targets based on passive sensor is subject to weakly observable problem of the relative state between two spacecraft. Previously, the evidence for angles-only observability was found by using cylindrical dynamics, however, the solution of orbit determination is still not provided. This study develops a relative orbit determination algorithm with the cylindrical dynamics based on differential evolution. Firstly, the relative motion dynamics and line-of-sight measurement model for nearcircular orbit are established in cylindrical coordinate ***, the observability is qualitatively analyzed by using the dynamics and measurement model where the unobservable geometry is found. Then, the angles-only relative orbit determination problem is modeled into an optimal searching frame and an improved differential evolution algorithm is introduced to solve the problem. Finally, the proposed algorithm is verified and tested by a set of numerical simulations in the context of highEarth and low-Earth cases. The results show that initial relative orbit determination(IROD) solution with an appropriate accuracy in a relative short span is achieved, which can be used to initialize the navigation filter.

Crosslinked solubilizer enables nitrate-enriched carbonate polymer electrolytes for stable,high-voltage lithium metal batteries

High-voltage lithium metal batteries(LMBs)have been considered promising next-generation highenergy-density ***,commercial carbonate electrolytes can scarcely be employed in LMBs owing to their poor compatibility with metallic lithium.N,N-dimethylacrylamide(DMAA)-a crosslinkable solubilizer with a high Gutmann donor number-is employed to facilitate the dissolution of insoluble lithium nitrate(LiNO3)in carbonate-based electrolytes and to form gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs)through in situ *** Lit solvation structure of the GPEs is regulated using LiNO3 and DMAA,which suppresses the decomposition of LiPFe and facilitates the formation of an inorganic-rich solid electrolyte ***,the Coulombic efficiency(CE)of the LillCu cell assembled with a GPE increases to 98.5%at room temperature,and the high-voltage LillNCM622 cell achieves a capacity retention of 80.1%with a high CE of 99.5%after 400 *** bifunctional polymer electrolytes are anticipated to pave the way for next-generation high-voltage LMBs.

Failure transition of shear-to-dilation band of rock salt under triaxial stresses

Great potential of underground gas/energy storage in salt caverns seems to be a promising solution to support renewable *** the underground storage method,the operating cycle unfortunately may reach up to daily or even hourly,which generates complicated pressures on the salt ***,the mechanical behavior of rock salt may change and present distinct failure characteristics under different stress states,which affects the performance of salt cavern during the time period of full *** reproduce a similar loading condition on the cavern surrounding rock mass,the cyclic triaxial loading/unloading tests are performed on the rock salt to explore the mechanical transition behavior and failure characteristics under different *** results show that the rock salt samples pre-sent a diffused shear failure band with significant bulges at certain locations in low confining pressure conditions(e.g.5 MPa,10 MPa and 15 MPa),which is closely related to crystal misorientation and grain boundary *** the elevated confinement(e.g.20 MPa,30 MPa and 40 MPa),the dilation band dominates the failure mechanism,where the large-size halite crystals are crushed to be smaller size and new pores are *** failure transition mechanism revealed in the paper provides additional insight into the mechanical performance of salt caverns influenced by complicated stress states.

An empirical method for joint inversion of wave and wind parameters based on SAR and wave spectrometer data

Synthetic aperture radar(SAR)and wave spectrometers,crucial in microwave remote sensing,play an essential role in monitoring sea surface wind and wave ***,they face inherent limitations in observing sea surface *** systems,for instance,are hindered by an azimuth cut-off phenomenon in sea surface wind field *** spectrometers,while unaffected by the azimuth cutoff phenomenon,struggle with low azimuth resolution,impacting the capture of detailed wave and wind field *** study utilizes SAR and surface wave investigation and monitoring(SWIM)data to initially extract key feature parameters,which are then prioritized using the extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)*** research further addresses feature collinearity through a combined analysis of feature importance and correlation,leading to the development of an inversion model for wave and wind parameters based on XGBoost.A comparative analysis of this model with ERA5 reanalysis and buoy data for of significant wave height,mean wave period,wind direction,and wind speed reveals root mean square errors of 0.212 m,0.525 s,27.446°,and 1.092 m/s,compared to 0.314 m,0.888 s,27.698°,and 1.315 m/s from buoy data,*** results demonstrate the model’s effective retrieval of wave and wind ***,the model,incorporating altimeter and scatterometer data,is evaluated against SAR/SWIM single and dual payload inversion methods across different wind *** comparison highlights the model’s superior inversion accuracy over other methods.

Modeling displacement flow inside a full-length casing string for well cementing

While computer modeling of annular displacement efficiency is widely applied in cementing engineering,modeling the displacement flow inside a casing or drill string for cementing operations has received less *** predicting displacement efficiency inside a full-length pipe is desired by cementing engineers,the attempt of developing a model with both efficiency and accuracy faces *** to computer simulators for this purpose is *** with annular flow,the displacement flow inside pipe,although within a simpler geometry and without eccentricity effect,is not simpler in physics,modelling strategy and predictability,because a variety of flow patterns and flow instabilities can develop to create complicated fluid *** this paper,we present an integrated numerical model developed to simulate displacement flows inside a full-length pipe,which connects an existing annulus model to enable complete displacement simulations of cementing *** model uses three-dimensional grid to solve fluid concentrations with degrees of mixing,and incorporates flow instability detection and flow regime *** in cementing,the model accounts for effects of pumping rate,well inclination,pipe rotation,fluid densities,rheological parameters and *** computationally efficient model does not rely on high-resolution mesh as often required by conventional Computational Fluid Dynamics models,thus it is suitable to be implemented in a cementing software for daily use by well cementing *** methodology of the model is discussed in detail in this *** validate the model,we examine simulation results against experimental results obtained in our laboratory tests and CFD simulations;acceptable agreement is found under different testing *** also presented two case studies of real cementing jobs with cement evaluation logs compared to simulation results,showing that the model can predict consistent displacement efficie
