Three-dimensional mapping and comparative analysis of the distal human corpus cavernosum and the inflatable penile prosthesis

The intricate anatomy of the corpus cavernosum in both the flaccid and tumescent state has not been fully elucidated. We report our experience using a three-dimensional （3D） scanner to reconstruct cadaveric casts and compare them with 3D images of two prototypes of penile prosthesis. Two different models of the Titan Coloplast inflatable penile prosthesis were analyzed using a 3D scanner. The first was the standard model and the second was a newer model with a rounder silicone tip. Two cadaveric phalluses were harvested using Smooth-Cast 300Q polyurethane molding. The molds were excised and scanned along side the penile prosthesis. 3D scans were completed and analyzed using Leios Mesh software, and GOM Inspect software. The 3D scans demonstrated the mean human corporal radii 2 mm from the distal tip to be 36.51 mm （36.01-37.0 mm）, which is an obtuse angle. The standard Titan penile prosthesis spherical radius at the same level was 202.52 mm, while the new silicone tip prosthesis had a radius of 139.33 mm. 3D mapping further demonstrated the trajectory of the cavernosa appeared curvilinear and the distal ends appeared blunt. The use of cadaveric cavernosal molds in combination with the 3D scanner allowed us to accurately image the corpus cavernosum for the first time. Our findings suggest that anatomically accurate corporal tips appear to be relatively blunt and that the new Titan silicone tip penile prosthesis more closely resembles the human corporal tip.

Phospholipids are a major kind of lipids in rice grains and have fundamental nutritional andfunctional benefits to the plant. Their lyso forms （lysophospholipids, LPLs） often form inclusion complexeswith amylose or independently influence the physicochemical and functional properties of rice ***, the genetic basis for LPL synthesis in rice endosperm is largely unknown. Here, we performeda preliminary association test of 13 LPL compositions among 20 rice accessions, and identified 22putative main-effect quantitative trait loci responsible for all LPLs except for LPC14：0 and LPe14：0. Fivederived cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences and one insertion/deletion marker for threeLPL-synthesis-related candidate genes were developed. Association analysis revealed two markerssignificantly associated with starch LPL traits. These results provide an insight into the genetic basis ofphospholipid biosynthesis in rice and may contribute to the rice quality breeding programs usingfunctional markers.

Combinatorial Performance Mapping of Near-NMC111 Li-ion Cathodes

A combinatorial library of twenty-three,phase pure,near-NMC111(LiNi_(0.33) Mn_(0.33)Co_(0,33)O_(2))composi-tions were synthesised and their electrochemical performance,was mapped(in lithium ion half-cells).each of the 23 compositions was made in series,using a two-step process of 1)a rapid initial contin-uous hydrothermal precipitation,followed by 2)solid state *** 23 lithiated NMC samples were then subjected to analytical methods including electron microscopy(selected samples),Powder X-ray Diffraction and electrochemical tests in half cell Li-ion configurations versus Li metal.A sample with a Ni:Mn:Co(NMC)ratio of 39:28:33,revealed a specific capacity of 150 mA h g^(-1) at a C/20 rate,which was 63 and 43% greater capacity than NMC111 and NMC433 samples produced in this work,*** sample with NMC ratio 47:25:28,showed the best capacity retention characteristics,retaining 70%of its C/20 capacity at 1C,after 40 *** analysis of all the samples by cyclic voltammetry and elec-trochemical impedance spectroscopy,allowed compositional mapping of diffusion ***,the mapping data revealed a gradual change of properties across compositional space,which has vali-dated our combinatorial approach and allowed identification of the optimum performing near-NMC111 cathode materials.

Optimal decentralized control of large scale systems

This paper presents a new optimized decentralized controller design method for solving the tracking and disturbance rejection problems for large-scale linear time-invariant systems, using only low-order decentralized controllers. To illustrate the type of results which can be obtained using the new optimized decentralized control design method, the control of a large flexible space structure is studied and compared with the standard centralized LQR-observer controller. The order of the resultant decentralized controller is much smaller than that of the standard centralized LQR-observer controller. The proposed controller also has certain fail-safe properties and, in addition, it can be five orders of magnitude more robust than the standard LQR-observer controller based on their real stability radii. The new decentralized controller design method is applied to a large flexible space structure system with 5 inputs and 5 outputs and of order 24.

Helium droplet assisted synthesis of plasmonic Ag@ZnO core@shell nanoparticles

Plasmonic Ag@ZnO core@shell nanoparticles are formed by synthesis inside helium droplets with subsequent deposition and controlled *** particle size and shape can be controlled from spherical sub-10 nm particles to larger elongated *** advantage of the method is the complete absence of solvents,precursors,and other chemical *** obtained particle morphology and elemental composition have been analyzed by scanning transmission electron microscopy(STeM)and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(eDS).The results reveal that the produced particles form a closed and homogeneous ZnO layer around a 2–3 nm Ag core with a uniform thickness of(1.33±0.15)nm and(1.63±0.31)nm for spherical and wire-like particles,*** results are supported by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy(UPS),which indicates a fully oxidized shell layer for the particles studied by *** plasmonic properties of the produced spherical Ag@ZnO core@shell particles are investigated by two-photon photoelectron(2PPe)*** excitation of the localized surface plasmon resonance in Ag at around 3 eV,plasmonic enhancement leads to the liberation of electrons with high kinetic *** is observed for both Ag and Ag@ZnO particles,showing that even if a Ag cluster is covered by the ZnO layer,a plasmonic enhancement can be observed by photoelectron spectroscopy.

Fungal contamination of stored automobile-fuels in a tropical environment

Because of the lack of reports, the base levels of microbial contamination on stored fuels are unknown in tropical regions and it is unclear whether these levels have some influence on fuel quality parameters. Therefore, fungal quality in automobile fuels stored across Costa Rican territory was evaluated during two years according to the standard ASTM D6974-04. For a total of 96 samples, counts and identification of molds and yeasts were performed on regular gas, premium gas and diesel taken from the bottom and superior part of the container tanks. The highest contamination was found on the bottom of the tanks, where an aqueous phase was usually identified, showing populations over the ones present in the hydrocarbon itself （up to 108 CFU/L）. Diesel was the most contaminated fuel （up to 107 CFO/L）; however, an alteration on the physicochemical parameters was not observed in any kind of fuel. Seventy-five mold strains were isolated, Penicillium sp. being the most common genus （45.8% of the samples）, and ten yeast strains, from the genera Candida sp. and Rhodotorula sp. Four of the yeasts were able to grow on diesel as the sole carbon source, at concentrations ranging from 0.5% to 25%. Increasing the frequency of tank cleaning, adding antimicrobial agents and monitoring microbial populations are recommended strategies to improve microbial quality of stored fuels.

Adsorptive removal of resorcinol on a novel ordered mesoporous carbon(OMC) employing COK-19 silica scaffold:Kinetics and equilibrium study

Phenolic compounds and their derivatives have been found in industrial wastewater, which pose threats to the natural environment. Ordered mesoporous carbon(OMC) has been identified as an ideal adsorbent possessing high specific surface area and large pore volume to alleviate these pollutants. A novel ordered mesoporous carbon was prepared using COK-19 template with the cubic Fm3 m structure for the first time. Ordered mesoporous silica COK-19 was synthesized and reported in 2015. Sucrose as the carbon precursor was impregnated into the mesopores of silica and converted to carbon through carbonization process using sulfuric acid as a catalyst. Ordered mesoporous carbon was obtained after the removal of silica framework using hydrofluoric acid. Boric acid was employed for the preparation of OMCs with tunable pore sizes in the range of 6.9–16.6 nm. Several characterization techniques such as nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms, transmission electron microscope(TeM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Boehm titration and elemental analysis were employed to characterize the OMCs. The pore size analysis and TeM images confirmed that OMC has replicated the mesostructure of the COK-19. Results obtained from adsorption kinetics and isotherms suggest that the Pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm well described the experimental data.
