Simulated rainfall in Brazil:An alternative for assesment of soil surface processes and an opportunity for technological development

Rainfall simulators(RS)have been used,above all,to evaluate hydrological processes related to soil water infiltration,surface runoff and soil *** allow repeatability of rain application with different precipitation intensities in field and/or laboratory conditions and should produce events with physical characteristics similar to natural *** this manuscript,we carried out a bibliometric and scientometric analysis of studies with simulated rainfall in Brazil to assess the temporal evolution of publications,the main topics addressed and the degree of technological development of the *** searched for the terms“rainfall simulator”OR“simulated rainfall”AND“Brazil”in the Scopus,Web of Science,SciELO and Google Scholar *** found 143 articles published in the last 37 years(1985-2022).Our findings indicate that the main research areas covered in papers are soil erosion(57.34%),soil water infiltration(24.47%),nutrient losses(9.8%)and RS development and calibration/assessment(8.39%).In recent years,the number of published papers in international high-impact factor journals has *** of the papers(49.65%)refer to studies carried out by institutions located in the south and southeast regions of ***,there is a large gap of studies on simulated rainfall in other regions of Brazil,where important biomes such as the Cerrado,Amazon,Caatinga,and their transitions are *** study informs research priorities on soil erosion under simulated rainfall and provides a bibliographic database that can assist in more detailed future analyses.

Land use change and occupation have led to modifications in the environment causing loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services throughout the *** environments with high economic relevance,such as the ferruginous campo rupestre(rupestrian grassland known as Canga in Brazil),are even more susceptible to severe impacts due to their extreme habitat conditions and low *** determination of reference ecosystems based on the intrinsic characteristics of the ecosystem is essential for conservation as well as to the implementation of ecological *** proposed the reference ecosystem of the three main types of habitats of the ferruginous campo rupestre based on their floristic *** described the floristic composition of each habitat and evaluated the physicochemical properties of the soils and the relationship between plants and *** three habitats showed high diversity of plant species and many endemic species,such as Chamaecrista choriophylla,Cuphea pseudovaccinium,Lychnophora pinaster,and Vellozia *** distribution of vegetation was strongly related with the edaphic characteristics,with a set of species more adapted to high concentration of base saturation,fine sand,organic carbon,and iron,while another set of species succeeded in more acidic soils with higher S and silt *** provide support for the contention that the ferruginous campo rupestre is a mosaic of different habitats shaped by intrinsic local *** to recognize the floristic composition of each particular habitat can lead to inappropriate restoration,increased habitat homogenization and increased loss of biodiversity and ecosystem *** study also advances the knowledge base for building the reference ecosystem for the different types of ferruginous campo rupestre habitats,as well as a key database for highlighting those species contribute most to community assembly in this diverse and threatened tropical mountain ecosystem.

The Performance of the School Psychologist in Schools for the Inclusion of Autistic Students in the Scenario of COVID-19

During COVID-19,the repercussions on scholar dynamics,functioning and structure were inevitable,causing an impact on groups that,historically,are minority in relation to the scope of school inclusion policies,such as students diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder(ASD).This scenario is followed by educational phenomena in the face of which School Psychology has collaborated with the advancement of research and knowledge *** qualitative study,based on Historical-Cultural Psychology and Critical School Psychology,analyzed the role of the school psychologist in monitoring students diagnosed with ASD in the context of regular school during the *** following procedures were conducted:application of an online questionnaire;and semi-structured interviews with four school *** a result,three zones of shared meanings were built:the claim for the right to education with support and adaptations;the psychologist as the great savior of inclusion;the non-total inclusion that denounces the structure of injustice by *** information suggests that professional performance was hampered by different obstacles in the pandemic,such as the difficulty imposed by school,overload of demands,and impasses in the implementation of inclusion historically experienced at school,revealing that the school structure still carries historical consequences of *** shared meanings have demanded a professional performance with more effort,resistance,and strategies that accept the demands of school inclusion,providing collective mobilization,together with school actors,capable of breaking down barriers,especially those related to capacitist concepts.

Efficiency in Teaching Speaker and Listener Repertoires:Comparing Three Instructional Sequences in Autistic Children

Previous studies have investigated the efficiency in teaching listener and speaker repertoires in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder(ASD).Some investigations focused on listener responding by function,feature,and class(LRFFC)and intraverbal by function,feature,and class(FFC).For some children,teaching intraverbal FFC was more efficient because it resulted in a better emergence effect of a related untaught repertoire(LRFFC).For other children,teaching LRFFC along with tacting pictures was more efficient,resulting in a better emergence effect of a related untaught repertoire(intraverbal FFC).In these cases,it is not clear whether the tact increased the efficiency of LRFFC training because a comparison with a condition in which tacts were not required was not *** investigation consisted of a replication with two children diagnosed with *** instructional sequences were compared:teaching LRFFC-probing intraverbal;teaching LRFFC+tacts-probing intraverbal;teaching intraverbal-probing *** a child,all sequences were equally efficient because all related untaught repertoires emerged without ***,the acquisition of intraverbals during training occurred with *** the case of the second child,the most efficient sequence consisted of teaching intraverbals,resulting in the emergence of LRFFC without *** both cases of teaching LRFFC,the emergence of related intraverbals was partial and acquisition of the trained repertoires occurred with *** case that did not demand tact responses was slightly more *** were discussed in the sense that the best instructional sequence may vary from learner to learner.

Mitochondrial disorders are phenotypically varied, with serious clinical repercussions. Among them, there is the deficiency of combined oxidative phosphorylation of type 20, which occurs due to a defect in the VARS2 gene. This article presents a case of a 2-year-old female with progressive myoclonic epilepsy and psychomotor regression, with refractoriness to multiple anticonvulsants. The diagnosis was only made after the examination was carried out. Therefore, this article highlights the aspects of this rare disease and the importance of the exome for the diagnosis of rare conditions.

Introduction: At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a drop in the number of patients treated for cardiac emergencies raised concern about cardiovascular mortality in that period. An increase in care delay for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) may have affected clinical outcomes. Objectives: To analyze delay times and clinical outcomes of patients with STEMI undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI), before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Retrospective observational study that included patients with STEMI undergoing PPCI from december 2018 to July 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic cases were divided into two groups: pandemic I—from March to August 2020;and pandemic II—from September 2020 to July 2021. Patients were compared according to the period of hospitalization. Primary outcomes were delay times in assistance and clinical outcomes (acute kidney injury [AKI], post-procedural vascular complications and in-hospital mortality). Results: 108 patients were included, 39 (36.1%) in the pre-pandemic period, 13 (12.1%) in pandemic I and 56 (51.8%) in pandemic II. Time from onset of symptoms to arrival at the service and door-to-balloon time did not differ significantly among groups. Vascular complications were more frequent during the pandemic (I and II) than in the pre-pandemic period (2.5% pre-pandemic vs 15.4% pandemic vs 12.5% pandemic II;p = 0.03). AKI incidence was similar in all three periods. There was a non-significant increase in in-hospital mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: In patients with STEMI, there was an increase in vascular complications and a trend toward increased mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic. delay times to admission and reperfusion did not differ significantly between before and during the pandemic.

A significant portion of Landslide Early Warning Systems (LEWS) relies on the definition of operational thresholds and the monitoring of cumulative rainfall for alert issuance. These thresholds can be obtained in various ways, but most often they are based on previous landslide data. This approach introduces several limitations. For instance, there is a requirement for the location to have been previously monitored in some way to have this type of information recorded. Another significant limitation is the need for information regarding the location and timing of incidents. despite the current ease of obtaining location information (GPS, drone images, etc.), the timing of the event remains challenging to ascertain for a considerable portion of landslide data. Concerning rainfall monitoring, there are multiple ways to consider it, for instance, examining accumulations over various intervals (1 h, 6 h, 24 h, 72 h), as well as in the calculation of effective rainfall, which represents the precipitation that actually infiltrates the soil. However, in the vast majority of cases, both the thresholds and the rain monitoring approach are defined manually and subjectively, relying on the operators’ experience. This makes the process labor-intensive and time-consuming, hindering the establishment of a truly standardized and rapidly scalable methodology on a large scale. In this work, we propose a Landslides Early Warning System (LEWS) based on the concept of rainfall half-life and the determination of thresholds using Cluster Analysis and data inversion. The system is designed to be applied in extensive monitoring networks, such as the one utilized by Cemaden, Brazil’s National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters.

Duration and intensity of rainfall events with the same erosivity change sediment yield and runoff rates

The effect of different rainfall patterns on surface runoff,infiltration and thus soil losses and sediment concentrations are still in the focus of current *** most simulated rainfall experiments,pre-cipitation is applied at a fixed intensity for a fixed ***,the impact of rainfall patterns on soil erosion processes may be different varying the rainfall duration and intensity that produces an event with similar rainfall erosivity ***-five rainfall events were applied on micro-scale runoff plots in a soil covered with corn straw to evaluate the sediment yield and runoff *** different rainfall types were composed by association of duration(Dur)and intensity(IP)with the same erosivity *** Dur varied from 38 to 106 min and the IP varied from 75.0 to 44.6 mm h^(-1).The sediment yield varied from 1.89±1.26 g m^(-2) to 4.02±2.66 g m^(-2) and runoff ranged from 16.9±8.74 mm to 32.63±10.67 mm with highest rates occurring with high intensity and low *** highest rainfall intensity provides the maximum sediment yield(0.138 g m^(-2) min^(-1))and runoff rates(0.87 mm min^(-1)).The time to start surface runoff varied from 14 to 19.2 min and it was longer in treatments with longer durations and low precipitation *** difference was found in the amount of sediments applying rain with the same erosivity and different associations of duration and ***,the intensity and duration of the rain,with the same erosivity,altered the amount and time of *** rainfall experiments with con-stant intensity and fixed time,the erosion rates depend on the duration of the applied ***,the results of this study can contribute to the development of new perspectives in the design of water erosion experiments with simulated rain considering the duration,intensity and also the association of these variables to produce rainfall that delivery the same soil erosion capacity.

Applying constant precipitation intensity,which does not occur in natural events,is one of the main limitations concerning rainfall simulators in soil erosion *** present work evaluated the InfiAsper rainfall simulator operating with a new control panel to program rainfalls with different precipitation intensities(PI).Infiltration rates and soil and water losses were evaluated in a Distrophic Acrisol(clay loam texture)with simulated rainfalls of 30 mm and duration of 40 min,considering advanced(AD),intermediate(IN),delayed(de),and inverted intermediate(II)patterns,all with PI peaks of 110 mm h^(-1),and a constant(CT)*** experimental design was in randomized blocks with five treatments(rainfall patterns)and experimental units measuring 2.5×2.5 *** simulator worked satisfactorily,applying the rainfall according to the preconfigured *** simulated rainfall with the CT and II patterns did not promote runoff nor soil *** and runoff rates varied according to the applied rainfall pattern,reaching 97.8 and 27.3 mm h^(-1)(AD),82.1 and 39.5 mm h^(-1)(IN),and 76.2 and 49.7 mm h^(-1)(de),*** loss and surface runoff totaled each 4.77 g m^(-2)and 3.9 mm(AD),6.70 g m^(-2)and 6.8 mm(IN),and 6.03 g m^(-2)and 7.0 mm(de).The InfiAsper simulator modified enables varying precipitation intensity besides obtaining satisfactory results in the field and information consistent with the expected characteristics of natural rainfall *** the intermediate and delayed rainfall patterns,soil and water losses are higher than in the advanced.

Caatinga is a typical biome of Brazil's semiarid regions and subject to climate *** is needed on the relation of its features to climate *** study analyzed the infl uence of rainfall and its irregularities in open and dense woody Caatinga *** curves were generated by means of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI)time profiles in the Grota do Angico Conservation Unit study area in Sergipe *** data from 2000 to 2018 were collected and phenological curves generated using various estimate methods that produced the following variables:[start of season,end of season,peak of season position,length of season,mean growing season and maximum seasonal].Rainfall showed a standard intra-annual behavior,with inter-annual variations related to irregularities infl uencing Caatinga *** Caatinga vegetation had higher values of NDVI in all periods,even in anomalous years compared to open Caatinga,in addition to having longer leaf coverage over the year,with an anticipated start and a more extended seasonal *** analysis of the rainfall regime made it possible to assess its infl uence on the Caatinga and phenological profiles proved to be fundamental to understand periods of physiological change of open and dense *** results indicate that dense Caatinga maintains physiological activity longer,which may be associated with greater moisture maintenance in a semiarid *** addition,because it has a greater leaf cover for longer periods,the soil may be preserved and maintain its characteristics longer,reducing the effects of *** results may be associated with the type of forest management and conservation in this *** total or partial suppression of individual remnants of Caatinga should be avoided,since the most open areas have lower photosynthetic capacity,affected to a considerable extent from the effects of adverse climatic ***,open Caatinga has a reduced cap
