clinical features and long-term outcomes of patients with colonic oligopolyposis of unknown etiology

BAcKGROUND colonic adenomatous polyposis of unknown etiology(cPUE)is an adenomatous polyposis phenotype that resembles Familial Adenomatous Polyposis(FAP)even though no germline pathogenic variant is *** We sought to better characterize the clinical features and outcomes in a cohort of cPUE *** This is a retrospective case series of patients 18 years old or older with adenomatous oligopolyposis(between 10-100 adenomas)and negative genetic testing,identified through the Hereditary Gastrointestinal cancer Database at Massachusetts General Hospital,a tertiary academic referral center.A retrospective chart review was performed with a focus on demographics,alcohol and tobacco use,medication use,familial malignancy and polyp burden,genetic testing information,endoscopic surveillance data including the corresponding histopathology,colonic and extracolonic malignancies,mortality events,and their *** correlation and Pearson chi-square test(or Fisher's exact test)were used for continuous and categorical variables *** cPUE patients were primarily male(69%)and presented for genetic counseling at 63.7 *** 2 patients(2.9%)reported a first-degree relative with *** an average surveillance period of 12.3 years,0.5 colonoscopies per year were *** developed 2.3 new adenomas per year.4(5.7%)were diagnosed with colorectal cancer(cRc)at a mean age of 66 years,and 3 were diagnosed prior to the onset of oligopolyposis.7(10%)required colectomy due to advanced dysplasia or polyp *** respect to upper gastrointestinal manifestations,1 patient had a gastric adenoma,but there were no cases of gastric or small bowel *** surveillance,10(14%)patients died at a mean age of 72,and none were due to *** cPUE is distinct from familial adenomatous polyposis(FAP)syndrome and the use of FAP surveillance guidelines may result in unnecessarily frequent upper and lower endoscopies.

Wafer-Scale Ag₂S-Based Memristive crossbar Arrays with Ultra-Low Switching-Energies Reaching Biological Synapses

Memristive crossbar arrays (McAs) offer parallel data storage and processing for energy-efficient neuromorphic computing. However, most wafer-scale McAs that are compatible with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (cMOS) technology still suffer from substantially larger energy consumption than biological synapses, due to the slow kinetics of forming conductive paths inside the memristive units. Here we report wafer-scale Ag2S-based McAs realized using cMOS-compatible processes at temperatures below 160 degrees c. Ag2S electrolytes supply highly mobile Ag+ ions, and provide the Ag/Ag2S interface with low silver nucleation barrier to form silver filaments at low energy costs. By further enhancing Ag+ migration in Ag2S electrolytes via microstructure modulation, the integrated memristors exhibit a record low threshold of approximately - 0.1 V, and demonstrate ultra-low switching-energies reaching femtojoule values as observed in biological synapses. The low-temperature process also enables McA integration on polyimide substrates for applications in flexible electronics. Moreover, the intrinsic nonidealities of the memristive units for deep learning can be compensated by employing an advanced training algorithm. An impressive accuracy of 92.6% in image recognition simulations is demonstrated with the McAs after the compensation. The demonstrated McAs provide a promising device option for neuromorphic computing with ultra-high energy-efficiency.

Two-terminal(2-T)perovskite(PVK)/cuIn(Ga)Se_(2)(cIGS)tandem solar cells(TScs)have been considered as an ideal tandem cell because of their best bandgap matching regarding to Shockley–Queisser(S–Q)***,the nature of the irregular rough morphology of commercial cIGS prevents people from improving tandem device *** this paper,D-homoserine lactone hydrochloride is proven to improve coverage of PVK materials on irregular rough cIGS surfaces and also passivate bulk defects by modulating the growth of PVK *** addition,the minority carriers near the PVK/c60 interface and the incompletely passivated trap states caused interface recombination.A surface reconstruction with 2-thiopheneethylammonium iodide and N,N-dimethylformamide assisted passivates the defect sites located at the surface and grain ***,LiF is used to create this field effect,repelling hole carriers away from the PVK and c60 interface and thus reducing *** a result,a 2-T PVK/cIGS tandem yielded a power conversion efficiency of 24.6%(0.16 cm^(2)),one of the highest results for 2-T PVK/cIGS TScs to our *** validation underscores the potential of our methodology in achieving superior performance in PVK/cIGS tandem solar cells.

Demand response has been recognized as a valuable functionality of power systems for mitigating power *** paper proposes a hierarchical control strategy among the distribution system operator(DSO),load aggregators(LAs),and thermostatically controlled loads(TcLs);the strategy includes a scheduling layer and an executive layer to provide load *** the scheduling layer,the DSO(leader)offers compensation price(cP)strategies,and the LAs(followers)respond to cP strategies with available regulation power(ARP)*** of the DSO and LAs are modeled according to their behaviors during the load regulation *** game is adopted to capture interactions among the players and leader and to obtain the optimal strategy for each participant to achieve ***,considering inevitable random factors in practice,e.g.,renewable generation and behavior of users,two different stochastic models based on sample average approximation(SAA)and parameter modification are formulated with improved scheduling *** the executive layer,distributed TcLs are triggered based on strategies determined in the scheduling layer.A self-triggering method that does not violate user privacy is presented,where TcLs receive external signals from the LA and independently determine whether to alter their operation *** simulations are performed on the modified IEEE-24 bus system to verify effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

The extraction of nuclear matter properties from measured nuclear masses is investigated in the energy density functional formalism of *** is shown that the volume energy a1 and the nuclear incompressibility Ko depend essentially on μnN -+- pZ - 2EN,whereas the symmetry energy J and the density symmetry coefficient L as well as symmetry incompressibility Ks depend essentially on μn - μp,where μp ＝μp - Ec/ Z,μn and μp are the neutron and proton chemical potentials respectively,EN the nuclear energy,and Ec the coulomb *** obtained symmetry energy is J ＝ 28.5 MeV,while other coefficients are uncertain within ranges depending on the model of nuclear equation of state.

Efects of solution chemistry on arsenic(V) removal by low-cost adsorbents

Natural and anthropogenic arsenic （As） contamination of water sources pose serious health concerns, especially for small communities in rural areas. This study assessed the applicability of three industrial byproducts （coal fly ash, lignite, and green waste compost） as the low-cost adsorbents for As（V） removal under various field-relevant conditions （dissolved oxygen, As（V）/Fe ratio, solution pH, and presence of competing species）. The physico-chemical properties of the adsorbents were characterized by XRD, XRF, FT-IR, and NMR analysis. Batch experiments demonstrated that coal fly ash could provide effective As（V） removal （82.1%-95%） because it contained high content of amorphous iron/aluminium hydroxides for As（V） adsorption and dissolvable calcium minerals for calcium arsenate precipitation. However, the addition of lignite and green waste compost was found unfavourable since they hindered the As（V） removal by 10%-42% possibly due to dissolution of organic matter and ternary arsenate-iron-organic matter complexes. On the other hand, higher concentrations of dissolved iron （comparing As（V）/Fe ratios of 1：1 and 1：10） and dissolved oxygen （comparing 0.2 and 6 mg/L） only marginally enhanced the As（V） removal at pH 6 and 8. Thus, addition of dissolved iron, water aeration, or pH adjustment became unnecessary because coal fly ash was able to provide effective As（V） removal under the natural range of geochemical conditions. Moreover, the presence of low levels of background competing （0.8 or 8 mg/L of humic acid, phosphate, and silicate） imposed little influence on As（V） removal, possibly because the high adsorption capacity of coal fly ash was far from exhaustion. These results suggested that coal fly ash was a potentially promising adsorbent that warranted further investigation.

This paper proposes a dynamic-decision-based realtime dispatch method to coordinate the economic objective with multiple types of security dispatch objectives while reducing constraint violations in the process of adjusting the system operation point to the *** each decision moment,the following tasks are executed in turn:①locally linearizing the system model at the current operation point with the online model identification by using measurements;②narrowing down the gaps between unsatisfied security requirements and their security thresholds in order of priority;③minimizing the generation cost;④minimizing the security indicators within their security *** with the existing real-time dispatch strategies,the proposed method can adjust the deviations caused by unpredictable power flow fluctuations,avoid dispatch bias caused by model parameter errors,and reduce the constraint violations in the dispatch decision *** effectiveness of the proposed method is verified with the IEEE 39-bus system.

Thermal properties and high-temperature ablation of high-entropy (Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) coating on graphite substrate

An entropy-stabilized multicomponent ultrahigh-temperature ceramic(UHTc)coating,(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2),on a graphite substrate was in-situ sintered by spark plasma sintering(SPs)from constituent transition metal diboride ***(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) coating had a hardness of 31.2±2.1 GPa and resisted 36.9 GPa of stress before delamination,as observed at the *** temperature-dependent thermal properties of the multicomponent diboride(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) were obtained by molecular dynamics(MD)simulations driven by a machine learning force field(MLFF)trained on density functional theory(DFT)*** thermal conductivity,density,heat capacity,and coefficient of thermal expansion obtained by the MD simulations were used in time-dependent thermal stress finite element model(FEM)*** low thermal conductivity(component diboride coupled with its similar coefficient of thermal expansion to that of graphite indicated that stresses of less than 10 GPa were generated at the interface at high temperatures,and therefore,the coating was mechanically resistant to the thermal stress induced during *** experiments at 220℃ showed that the multicomponent diboride coating was resistant to thermal stresses with no visible cracking or *** ablation mechanisms were mechanical denudation and evaporation of B_(2)O_(5) and light V-Ti oxides,which caused a decrease in the mass and thickness of the coating and resulted in mass and linear ablation rates of-0.51 mg·s^(-1) and -1.38μm·s^(-1),respectively,after 60 *** findings demonstrated the thermal and mechanical stability of multicomponent entropy-stabilized diborides as coatings for carbon materials in engineering components under extreme environments.
