Second-generation direct-acting-antiviral hepatitis C virus treatment: Efficacy, safety, and predictors of SVR12

AIM To gather data on the antiviral efficacy and safety of second generation direct acting antiviral(DAA) treatment with respect to sustained virological response(SVR) 12 wk after conclusion of treatment, and to determine predictors of SVR12 in this *** Two hundred and sixty patients treated with SOF combination partners pR(n = 51), R(n = 10), SMV(n = 30), DCV(n = 81), LDV(n = 73), or 3D(n = 15).144/260 were pre-treated, 89/260 had liver cirrhosis, 56/260 had portal hypertension with platelets postliver transplantation patients. 194/260 had HCV GT1, 44/260 HCV *** Two hundred and forty/256(93.7%) patients achieved SVR12(m ITT); 4/260 were lost to follow-up. SVR12 rates for subgroups were: 92% for SOF/DCV, 93% for each SOF/SMV, SOF/pR, 94% for SOF/LDV, 100% for 3D, 94% for pretreated, 87% for liver cirrhosis, 82% for patients with platelets post-liver transplantation, 95% for GT1 a, 93% for GT1 b, 90% for GT3, 100% for GT2, 4, and 6. 12 patients suffered from relapse, 6 prematurely discontinued treatment, of which 4 died. Negative predictors of SVR12 were a platelet count p p = 0.005) at baseline. In Interferonfree treatment GT3 had significantly lower SVR rates than GT1(p = 0.016). Side effects were mild. CONCLUSION Excellent SVR12 rates and the favorable side-effect profile of DAA-combination therapy can be well translated into "real-world". patients with advanced liver disease, signs of portal hypertension, especially with platelets patients with GT3 are in special need for further research efforts to overcome comparatively higher rates of virological failure.

Constructed wetlands(CwW)are well known nature-based systems for water *** study evaluated the efficiency and effectiveness of seven domestic wastewater treatment systems based on horizontal flow CWs in Jarabacoa,the Dominican *** results showed that the CWs were efficient in reducing the degree of contamination of wastewater to levels below the Dominican wastewater discharge standards for parameters such as the 5-day biochemical oxygen demand(BOD5)and chemical oxygen demand,but not for the removal of phosphorus and fecal *** addition,a horizontal flow subsurface wetland in the peri-urban area El Dorado was evaluated in terms of the performance of wastewater treatment in tropical climatic *** concentrations of heavy metals,such as zinc,copper,chromium,and iron,were found to decrease in the effluent of the wetland,and the concentrations for nickel and manganese tended to *** levels of heavy metals in the effluent were lower than the limit values of the Dominican wastewater discharge *** construction cost of these facilities was around 200 USD per population equivalent,similar to the cost in other countries in the same *** study suggested some solutions to the improved performance of CWs:selection of a microbial flora that guarantees the reduction of nitrates and nitrites to molecular nitrogen,use of endemic plants that bioaccumulate heavy metals,combination of constructed wetlands with filtration on activated carbon,and inclusion of water purification processes that allow to evaluate the reuse of treated water.

Computational modeling has emerged as a time-saving and cost-effective alternative to traditional animal testing for assessing chemicals for their potential ***,few computational modeling studies for immunotoxicity were reported,with few models available for predicting toxicants due to the lack of training data and the complex mechanisms of *** this study,we employed a data-driven quantitative structure–activity relationship(QSAR)modeling workflow to extensively enlarge the limited training data by revealing multiple targets involved in *** this end,a probe data set of 6,341 chemicals was obtained from a high-throughput screening(HTS)assay testing for the activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AhR)signaling pathway,a key event leading to *** this probe data set against pubChem yielded 3,183 assays with testing results for varying proportions of these 6,341 compounds.100 assays were selected to develop QSAR models based on their correlations to AhR *** individual QSAR models were built for each assay using combinations of four machine-learning algorithms and three molecular fingerprints.5-fold cross-validation of the resulting models showed good predictivity(average CCR=0.73).A total of 20 assays were further selected based on QSAR model performance,and their resulting QSAR models showed good predictivity of potential immunotoxicants from external *** study provides a computational modeling strategy that can utilize large public toxicity data sets for modeling immunotoxicity and other toxicity endpoints,which have limited training data and complicated toxicity mechanisms.

proposed agroforestry options should begin with the species that farmers are most familiar with,which would be the native multipurpose trees that have evolved under smallholder farms and socioeconomic *** African birch(Anogeissus leiocarpa(DC.)Guill.&perr.)and pink jacaranda(Stereospermum kunthianum Cham.)trees are the dominant species in the agroforestry parkland system in the drylands of Tigray,*** farmers highly value these trees for their multifunctional uses including timber,firewood,charcoal,medicine,*** trees also could improve soil ***,the amount of soil physical and chemical properties enhanced by the two species must be determined to maintain the sustainable conservation of the species in the parklands and to scale up to similar agroecological ***,we selected twelve isolated trees,six from each species that had similar dendrometric characteristics and were growing in similar environmental *** divided the canopy cover of each tree into three radial distances:mid-canopy,canopy edge,and canopy gap(control).At each distance,we took soil samples from three different *** collected 216 soil samples(half disturbed and the other half undisturbed)from each canopy position and soil *** density(BD),soil moisture content(SMC),soil organic carbon(SOC),total nitrogen(TN),available phosphorus(Ap),available potassium(AK),p H,electrical conductivity(EC),and cation exchange capacity(CEC)were *** revealed that soil physical and chemical properties significantly improved except for soil texture and EC under both species,CEC under ***,and soil p H under ***,all the studied soils were improved under both species canopy as compared with canopy ***,TN,Ap,and AK under canopy of these trees were respectively 24.1%,11.1%,55.0%,and 9.3% higher than those soils under *** two parkland agroforestry species significantly enhanced soil fertility near the canopy of top

Distortions in focusing laser pulses due to spatio-temporal couplings:an analytic description

In ultra-short laser pulses,small changes in dispersion properties before the final focusing mirror can lead to severe pulse distortions around the focus and therefore to very different pulse properties at the point of laser±matter interaction,yielding unexpected interaction *** mapping between far-and near-field laser properties intricately depends on the spatial and angular dispersion properties as well as the focal *** a focused Gaussian laser pulse under the influence of angular,spatial and group-delay dispersion,we derive analytical expressions for its pulse-front tilt,duration and width from a fully analytic expression for its electric field in the time±space domain obtained with scalar diffraction *** expression is not only valid in and near the focus but also along the entire propagation distance from the focusing mirror to the *** relating angular,spatial and group-delay dispersion before focusing at an off-axis parabola,where they are well measurable,to the respective values in the pulse’s focus are obtained by a ray tracing ***,these formulas are used to show in example setups that the pulse-front tilts of lasers with small initial dispersion can become several tens of degrees larger in the vicinity of the focus while being small directly in the *** formulas derived here provide the analytical foundation for observations previously made in numerical *** numerically simulating Gaussian pulse propagation and measuring properties of the pulse at distances several Rayleigh lengths off the focus,we verify the analytic expressions.

Natural resources represent the base of our living and the entire economic *** depletion is a major challenge for the economic development of both developed and developing *** effi-cient use is an indispensable requirement and must be the aim of the public policies designed by the authorities *** this research,we have investigated the impact of the natural resources rent on the economic growth in some major wealthy economies of the world(p5+1 countries namely:US,UK,France,China,Russia,and Germany).We have applied a quantile-on-quantile regression to analyse this impact on different quantiles and a cross-sectional autoregressive distributed lag(CS-ARDL)approach for the panel of these six *** Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality test was also used to check the causality between natural resource rents and economic growth in these *** show a negative relationship between natural resources rent and economic growth for the panel but a different impact on quantiles in each *** for China and the US,a positive effect can be noticed for both lower and higher quantiles of natural resources and economic *** Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality test shows that natural resources can predict economic growth only in China,the U.S.,and the *** contrast,no causality was found for the other four countries included in the *** suggest that nations invest in wind and solar projects,use biofuels and nuclear energy,introduce a temporary profit tax to protect consumers from escalating energy prices,and increase energy efficiency in buildings and *** would benefit from a regulatory framework that is uniform and exhaustive,as well as easier to traverse and more receptive to innovation and ***-private partnership investments in innovation,innovation incentives,and environmental sector opportunities may foster long-term economic growth。
